Support staff don't recommend the i3 chips for Scratch Live, which is generally less CPU intensive than Itch. Those chips aren't really meant for serious work.
You should really go for an i5 at least.

yea but they also dont recommend running a 1.8ghz with only 2mb of ram either and i find that it runs fine with itch and ns7 , so i figured the i3 laptop would be a much faster than my current one

Spend your money however you like, but the cost of an i5 is not that much greater than an i3.
You're going from a system which is 'ok' to another system which is 'ok'.
If your current system works, why not wait a bit longer and buy something with a bit more grunt? Make the upgrade really worthwhile...

the cost of an i5 is at least another 300 dollars on top of the price of this one and that would be for a factory refurbished one, and it will take me a bloody long time to come up with that extra cash

Upgrading for me is looking at my purchases if it will be good on the next 3 years. If your a working Dj you will get it in a couple of gigs but if your a bedroom Dj with a Day job I would understand that you got priorities and bills.

it is not only the processor but also the underlying hardware that makes a system run reliable ...
that said, don't wast your money on an i3, it's the celeron variant of the I series
and don't invest in 12gb of memory unless you want to run 4 vm's at once, and in that case your processor wouldn't allow...
also look at the speed of your harddisk, take one that spins no less than 7200rpm

I have an i3 @2.4GHz in my dv6 with 4gb ram running itch 2.2 and the numark ns6 and I have had NO problems whatsoever! Itch has never hanged on me, nor have I ever had audio drop outs.Ive had 7 hour gigs of continuous play, no problem. Ive left itch running once while i was designing on photoshop and illustrator at the same time, no problems.
im a comp sci major so i know how to keep my computer healthy.lol
I see you mentioned that it was a sandy bridge processor?those are the newest intel processors(3rd gen). They're alot smaller but are suppose to outdue the 2nd gen chips in every aspect. The main focus on this generation was to make it smaller, consume less power, and increase the performance of integrated graphics for intel's new "ultrabook" line. Serato video doesn't allow integrated graphics for video though.

just check the frequency rate of that processor though. Also look into the return policy. I dont want to be the reason you end up stuck with a laptop that doesnt meet your needs(thats IF you have problems with it). Other than that, Im glad i was able to help!

I wouldn't recommend running anything with 2mb of RAM...
But yeah, Serato makes recommendations for system specifications. You can make the choice to not follow them at your own discretion.
The i3 is the equivalent of a Celeron for the modern age. I don't care what Intel says.

oh yeah 2 gig ram haha ,
well results are in and itch runs fine, so much better and responsive than my old system was, latency is down to 1ms ,cpu bar has never gone over 1/4 yet and i put it through its paces last night for about 45 mins , ran both decks with two effects on and then slowed the tracks down as far as they would go, all at the same time and still mint the cpu is still low , there were no drop outs, glitches or complete system failures so im happy so far

I feel the same way I ignored the video since it started....I keep telling myself most of the good remixes are still in audio and probably will never be in Video but the people at the bar where I'm working at keeps on asking How come I don't do video.......
Until now I'm still thinking that this is just a fad......But it won't hurt having Video as well coz I can see them watching and appreciated the videos that I played..
The bar I work at we don't have a Dancefloor just tables and chair........So most of the time they are on there chairs watching the video and keep them entertained and have something to talk about....lol
