looking to buy a 57, 2 questions.

I am an SL1 owner. I am planning on upgrading to the 57 mixer. I will keep my box for when i play at clubs with different mixers.

will there be any issues switching back and forth from the 57 and SL1?

also,

i have read a few threads about this crossfader "dip". This is a concern for me as i mix with crossfader not the volume sliders like some dj's.

yeah, yeah... i know, i know... "why dont you just mix with volume or gains?"

Im not a hiphop or house dj. i play mostly brazilian, reggae, afro-beat etc. its a different style. i keep my volumes all the way up, adjust my gains while cue'ing, then smoothly use the crossfader to mix. i dont scratch or do any cool tricks.

can someone describe better what this dip is?

every mixer ive ever played on has the controls to customize it to suit your style. It appears that the 57 has slow to fast sliders. so can i set it to just be an even curve without a dip? meaning the tune on the left doesnt decrease in volume until the fader is moved right past the 50% line and visa-versa?

i think the "dip" is a figment of people's imaginiation. i've never noticed anything like that with my 57, but my 57 also seems to be 100% perfect in every way compared to a lot of cats on here.

the fader curve on the 57 is fully customizable to any style.

Mate... that was not nice... it is not peoples imagination. Just read the documentations, they will confirm that there is a dip.

Nope. It is customizable to a lot styles, but not for all. See "dip problem".

there is no issue swithcing between the SL1 and the 57.. there is 1 driver for each and as long as you use the same usb port everytime you won't have to install the drivers more then once and it will pop up with what ever you plug in..

thanks for the replies guys. im going to try the mixer out if i can find a place to demo it. but to be honest, this will make me NOT buy the mixer if the the volume lowers in the middle of the fader.

ive never even experienced this sort of thing on any mixer. its always been my practice to lower the bass of the tune being mixed in so there is no loud blaring, i dont need a fader to do that for me, sometimes its not needed at all. right now i use a denon X1500 with zero problems, i just thought it would be nice to have a smaller mixer with serato built in. plus all the on board functions...

from my searches on the forum, it seems to me that maybe half the people like/dislike the dip. so i think that makes it a problem. im glad i didnt just run out and buy it, i would've been upset.

This only happens at the slowest crossfader curve setting.

nik39. It's good to have a guy like you on the forum aside from the moderators that knows what he's talking about. Can u point me to the "dip" chat because I'm thinking of starting a mobile business with all 57's, and I don't want to have any problems for my DJs. I need to make it as easy as possible for my jocks. Thanks.

If there is a dip, can RANE look at it and correct?

It is possible for Rane to change it in firmware, but so far they haven't seemed too interested.

And I should point out the dip isn't a mistake or a fault with the 57 it's by design.
