Sup Peeps,
I have an issue when I try analyzing mp4 files, it just takes forever... is this normal? It might be but check out this quick 1 minute video on how long it takes to analyze files.. (Only happens when I analyze more than 1 at a time)
youtu.be
On my Macbook I upgraded internal HD to SSD to host OS.
I also added second internal HD by replacing optical drive. (5400rpm 1TB) This drive has all MP4 Files.
Tech Specs:
Macbook pro 2011 (2.2 Quad) with 8gb ram
ssl 2.3.3
-Nothing else is running in background..
What you guys think?

wow. that's extremely slow. it seems like it's a hard disk bottleneck.
run AJA system test on that drive and post back your numbers.

maybe but the difference in 5200 to 5400 shouldn't be that obvious in a 2.5" drive. run the aja and post the numbers. it'll tell you if the drive is performing as normal or not.

Nice to have that AJA System Test tool.
On my nearly-full WD 5400rpm 1TB I get:
Read 87.1mb/sec Write 85.5mb/sec
(files analyze 8 at a time pretty quickly from that drive)
On my OCZ Vertex 3 240gb SSD I get:
Read 530.1mb/sec Write 532.3mb/sec
:-)

I have exactly the same problem... it's sooooo slow...
I'm using an extern Western Digital 2 TB with Firewire 800.
I'm just surprised that it is that slow... I'm analyzing now for 10 hours and from 8000 files about 550 are done... that's craziness :/
Is this normal because it's MP4 and it takes so long? My Macbook isn't even hot or anything ...
thanks for help

nope it should not be that slow....my 2008 mbp hooked up to wd 4tb only takes about12 hours to analyze 18000 vids ....It does take long to scan than mp3's but not that much

Mine is reading 44/44 mb/s when configured for a file 512mb. Is this bad?

I'd say since my nearly-full 5400rpm WD 1tb drive is giving nearly twice the above two results... yea sounds kind of slow. But still plenty fast for DJ-ing video.
Maybe your machines are older? That will definitely affect results....

I think 2.3.3 is the version that adds the tag lib to MP4 files. The same thing happened to mine and all I could do was suffer through the process. Once it works through all the old files, new ones will analyze faster.
