Anyone know about Laptop batteries?

Jay-P 10:18 AM - 17 October, 2005
Ok, I have a HP ZV5255US. My battery last for only about 1 hr. 1 yr old. Is this how it is supposed to be? The back say 4.4hrs.

I thought Lithion Ion batteries dont have a memory effect? AM I wrong. If so, any suggestions on where I can get a good deal on a new battery? and how to avoid memory loss on my laptop battery?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Its always plugged in at gigs. I even come prepared with extension cord and surge protector for my laptop and ssl in my gig bag. However, just need to know if my battery is really supposed to have a short battery life.

It all depends on how many times you've "cycled" the battery. All laptop batteries have a number of cycles that they can handle. 1 cycle is one full charge and full discharge.

Find out from the manufacturer how many cycles it can handle and if you think yours doesn't have that many cycles, then get a new one if under warranty.

Also, if it wasn't properly charged the first time it was used it could also affect its life expetancy.

also depends if u charge it when the battary is at half. That kills battary life. I think u should run the battary down to nothing. Then charge it up and see if it hold if it doesnt then u know the battary is no that good also if the lappy u have is used.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think its because I always have it plugged in. Ill get another battery and use that when im on the road and use the existing battery while I have it plugged in. Thanks again.

will u dont even need to waste the money. Just take out the battary when u playing with SSL cuz most of the time u have it plugged in anyways. Put the money to more useful thing like ram or drive space. When I had my pld IBM 1.13 battary lasted me only 45 minutes didnt bother to get a battary cuz i had it plugged in all the time
