Anyone think i can get away with a sempron?

I'm on a budget... and found this laptop...

www.averatec.com

after doing some research on this board... only 1 person (nobspangle) said that a sempron was working well... but it was a desktop...

after some more research.. i found out this uses a 266mhz front side bus with a small cache... so i'm not sure?

sempron is just an athlon with less cache it should work just fine.
ummagawd 5:03 AM - 28 September, 2005
yea i'm just worried because the cache does have a direct relation to how well the processor performs...

I'll be doing all of the tweaks.... and the lappy already has 512mb... i'm just worried about the processor

if you are really worried maybe you should go with a Pentium M. They have a ton of cache but cost a ton of cash. The Sempron is not that bad a chip. Here is a review where it stomps out a celeron D.

I'd say you'll be fine, my Sempron is only a 2400+ and the hard drive is just a 5400RPM, and I can run at buffer 1 no problems.
My desktop is dedicated to SSL though it has no other software installed at all and the only website I ever go to is this one to download updates.
Make sure you go through all the tweaks and you'll be fine.

i've read those articles... makes me a little bit more comfy about getting it... well I think i'd have to now... because I actually did spring for a pentium M only to get scammed (on ebay)... so now I don't have the cash for a pentium...

nobspangle (or anyone else)... have you tried using SSL along with recording back straight into it... like when you want to record your mixes?

I have had good luck buying stuff in person off people on Craigslist. My boy picked up a T-42 1.7Ghz Pentium M with a docking station for about 800. but nothing beats brand new

I've never tried recording back to my sempron, I always leave recording to my pentium 4 on a seperate machine.

i was thinking about the acer... but when i read reviews on the 3000 series.... i had some serious doubts.... everyone had something to complain about it and more than half returned it.

Not sure about the ML30 though... i'll look into it.

Dell is having a sale right now on their inspiron 6000 ... pentium M chip at 1.6ghz, 512 ram and 40g HD. Supposedly the longest battery life in their line up ALL for only 699. I'm really thinking about it. I just don't like how big it is.

What complainiants are u hearing i use the turion ml-30 acer 5000. the only things that are wrong is heat which amd chips are known for but they dont crash at all. also the turion 5000 came with a 4200rpm drive and a 133mhz bus. writers think they should of put a 5400 and bump the bus up to 400mhz. but overall the 5000 is the one u should get. sempron is low end not good to use for serato cuz it has a 256cache campared the 5000 turion which has a 1mb cache
