Hi henry,
What kind of live mix are you wanting to record? Just you mixing songs in Scratch Live? Or are you wanting to record something to an Ableton Live set so you can edit it in Ableton?
Cheers

The Rane SL 2 unit can only record one side at a time. This feature was only meant to be for archiving your vinyl collection. The only way to record a mix (to make a demo) would be to use the Scratch Live + Ableton "The Bridge" feature or use a third party recording program such as Audacity.
The SL 3 actually has the ability to record your mix from Scratch Live with the push of a button. But I'm guessing you already own the SL 2.
So to record a mix tape with Scratch Live and Ableton, follow these steps:
1, Start up Ableton
2. Start up Scratch Live
3. Go to the SETUP menu, and navigate to the PLUGINS tab
4. Find the Ableton Plugin, and make sure "Enable the Bridge" is selected.
5. Exit out of the SETUP menu and on the left side of the Scratch Live screen is the "RECORD" tab. Click on this to open the record section.
6. Make sure you set your 'Input Source' to ".als". This is the Ableton file type.
7. Now click the red circle (Record)
8. Perform your mix as usual
9. When you are finished, click the red button again to stop recording.
10. Give it a filename, and click Save. This will save your mix as an .als file which then you will use to open in Ableton.
11. Close Scratch Live
12. The Ableton files are usually saved in your Username > Music > _Serato_ > Recording folder
13. Open this up and there is a full mix tape of everything you mixed!
Have a look through this page and these videos if you get stuck

Hope this helps you out!

Yes if you want to record your mix into Ableton (so you can edit it in ableton later) then it is quite a long procedure.
But doing it this way is a very good way of making mix tapes/demos because if you screw up halfway through your mix, you don't have to start again from scratch, you can just go in (with ableton) and change the parts that you messed up!
The Bridge is a great plugin and I always use it to record all my mixes.
Hope you get it sorted!
Cheers :)
