Worth Buying a TTM57?

djgeeth 11:17 PM - 17 January, 2008
Let me start out by saying I still consider myself a newb. I mean I know how to mix fine, and Ive worked in a club for a while, but I just got a pair of 1200's a few weeks ago and can't hardly scratch. At this point in my development Im really scared to be using my Behringer mixer, both for scratching, and because they are prone to failure.

So Im looking on upgrading and I've narrowed it to the AEM-100i and the TTM57, and these are obviously VERY different, especially in price point. Im in college and don't have tons of money laying around, but after selling serato it maybe be POSSIBLE to buy a TTM57.

Personal opinions on this? Will my skill level utilize the 57 in the next couple years or should I just get an AEM-100i and practice for a couple years THEN spend big $$?

Thanks!

what if you get a gig at a club where you can't hook up your mixer. You'll need your serato box. one step at a time. I recommend you get a 56 (used should be fine they hold up pretty damn good) for the same price as the AEM. thats my 2 cents

cosign isaac...for real.

if you're a noob don't get a 57. it's far too advanced for wavies.

I didnt mean total noob, I mean, I have a resisency (its a smallish shitty place, but still). But you all are probably right, getting the AEM-100i, thanks!

if you have the money get the 57,its better to learn on a good mixer then waste money on a cheap one to only get the better one later.

i don't disagree...i'm just a strong believer in NOT selling the SL1 for any reason whatsoever. If you're already a serato user and you want a 57 then I think you should save up whatever its gonna cost you to buy the 57 WITHOUT selling the box. Even if you've got a 57 the SL1 box is too valuable for so many reasons. NEVER SELL YOUR SL1 BOX (unless you've got more than 1). and the 56 is not cheap.

The only 2 reasons I would consider the AEM-100i (other than Ive heard great things) is the price is way cheaper, and it has some effects. How much are the outboard effects for the 56/57's FlexFX?

SL1 box is great, but there are so many wires! I might just have to make a custom case for the mixer and house the SL1 in it.

Thanks for the help guys, I think im going to spend every last cent I have and get the TTM56 and make it last. Are there any cheap effects machines for the FlexFX, maybe just an echo?

welcome to the (rane) family

I second that. Never sell your SL1. Now if Rane updates the SL1, we will all demand a rebate.

Also, the first mixer I bought was a TTM-56. Then I bought a Vestax PMC-05 used. Just for nostalgia.
