I've been searching for about 2 hours and can't find anything that clearly states how to ID which generation 57 is which.
I see the flat vs. concave buttons.
the red ring around the buttons.
and what is with the B button? I have friends with 57s and they have no idea what I'm talking about.
someone got about 5 minutes to spare to clear it all up for me?
and why would I want to avoid the 2nd generation one? I heard there's an issue with that.
I know to use the SEARCH function. but can't find the answers.

There are only 2
Red border is the 2nd generation
B buttons are to play the cues, effects, loops, etc etc
Youre better of reading the manual :)

I'm wondering the same thing. I just bought mine from an eBay seller, think its a UK version - if they exist.
I assumed it was a 2nd Generation as it has flat buttons, am I correct?

Also is there a 3rd Generation?

There are 3 generations. Search through the forum and there's lengthy discussions about the generations. Gen1 were concave, Gen2 became flat, Gen3 brought back the concave and has a red border along with the then current Serato branding. Now the 57SL has been discontinued, but support and updates will still be done do it.

Thanks, so mine is a 2nd generation. Why does it get a bad reputation versus the others? And is that justified?

Here's the lengthy thread:

The 2nd gen buttons would become unresponsive or require you to push the button harder. A spray of de-oxit typically is the solution to fix it.

I started the above thread about this and to be honest I've owned 2 versions and never had any problems with either except the smaller headphone jack breaking on both mixers.

If your in the market for the now discontinued Rane TTM-57SL Mixer I strongly suggest getting the last model that Rane produced for this GREAT mixer........red outline! At least you know your getting the "bulletproof" model that after a few versions was perfect.

All versions of the 57 are good. I prefer the first version personally.
The only physical difference is the B buttons. Everything else is the same.
The differences between the 3 are extremely minimal and I wouldn't say one is better than another.
