hey all - am new to digital dj'ing - gonna make the change and have a few questions
i have gone out and got a HP 1.7ghz centruino, 512RAM, 60GB etc, has itunes pre-installed
now Iv'e decided that Im going to rip everything from CD as a wav (to backup), and then convert to OGG. i have worked out how to rip from CD and seems to be working ok
does anyone know if I can convert from WAV/WMA to OGG in Itunes? i have had a play and cant seem to do....
also I cant seem to play WMA in itunes
if cant convert in i-tunes - can anyone recommend a good free download for this purpose (convert to OGG) - after reading the posts am thinking CDEX could be the way - do I need to download a LAME for this purpose?? or does Itunes cater for this...
gosh its really confusing when starting out! not as simple then hitting start on my 1200's haha
will be worth the hard yards though. cant wait to get SSL!!! want to get my files in order first
I downloaded mixmiester - far out what a mean tool that is!!!
thanks all!

Check out: scratchlive.net for a bunch of software recommendation from other users.
Don't bother transcoding WMAs to OGG vorbis, the quality loss will be terrible.
Since Scratch LIVE can't play WMAs anyway, I would try and re-source those tracks in a compatible format if I were you.

If you are not a geek, don't bother with something like Ogg.
If space is a problem, rip to MP3. It is widespread, and likely to be supported by EVERY platform/product.

ive installed CDex - but when I open it come up with this msg:
Failed to load the wnaspi32.dll driver!
Ust the "native NT SCSI library" driver option instead?
so I downloaded wnaspi32.dll which is now sitting on my desktop - now what do I do??? copy it into the cdex folder?? do i have to configure it in some way?
RE: OGG - yep Im not much of a geek but it sounds like OGG is the one - sounds like it is superior to MP3 or so the tests show - once ive sorted this shit out I'll convert some diff tracks and compare ogg/mpv/wav all turned up at 11 on my yamahas and make my mind up :) file size vs quality, OGG looks like the best compromise
then ill lock my self away for a couple of months and start ripping....aahhhh....
