Video of Left Deck Dropout Issue on Dell/Nvidia 8600GT

D-Twizzle 7:10 AM 25 January 2008
I made a quick video of the issue I'm having.
Right video deck works perfectly.
Left deck has video dropouts, random black screen flashes.
In the video I'm playing a blend of 50 Cent's Ayo Technology.
Right deck has Flo-Rida's "Low" beat.
Left deck has Rihanna's "SOS" beat.
Video buffer at 2GB
Video quality at 4/5 (medium-high)
Dell Vostro 1700
2ghz Core 2 Duo
4GB Ram
256MB 8600m GT
2 Internal hard drives, videos on dedicated SATA HD.
Very light install of Win XP Pro w/ most services turned off.
www.youtube.com view
if you look closely in the video, you can see the crossfader go back and forth between the 2 videos and the middle monitor or my external monitor you will see the video dropouts or just a black/blank screen.

sorry for the bad quality video, my studio is really dark.
DJ Grandpa 11:50 AM 25 January 2008
Twizzle, what happes if you lower the Video buffer? On my Mac I have it @ 400-500, and works fine I have same settings on quality.
kwestyon 3:26 PM 25 January 2008
D-Twizzle that is what is happenning to me. I'm sorry it's happenning to you but, I'm glad I'm not the only one going crazy. Only differents is my black outs last a little longer, a flash to a couple seconds.

Here are my details: scratchlive.net
D-Twizzle 5:35 PM 25 January 2008
i'll try lowering the buffer. i know that between 1-2gb, i didn't really see a difference. i figured the higher the better.

i didn't have this problem with the demo, but i didn't have the full screen option
either.
DJ Grandpa 6:22 PM 25 January 2008
Twizzle, I asked before on buffersize, see aswer here: www.scratchlive.net
Nathan H 11:21 PM 25 January 2008
Thanks for the video D-Twizzle, that is a really screwed up bug, epecially as there is *no* difference between the 2 decks in the code. I'll investigate it more when I get to work again :-)

is there any update on this problem? i'm having the same problem. i'm using a pc with a 8600 video card
skinnyguy 8:45 PM 17 February 2008
wow. that looks like the same probs i have with my dell inspiron 6400.

my specs are:
xp home
2.0 core 2 duo
2 gb ram
intel vid card (can't remember which specific one)
videos via usb powered external

i always figured it would be either because of my vid card (which has NO restrictions) or because of my external. hmm...
DJ Mad Matt 9:05 PM 17 February 2008
All you guys that are having this problem ... Is it always the left side?
skinnyguy 10:03 PM 17 February 2008
mine is on the left deck as well.
skinnyguy 10:10 PM 17 February 2008
hm...i'll have to double check results on my p4 lappy....
StevenWayne 11:18 PM 17 February 2008
left deck for me too. right deck is fine
DJ Mad Matt 11:31 PM 17 February 2008
If its the left side for everyone, there has to be some coding differences between the 2 sides.

I know Nathan says there isn't but, what other explanation could there be?
djpuma_gemini 6:47 AM 18 February 2008
Pc
DJ Mad Matt 7:33 AM 18 February 2008
Booooooooooooooooo ... hahahahah
DJ W 12:26 PM 18 February 2008
I have the same Problem on the right side :-/
Videos that work perfectly on the left side have dropouts on the right side.
eye357 1:47 PM 18 February 2008
Yeah Twizzle I hit u up on youtube too, I get the same problem sometimes so I just turn evrything off and unplug and hookup again I believe its when I hook up the mixer out of turn and it works. It happens as so as I turn on the system and vsl. I just restart, it's a wierd bug.
DJ Mad Matt 4:56 PM 18 February 2008
Ok ... 1 for the right side ... now they must be identical.
itchie 7:07 PM 18 February 2008
i thought the new beta fixed this? i doesn't do it to me anymore... is everyone using the new video beta?
a-swift 8:15 PM 18 February 2008
Could it be a 57 problem?
StevenWayne 8:20 PM 18 February 2008
i've tried with the beta, and the boxed version....same shit, different toilet
DJ W 8:47 PM 18 February 2008
Ill try the beta, but honestly I don't want to spin with a beta version.
StevenWayne 8:50 PM 18 February 2008
honestly W, at this point.....the pc version is a beta version, period.
DJ W 10:01 PM 18 February 2008
Well, in that case it's an expensive one :-(
a-swift 12:39 AM 19 February 2008
uh what? there is only one version of vsl i thought. the release version is the same build as the beta, or am i missing something?
StevenWayne 12:43 AM 19 February 2008
sarcasm swift. there's only two versions, the new beta one, and the older demo/boxed version. demo and boxed ones are the same thing.
nobspangle 8:07 AM 19 February 2008
a-swift, since you haven't posted in the beta forum I guess you've missed it go here => scratchlive.net to download the newest beta most of the changes are for PCs but there's a couple of things that affect the macbook pro.
skinnyguy 10:53 AM 19 February 2008
ok. so i re-tested again. both use media on usb powered external.

alienware
p4 3.6 ghz
2.5 gb ram
nvidia 6800 (i think - never really intended to do video) - some restrictions
results - plays fine on both decks. however, vid output doesn't work on extended display. it just doesn't. works fine on preview monitors, just not on output window. only shows vsl demo logo. oh, and cpu is mostly 100%. but when decks are paused, cpu goes down, sometimes to 80%....or was it 60?

dell
2.0 core 2 duo
2 gb ram
ati mobility radeon x1400 (hm..i THOUGHT it was an intel card) - NO restrictions
results - vid is choppy on BOTH decks. last time i tried it, it was choppy mainly on the left deck. at least the output window shows moving video, but it gets choppy too at times. cpu usage is 100%. even when paused or no vids are loaded.

all you other guys with vid dropout, what brand lappys u using?
DJ Grandpa 11:04 AM 19 February 2008

Could it be a 57 problem?

Simply, No. 57 is just an audiomixer with built in SSL box, and some buttons/controls that controls Serato. 57 have no dsp for video.

And both decks works just fine on my MacBook Pro. So hopfully the dev team will solv the problem in next update.
skinnyguy 10:55 AM 27 February 2008
tried it again tonight. left deck dropout only.

man i didnt even know there was a beta forum.
boabmatic 8:38 PM 1 March 2008
I'm seeing this issue too on some vids (not all) I've got a nvidia 8600M GS card.

its always the left deck that drops out when it happens.
DJ James 10:16 PM 1 March 2008
I had the same problem but then i went to the control panel for the nvidia 8600gt i change some of the global setting and now no problems
But also now i am running 2 8600GT i have no delay at All now
But check the setting that how i fixed it
i will put screen capture up so all can see
boabmatic 9:19 PM 2 March 2008
nice one ...cheers...
itchie 2:13 AM 5 March 2008
what global setting changes did you make?
boabmatic 9:57 AM 5 March 2008
I've been playing around with various nvidia control panel setting but not found what fixes it yet.

I PM'd DJ James about it but not had a reply yet.
DJ James 5:53 PM 5 March 2008
Here is my Setting

DJ James 5:54 PM 5 March 2008
Any Questions Please ask or pm
No Problem
boabmatic 8:53 PM 5 March 2008
thanks james... i'll try them out tonight..
boabmatic 10:46 AM 6 March 2008
james ...what driver version are you using? I tried your settings but I'm still getting drop-outs on the left deck.

I did notice that my control panel had extra settings that weren't on your screen caputures so guess I'm using a newer driver version.

cheers...
DJ James 2:35 PM 6 March 2008
I am using the current drivers from the nvidia web but remember i am using small Lan Box Pc It should be all same even with Laptop
boabmatic 2:51 PM 6 March 2008
cool I'm using the latest from laptopvideo2go ... i'll try downgrading to the nvidia released version.

cheers...
DJ James 2:56 PM 6 March 2008
I know laptops are easyer to carry to a gig but i went with something strong in power
Dj_KaGeN 5:18 PM 6 March 2008
those settings actually upped my CPU percentage on my sometimes less than pegged right deck.
DJ James 5:24 PM 6 March 2008
I my Pc both even with setting and no dropout runs perfect
Dj_KaGeN 5:36 PM 6 March 2008
mine ran really well for a while.... that changed expectantly. I have yet to figure out what it takes to return to that happy place.
DJ James 5:39 PM 6 March 2008
Once you do get it there in nvidia control panel you can save as profile so you will not lose your setting
StevenWayne 5:42 PM 6 March 2008
the thing is with the vsl bug, you dont have to mess with the settings, and it'll either work or not....regardless if the settins were changed or not.
Dj_KaGeN 5:43 PM 6 March 2008
I'm 2 seconds from a format/reload... LOL
I never even thought about saving those settings.
StevenWayne 5:45 PM 6 March 2008
i thought you already formatted??! do that shit already, if you're lucky, you might be cool like me and be able to get it to 98% instead of 100%!
Dj_KaGeN 5:54 PM 6 March 2008
just last night..

left deck = 100% / right deck = 84%

ya.. I'm that badass. LOL
DJ James 5:55 PM 6 March 2008
I Have never had to format will do nothing if you want drivers back to default just go to hardware manager and go to vid card and do roll back drivers
Dj_KaGeN 6:01 PM 6 March 2008
there is other 'stuff' from the manufacturer on their I can do without..
DJ Mad Matt 10:16 PM 6 March 2008
Yeah KaGeN ... Its Freshie time. Get your hands on an OEM or a developers copy of XP w/sp2. Doesnt get more stripped down than that. (no homo)(no misquote)
eye357 10:17 PM 6 March 2008
downloaded new update from vsl now i am getting mad drop outs on left deck thanks serato......update caused problems instead of fixing old ones
