It's just a way of jumping down to that particular message - on the old website it was named "Link", which was a bit ambiguous IMO.

So if I click on it, it saves to the clipboard, say that position when posted in another thread?

Pretty much - except that you'll still have to actually copy the URL to your clipboard from the address bar since there's no real cross browser way to do that without involving something like Flash.

Ahhh!! Now I see, "Said the blind man"! When you click on "Permalink" it changes the URL to equate some type of "Positioning" on the screen...like GPS for tracking a thread...

Oh, y'all are cool as hell...
