Hey guys I started another discussion asking about mixers and it seems I'm gonna go either the 56 or 61 or 62. My question about the 61 and 62 is pretty much in the title. Is there an SL1 built in or is the USB connection there just for midi mapping? I already use an SL3 so there's no point in moving back unless the SL1 for those mixers is upgraded to USB2 or has better sound quality.
The biggest reason it's important tho is I use a Mac Book Pro with limited connections. It's got 2 USB2s and a FireWire port. Since t SL3 and Dicers take up the two USB ports I don't have any more room and I really want to avoid using a hub.

Yes, the 61 and 62 have the soundcard "built-in" in the mixer. No need for external SL1/2/3/4 boxes.

Damn, it'd be smart of them to make new mixers without it considering they still sell al the SL models in store. Damn.

So your wanting us to make a mixer that has a USB input for MIDI but not add the sound card in the mixer? I could see that being useful for some. Going even further it would be cool to be able to plug the SL1, SL3, SL4 into the mixer and use it as a hub of sorts.
That way you would only need to use one USB input on your computer for both devices.
If that is something you'd be into start some discussion about it. If there is enough of a demand it might be possible?

I'm not sure about the demand for it but my point is that if someone ever wants to move on from the SL1 then Rane can only make money off of the SL2,3,or4, or a mixer - but not both.

You want to avoid a hub but would rather deal with using a sl box? I think a 56 would be ideal for you if you dont want to 'waste' money on another sound card. And thats probably why its not discontunued.

Well yea of course. Just mentioning it would be smart to offer some midi capability without having to use the integrated sound card. And yes, downgrading from an Sl3 to an SL1 is definitely a waste.

Well you can use the Mixers midicapabilites without the soundcard if you like.
And also it's not really an SL1 inside of them, more like a SL3, it has the two channels and an aux channel so it's like it has three channels, and way better sound than an SL1 :)

Yes! That's what I'm talkin about! I haven't been able to find that info out anywhere. I was never sure if I actually had to use the integrated box

If you're using Scratch Live you either have to use the integradet box or an SL1,2 or 3.. But the integraded boxses are the best on the market right now, so not doing it would be stupid :P
But You could hook up a SL3 and a 61/62 and use the SL3 for audio and mixer for midi if you like...
The mixer is fully MIDImapable :)

The SL3's USB has 12 channels of audio for 6 in, 6 out. That means you have 3 stereo inputs and 3 stereo outputs.
The Sixty-Two has 20 channels of low-latency audio. That is 8 in, 12 out, meaning you have 4 stereo inputs and 6 stereo outputs from the mixer.

Thanks, appreciate the info guys! I have looked up plenty of reviews and information but it was never made clear if plugging in the USB for any of the mixers with integrated SL would force you to use the internal SL1 rather than my SL3.

There is no internal SL1 in the mixers, each audio interface is independently designed and they are their own devices. That being said, you will not be able to have multiple Rane devices plugged into the same computer and be able to use Scratch Live with them both. Scratch Live was designed to support one at a time, so you can plug in your Rane Mixer for Serato, say a 57,68,62, or 61, OR you can plug in an interface box like a SL1,2,3,4, but not both at the same time.

Didn't people connect their 61/62 to a SL3 to be able to use Mix Emergency and midimap their mixer to the program? Or did I get that wrong? Maybe it's just Scratch Live that won't support the midi from the mixer?

You got it right, but remember, they're using 2.3.3 or below in order to use Mix Emergency. The 61/62 need 2.4.0+ to use. So using an older version, Scratch Live doesn't know what the 61/62 are as there's no code for them, Scratch Live just sees the 61/62 as a midi controller.

Since the 62 is a full on MIDI mixer, I was curious if anybody out there is using it with a non Serato product.
