after finding out that my little precious powerbook didnt get a speed bump, actually makes me happy. Here's why. I just went to sacramento last week to get this new 1.5 ghz pb, and if they would have updated them today, i would have been quite pissed. even though they come standard with the superdrive, that doesnt really phase me, since mine already is.
On another note the G5 Quad, seems out of this fuckin world. HOW DO THEY DO THAT?!!?! Which makes me wonder when they switch to intel with the G5, will they have QUAD INTEL G5?!?!?!? that would be soooo much speed, i couldnt imagine what someone would do with that much speed.
Overall, im glad i dont have to make another trip to sac to exchange, since they didnt update the PB speed.
Just lettin you guys know!

no quad intel g5: g5 is a motorola/ibm processor. there are already dual-core pentiums.

Cutrix, you might want to give that Apple store a call if you just purchased your PowerBook. The new models did not have a CPU upgrade (lame), but they have a few other upgrades you may want.
The G5 Quad is just a Dual processor with Dual-Core CPUs, so essentially 4 CPUs total.
They are switching to Intel chips because over two years ago they promised they could make a 3 GHz G5 PowerMac. IBM never made they chip (be it technical/business reasons) so they are switching to Intel.

i know all that stuff about it, i wasnt asking what the quad G5 is, i was just awing in its marvel.
The new specs on the PB are pretty much useless to me. I already have a dual layer DVDR 80 gig HD and the battery life doesnt matter, cause i always have my lappy plugged in, minus when i use WORD in class. thats about it.
but i appreciate the heads up guys!
what i really want is a GIG of ram, anyone wanna hook a fellow DJ up???

I was very surprised on the new PowerMacs, they look very interesting, although too expensive for me, I don't really need that much power. Too bad the Powerbooks didn't get a speed bump besides the other upgrades, I really wanted a faster G4, maybe a dual core G4 or something, but oh well I'll just have to wait to upgrade my iBook. I just hope there is another revision of these Powerbooks before the Intel switch... Is the current 15" Powerbook enough for producing music using for example Logic? Because with my G3 800 iBook even Reason chokes when a lot of stuff is going on...

diego my man, the 15 1.67 should work just fine. It all depends what and how heavy of music production you are going to be doing on it. As for me my 1.5 12" runs reason like a damn champ, about 50 or so virtual instruments stacked all running at one time, def update your ram if you are going to be using that type of stuff. As for Logic, my 1.5 handles multitrack recording, over beats just fine. 40 or so vocal tracks can be going on at one time, and it runs smoooooooooth.
hope that helps!~
