is there anyone in the itch world still loving there ns7 ? because the buzz on it has been kind of quiet and i was just wondering if anybody who had it in the last maybe two years have been doing major gigs with it without any problems.I went to my local GC over the weekend and had the opportunity to play on it for a few and all i have to say is WOW... this controller is sweet i,m thinking of getting one the only issue is that it is very heavy but comparing to tech.1200 with about 5 crates of records i guest the weight is not that bad i,m currently using ssl but i want to just plug and play vs time code.

I've had mine for about a year and a half and just love it. I also have a set of V7's which I also love. The NS7 although a bit on the heavy side makes for a great mobile DJ setup. I also prefer the motorized platters vs non motorized platters of other controllers.

i hear you i was thinking about getting the ns7 plus a soft case to make traveling a little bit more easier and yes the motorize platters is definitely a big plus.

ive had mine for about a year and a bit now , the weight isn't that much of an issue , it just comes with a well made controller i guess , if i was going to get something else then id move to a pair of techs and a mixer , there isn't another controller that i would buy other than the ns7 except maybe the v7s
i don't think i would bother with a soft case , the flight case all though heavy keeps it from getting knocked and damaged , ive never taken mine out of the flight case yet

The softcase was just a thought so that I can go as light as possible but I definitely understand the the protection flight case offers

i sold my ns7 after 2 years, got tired of carrying that heavy fucker after a while hehe but was good fun, i now own an NS6 which is a monster feature-wise, but i definitely miss the tight response of the motorized platters, i think ill never dominate jog wheels for scratching.

Good question. I'm picking mine up on Wednesday and I was trying to gauge people's use of it and there isn't a lot of current discussion on it out there. I'm cool with the weight since I already own a pair of Techs. I figure the NS7 will come in handy for my mobile stuff. I still want a smaller controller for this one weekly gig I have where I'm really more of a sound man than a DJ and the NS7 is too big for this gig.
I'm going to have to really test the NS7 out at home because I'm still a little wary of Itch and the device. Can the NS7 and Itch handle 6 to 7 hours gigs with no crashes? Are there any overheating issues? Any major common flaws that I should know about?

i've had my NS7 for over 2+ years now. i bought it brand new @ GC. yes its heavy (but) hey 2 me you get what u paid for. this thing is built like a tank. mines has been in a flight case since day one. i have yet to have one single problem. (even at a wedding ,some drunky dude) knocked my bud light out of my hand & spilled all over my platter. i mixed the song over, wiped down the platter with my shirt. and kept on giging all the way to the end of the night without no problems.i only do Mobile Dj.ing. i do schools dances & mainly weddings.so i lug it around all the tyme, but main thing is no problems. ohhh yeah i use itch & virtual DJ with no issues.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD LAPTOP....if pc then nothing less than Intel Core i5.. but MACs are usually the recommended laptop of choice.

Been owning, playing, lugging, carrying, everything with my NS7 since it first came to the market. Love it and I always get "ahh...ooh...woow!" comment about it but that is not the point, the point is that it does what it designed to do, and do it very well. Suits my needs.
Forget the soft case. Don't waste your money with the SKB soft case. Best is to get a keyboard bag/case for a 76 or less keys keyboard and buy some high density foam and create a housing for it on your own - best mod ever.
I use the NS7 mainly for my mobile gigs, which is twice a month. On occasion and more frequently lately, I have been travelling with it for bigger gigs. It's still rocking hard and strong. Zero issue what's so ever since day one! I am 100% confident with it and know what to do should a surprise appears.
Get it while supply lasts. You won't regret it! And oh, you'll love ITCH too, especially all your saved cues and loops in SSL are usable in ITCH! :)
Overtime, the weight will get to you. It's the reason I am getting the VCI-380.

DJBrian Dowling has it right, not much talk about the NS7 because it just works, and works well. I have had mine for a couple of years now. I liked it so much, I bought 2 V7's too. Keep in mind that there is a replacement in the works that is supposed to have drum pads on it. No word when it is coming out or if it will work with Itch or some other software. You can't go wrong with the NS7. It is the Tech 1200 of controllers. I kind of feel sorry for all the people that have a controller that doesn't have spinning platters.

I've had mine NS7 since apr/2009. It's amazing, but it's too heavy!!
During one year I had some problems with ITCH and Windows. Since I've changed to Snow and Lion OSx, I had no more problems.

I've had mine for 3 years now, use it weekly to gig out, and I'm mobile. I STILL don't have a flight case......that's the only regret I have. Also, I need to take it apart and clean the right decks cue buttons contact points etc. But over all, I wouldn't give it up for anything.
I am however going to grab a VCi-380 for weddings and such, and leave my NS7 at my residency. Plus, I want to f around with all those buttons!

I've had my NS7 since August 09' and I've been loving every minute of it without any problems. It is a bit heavy and like Dj dVO stated the weight may get to you eventually. It got to me eventually which is why I picked up the vci 300 mk2 last month to use for wedding and small events. I'm like DJ Boom Bap, I plan to leave the ns7 at home (for now).
It's a real mans controller and I would vote it as the best controller on the market has down compared to any other controller and equal to the v7's. It's built like a tank and worth every penny that you spend on it.
When I first got it I did have a few problems with freezing but I went out and bought a macbook pro and never looked back. It's so accurate and no latency problems since the addition of the MBP. I'm going to see how the vci 300 works out for me at gigs, but I love the spinning platters and may just have to deal with the weight of the ns7 plus the flight case.
The good thing about the numark flight case is that it has wheels and they're really useful. I had to find a work around for lifting the ns7 plus flight case unto a table or dj table facade. I would take my ns7 out of the case then put the case on the table first then insert the ns7.
Get the NS7! You'll probably never touch tt's again, plus no stylus to worry about ever!

Antivirus can be a big problem as well. If its dedicated to DJing and Music type apps then their really is no need for a resource hungry app scanning in the background.

I agree with everything you said about the laptop, unfortunately the other part of that statement is that people are able to do everything they want on a Mac -AND- DJ on it.
I do think the Mac is very overpriced compared to similar features on a PC, however, the key is the operating system and it's foundation...Linux/unix. It handles similar hardware very differently.
It was the difference you would see with Windows based servers vs Linux/Unix based servers.
Uptime on a windows server was measured in hours whereas uptime on Linux/unix servers were typically much higher ,days, weeks and months.
All this to say the OS matters with things like graphics and audio processing, even with similar hardware.
I don't know how this came to be a Mac vs Windows debate, as both will generally fill your need with a NS7.

Two reasons Macs are better.
1. Hardware is top tier.
2. Software is top tier.
Sorry DJ Tyme, but to take a user's statement about their personal experience with Itch & turn it into a "I'm salted 'cause I can't afford a mac.....fuck all macs!!!!" type of thread. YOU, sir, made this into a mac vs pc issue. No trying to debate you sir 'cause I already know what TIME it actually is.

boss sounds there are plenty of people running macs that are having problems with itch , just read the help threads and find out , just because someone says they bought a mac and all their problems are sorted doesnt mean anything, there will allways be problems on both platforms ,
ive run itch on 3 different windows laptops with no problems whatsoever,
i doubt ill ever find the need to spend 3 times the amount on a mac when i can just get a windows pc that does the same job for a 3rd the money

What better way to claim fanboyism than to respond with fanboyism?
/s
But since we're claiming statistics, I'll take that bet. Let's go through the help threads shall we? Don't worry, I'll wait.
If I recall correctly, was it not you who purchased a low-spec, budget Toshiba laptop from Best Buy? Hard to make that statement when there were systems that cost $1200 that would run ITCH just as well if not better than Mac OS X right on the other shelf that you passed by but had no problem plopping down the money for a MBP.
Matter of fact...

...yeah...
Seriously? It is practically the status quo from you. Ridiculous, pointless threads, or pointless post in topics (See: goo.gl).
That's called poor system maintenance. I've had Windows Server 2003 machines with uptimes in excess of 800 days.
Likewise, I've had a number of Linux servers (mostly CentOS and Fedora these days. I used to use RedHat as well prior to the introduction of RHEL and The Fedora [Core] Project) in I've seen equally high uptimes. It's all in maintenance, security, and if you choose to update or not.
It's also an innacurate statement. Both systems measure uptime in seconds (Windows regularly reports it and catalogs it in the Event Viewer). The user interface is usually presented in a user-friendly way to give an easier read out. Input the uptime command in a cli and you'll see the same thing.
You'll get no argument from me on this one, though I personally prefer to do my media editing under Windows. I also cannot stand CoreAudio. ASIO is easy to work with by comparison.
Let's be honest: All you pay for is the logo and the brand. *nix is open source. That is in no way contributing to the cost of Mac. Mac OS is practically dirt cheap (seriously, a copy of Mac OS X Lion is all of $29.99 USD). Manufacturing is done for pennies on the dollar on assembly lines in warehouses in China. The system case is hard plastic (or anodized aluminum in some cases) which is cheap as hell to mass produce (relatively speaking, of course). Last I heard, the trackpad was from Synaptics. Then there's the standard, chicklet-style, mass-produced keyboard. They are no longer using self-commissioned PowerPC cpus, they use Intel CPUs available practically over the counter (www.newegg.com). I dare anyone to justify their egregious cost for RAM (store.apple.com). Seriously, anyone (www.newegg.com).
2. Software is top tier.
Well, there goes that argument...
Now don't get me wrong. I like Mac OS X. Hell, if you see my system profiles, you'll see one of my systems run Mac OS X 10.7.2. But I'm not buying a Mac when I can buy a system for three-fourths the cost with the exact same specs and get equal or better performance. If I want Mac OS X, I'll just install it like I do any other system.
So to summarize, if you like Macs, that's cool. We know you "love" your MacBook Pro. You've made that pretty evident over multiple post over the past few months in multiple topics. That's cool too. But don't come rubbing it in everyone else's face with an elitist attitude to the point that you give the appearance of a pompous individual who believes they are better than someone because of their product choice. Are you seriously accusing people of being in denial? Really? int.na.tl

i knew it was a matter of tyme b4 we had a jerk like (DJ BOSS SOUNDS) coming on here to stir up trouble. DJ Hamplifier said it best = boss sounds there are plenty of people running macs that are having problems with itch , just read the help threads and find out , just because someone says they bought a mac and all their problems are sorted doesnt mean anything, there will allways be problems on both platforms. and @ Boss Sounds you said = Hardware is top tier ? dummy macs now use (Intel processors) same thing windows have been using for years. and my laptop is = 17'' Dell with 8gigs of ram,1TB hard drive, and a intel core i7-2630Qm (thats Quad Core) 2.00 Ghz with turbo boost up to 3.0Ghz. and it cost me $585.get those same specs on a mac & you have to sell your 1st born just to buy the same machine. :-)

uptime - definition of uptime by the Free Online Dictionary ...
up·time ( p t m ). n. The time during which a device, such as a computer, is functioning or available for use.
you are talking about the command and display on a computer, I'm referring to the actual meaning and the term. why would you want to have a tit for tat when you understand what I'm talking about.
upgrades on a windows machine is vastly different than what is done on a linux/unix box because windows locks certain files requiring the server to usually be taken down for patching/upgrades. only kernel upgrades require this on the others.
Apparently you know what you're talking about and I do it for a fortune 100 company, so lets not get get too far off track here.
All I'm saying is that the combination of the hardware and software lends to usually more stable performance on Macs. This is not a guarantee but consider the fact that professionals in many industries put their reputation and vast data systems on software that has a linux/unix/BSD...backbone which is what Mac osx does as well.
The hardware is now largely irrelevant. It is the marketing genius/hype that lets Apple purport their hardware as better.
Macs generally handle streaming audio/video better than PC because of its linux/unix backbone, the way it handles interrupts and etc.

You are correct, and it was an extraneous point not necessary of being addressed. My apologies on that.

No worries.
I really loved the NS7 and still think it and the V7's are the best controllers...specifically for those that are making the transition from the vinyl world.
Of course, it really depends on the genre and your personal like for Motorized turntables.
I never understood people using that as their reason, other than weight. You can always make them operate exactly like Non-motorized by hitting the "Motor off" button.

It's worth it.
I've got the Odyssey FZGSNS7W myself (goo.gl). It's been discontinued unfortunately, but it's a damn good case. There are plenty of others out there from Odyssey, Gator, other manufacturers, and a few sold directly by Numark. I suggest you get one. It will protect your equipment, especially during transport and storage where anything and everything can happen.
Watchwww.youtube.com - DJ Esco vid on the case.
By the way, it's also a theft deterrent. Almost anyone can swipe a ~47 lb piece of equipment and be off before you know what happened. However, a ~47lb piece of equipment in a case that weighs just as much isn't so easy to just snatch and grab...

the thing about owning a heavy piece of equipment is that it feels real, solid and well built and not a like a toy like other controllers ;)
