what I LOVE about the 62

one of the things ive never really used on my 56 was any sort of external effects. so i was pretty skeptical when i got the 62 with all the crazy effects. but i actually got asked to dj a hipster party and they wanted like music from dr who and a bunch of crazy instrumental stuff (actual instruments, not instrumental versions of songs). i mean i mix everything, but with this stuff it was just not workable that way. some of it was super old pop stuff, but some was like completely weird. anyway the awesome selection of effects really saved me from trainwrecking right and left. i could put a filter on a track and bring in the other with out it being terribly dramatic and obvious what i was doing. same for reverb, etc. so i just wanted to say thanks, guys. one guy said "wow i love how you made it all one song". so it was weird, but without the effects it would have been kinda dicey.

good stuff. I love layering the filters with the effects like reverb and echo. surprisingly, robot is one of my favorites

That's awesome! Poor robot usually doesn't get much love. Can you describe how you're using it?

so far I haven't used it live but basically just turn it on and use the joystick to go up and down steps. usually on a vocal when I am mixing out.

Yeah I mostly use it on vocals as well. It's really fun with a mic too!
DJ Dub Cowboy

I've been meaning to try that. I think I found a bug in the robot effect too in the new firmware. I just made a bug report in the beta section.

it would be cool to have a mode where the joystick actually controls how much effect is applied dynamically instead of in steps. Then we could do little wobble pitch shifts by moving it around in a circle or back and forth.

no more like,
extreme left (or down) = -100%
extreme right (or up) = 100%
use the time knob to limit the end points. (-50% through 50% for instance)
this would be a way of moving from 0% to an extreme really fast.
so by going back and forth on the knob you can make it swing from -% to +% and then when you let go it goes back to normal.

then you could even just tap the joystick for crazy quick pitch dips.
I think this has the potential for some wobble, and we all know the wobble is huge right now!

i love robot. i use it for vocal drops or acapellas as well. ie "every day i'm shuffling" in party rock anthem. it really get's people's attention.
i'd really like another parameter on the effect to change and play around with.

I like the robot for just glitching out the sound for short bit.
Boost it up to 100% and turn it on at the end of a 16 bar phrase for the last 4 bars.
Adds a nice change up to a stagnant beat.

How are you guys layering effects? I thought we could only select one at a time?
DJ Dub Cowboy
8:42 PM - 23 May, 2012
you can layer the filters with the internal effect, but you can also layer the DJFX in Serato with the internal effects.
you can go one step further and layer an outboard effects unit with all of the above.

taking the layering to another level today.
got group 4 loop/scroll controls mapped to DJ-FX
USB insert opens DJ-FX screen

without running the DJ-FX through the USB Insert, you can layer both DJ-FX units, filters, and the internal effects on one track. 4 effects total.
even more if you use the 3 super knobs as opposed to the 1ultra knob.
This could always be done, but I find with the 62 and midi assigning the DJ-FX it makes it very usable and intuitive.

3 DJ-FX, 1 Internal Effect, HP/LP Filter plus as many effects as your external effects chain can support all at the same time. When ever I try to get that many effects rolling at the same time it ends up looking like this->youtu.be

dub that actually gave me an idea. how about serato/rane makes it when you press the USB insert efx, the on mixer effects control automatically switches over to serato effects control. right at your fingertips you could have more effects than a pioneer mixer.
Trevor- is that possible?

i know it can be midi mapped but i was having problems midi mapping the jog-stick...and it messes up the parameters for the other last used effect.
TrevorW
11:39 PM - 23 May, 2012
That's an interesting idea, willthekidd. But that would prevent DJs from being able to use the internal effects and Serato effects simultaneously. When the USB Insert button is turned off, the audio FX loop to Serato is disconnected.

i'm having no problem using the mixer effects and scratch live effects at the same time. although i only have the usb insert mapped to on/off for roll out effect.
are you suffering to the ability to change parameters for the effects?

I have each bank of the DJ FX ultra knob assigned to group 4 on each side.
scroll knob - selects effect
loop knob - push = on/off; turn = effect parameter
in botton - beats down
out button - beats up
loop button - deck 1
save button - deck 2
effects cue button - 'route DJ-FX to send' (in setup>plugins>DJ-FX)
USB INSERT button - show/hide DJ-FX
the only issue I am having is that I have to switch both sides to group 4 in order to make the USB insert and 'effects CUE' button properly send the correct midi command. I kind of which there was a way to make the layers universal instead of 2 sided. Maybe group 4 and 5 could be grouped together and group 1 2 and 3 could be dual sided. For instance, hitting group 4 or 5 on either side switches both sides to group 4 or 5. Going back to 1, 2 or 3 on either side would switch just that side back to whatever group you selected.

It would be dope if you we could access that screen. i'm thinking switching to layer 2 shows layer 2 momentarily on the screen. and if you could rename them...lawd have mercy.

question for Zach
does each MIDI layer on the 62 also have two sub layers in the cue/sample buttons, and two sub layers in each LOOP section?
I think that is what I was finding out yesterday, which makes the options for mapping the 62 utterly ridiculous if so

all buttons and knobs in the cue/sample and loop sections (with the exception of 'delete' has 2 midi note #'s depending on if it's in cue/sample or auto/manual mode. so yes.

if you do implement this change, please make it selectable via preferences. layer 2-5 should be optionally linked or un-linked.

what I LOVE about the 62.....
is that its an all-in-one battle type mixer for today's day and age. Back when i started, the vestax pmc 05 was the mixer of choice for us hiphop/scratch djs and it didn't have many features. All i'm saying is that mixers have gone a long ways since then :)
Thanks Rane/Serato!

Dub, or any of you other 62 owners, have you been able to try out VST FX routing Ableton on the 62 (without the Bridge) for usb insert FX ? If so, did you hook up a second computer for Ableton?
Ie like this setup described for 68 > rane.com

i've tried it with the same pc and with a different pc. regardless of whether its the same computer or anther the steps are exactly the same as in the sixty-eight tutorial.
also i noticed when using the same computer serato drivers kick in when serato is running and if are using ableton as the vst host, the bridge driver kicks in.
i can't remember all the particulars but i remembered i had to adjust the latency pretty high because i got alot of pops.
i'm on the road without a sixty-two but i'll post up the particulars when i get back later this week.
