so i have a couple of older laptops that i'd like to sell. problem is i don't have the recovery discs for them anymore and need to wipe the hard drives before selling. what are my options here? also, one of the machines was a windows vista machine which i "downgraded" to windows XP and in doing so lost all the drivers. i was able to recover all but the audio drivers which i found for the machine but didn't work. will a clean wipe and re-install solve this issue as well?

The recovery discs may be built in directly to the laptops. If this laptop was built in the last 4-5 years, it may have this. What type of PC is it? Typically push like F2 or F4 in the first couple of seconds while the "HEY THIS IS AN HP PC" screen is booting up.

Are you an original owner of the second PC? Not quite sure about the second question, but it's worth a shot to wipe it. I'd try calling whoever you bought it from. If Vista came on it, there must be some way that they can put it on, as you bought an access key.

Download this:

Burn it to a CD, boot to that CD and it will wipe the drive clean.

A clean reinstall of vista or windows 7 will fix the driver issues you had.

thank you gentlemen. Sunny, the PCs are a Toshiba Satellite (can't remember the year but it's old and big. so old it isn't even widescreen) and an Acer Travelmate. the Travelmate is the one with the missing driver. i am the OG owner of the Toshiba and bought the Travelmate refurbished.
