Anyone else buy a VCI300 @ Guitar Center over the last few months?

FabulousFrequencies 4:34 PM - 18 April, 2012
I am just now reading about the rebate for the free vfx-1 that was advertised nowhere in the store, nor was I given a rebate receipt at the time of purchase, which fell within the qualifying promotional time frame. I called AM&S to inquire about it and they claim they tell all their dealers about these offers. Conversely GC in the subsequent phone call claims they never knew anything about it.

When I seen the price of the vci300 drop (which was on my wishlist, along with a vfx-1) I walked into my nearest retailer and showed some love. Now, three days after that redicuous postmark requirement i'm told i'm SOL and nobody is responsible, not even myself. The more I search this matter, the more disgusted i'm getting because I have an ugly theory brewing in my mind that is 'business as usual' and not very consumer appealing.

What is a company to do when it decides to combine the FX and controller into one product like say.. the vci-380? And then price it in the same ballpark as a vci300 + FX unit? Well that's easy; They have to dump the remaining stock and FAST. Once I found out about the rebate I did a ton of digging. It turns out this thing has been extended, and extended, and extended 4 or 5 times.. I have 4 different forms from AM&S in front of me, all with extended deadlines. I guess the stock wasn't moving fast enough?

It was one thing to come home, unpack my controller, sign up for the forums, and start googling the deck sensativity issue only to stumble across the 'coming soon' vci-380... It's a whole other ballgame to then stumble across a forum post full of people happy as shit with their new vfx-1's they got from a rebate I am 3 days late to qualify for the postmark requirement, even though I purchased it within the offer period. Both AM&S and GC pleading ignorance..

Has anyone else gone through this? Nobody will claim responsibility for this fail and nobody will make it right with me.

FabulousFrequencies 8:24 PM - 18 April, 2012
It was never on GC's website, I presume you mean the Vestax site? The GC rep claimed they never even heard of the offer.
FabulousFrequencies 8:25 PM - 18 April, 2012
Oh, and I didn't see it via my research before I bought it. I just seen a price drop. Bad luck I guess. Still believe the retailer has a duty here..

Freestyle,

I did send it in and i'm asking Vestax to man up and extend the postmark deadline. Not the offer, but the postmark deadline. Give the people who had NO idea a chance to be treated the same way other who did know were. I did mail it in, certified, 3 days late. I don't expect it to be accepted, But I expect a signature return, a rejection letter with a reason, and they can go ahead and send back my box UPC so I can take that sucker back on the box because that's not their property. And once i'm done creating that headache, i'm really going to begin.

State Attorney General.. Who will solicit written proof either validating that AM&S informed GC and GC played dirty (presumably to sell their own vfx-1 stock from the floor) or that AM&S is full of sh*t and selectively informed the smaller distributors because i'm sure GC pops out a LOT of units. One way or another I'm going to find out why I am expected to pay for something a bunch of other people got for free. The BBB report will just ice the cake. Too many people lay down and take this kind of sh*t; I don't.

Some people mentioned 'it's all over the web' but I have to say in response to that, when I researched the units was in summer last year when they were not running the offer. I expected to pay 700 for the unit then and 169 for the FX. Then all the searching I did was reviews, demo's, etc. When I decided I had the $ to go put my hands on one I walked into a GC which had just about every piece of kit you can imagine. That's when I seen the price drop. Not everyone goes in or bites on a sale just because they found an offer somewhere. this is something I planned for months and just never seen or was told about the offer.

I just received my vfx-1 rebate on wednesday. I was going to buy the vci300 from GC and 123dj, but both of them were trying to sale me the vfx-1 without mentioning the rebate. I had already researched that I could get the rebate so I ordered it elsewhere and sent it off and received it 2 weeks later.

I too would still send it in just in case they decide to send you one anyway. I see companies still selling the vci300mk2 online and advertising a rebate even though it has expired. I hope that it works out for you and if it doesn't send the vci300 back and pick up the new 380. That thing is sweet, but for me the only reason I picked up the vci300 was because the vfx1 was included and the price dropped. Plus I knew that they were coming out with a new unit but I don't care, bc I've never had a vci300 mk2 and always wanted one.

Thank you Frank, that is invaluable information. Please people, keep speaking up. I sent a lengthy email to Vestax about this tonight.. not AM&S, but Vestax Japan. Ron here on the forums hooked me up. Let's see if they make this right. FYI, I did send it in certified the 18th. Just to prove I gave it a shot.

Definitely let us know how this works out. I purchased my 300MKII well before the offer ended (have receipt saved since it's such a huge purchase, one I did after the price drop, as well) and was never informed by GC or came across anything about it in my searches for defects, known issues, reviews, etc (obviously didn't look in the rght places, as I intended on purchasing from a retailer).

I mean, effects, outside of the 'easter egg,' would be fantastic - especially, if others got it for free in the same purchasing time-frame as me. I won't expect much, though.

Thanks for pointing me over here,
-Matt

Hopefully Matt they'll extend it or update the the pervious rebate. A lot of people don't shop on ebay but I do and that's how I found out about the rebate. Here is the company I ordered from www.ebay.com and they had the rebate on their website and I made sure that they were authorized dealers.
I even contacted them online before I ordered and asked them to verify that they were an authorized dealer and was the rebate valid. They were very upfront and helpful.

I called 123dj about the vfx1 and they were trying to sell it to me until I asked them about the rebate and then they were like let me check. They then said they had forgotten about the rebate. I'm done with that company and I only buy from GC if they're having an incredible sale. They're crooks too!

Matt since the 15th fell on a Sunday you may get lucky. Fingers crossed for you man.

I think it would be a nice gift from vestax, to people that have the VCI-300 get the remaining stock.

Dedicated fans...you know we are gonna get the 380 anyways.

UPDATE:

Ron a rep on this site, put me in touch with Reishi's email, and I sent him a few paragraphs about the incident. He said he was in the US and meeting with AM&S and would look into it. No more than an hour passed and a rep from AM&S emailed me and said they had not received my form yet, but would process it when it came. They said they would 'extend the deadline a few days due to it previously falling on a Sunday'

Last week, in an extremely timely manner I received my VFX-1. I have to say Ron sent me to the right individual. And Reishi considering who he is and his schedule, well let's just say that was very cool of him. I would rate this a VERY good experience with Vestax as a company. As long as I can now get them to stand behind this product and any future issues I might have, I would rate them an A+ and they have my loyalty as a consumer (380, here I come..)

AM&S on the other hand took the rebate form down immediately after and I am incredibly displeased with they way they treated me until Reishi was breathing down their necks. It is very disheartening after all I went through to kind of bitch on *everyones* behalf of this move between AM&S and GC (neither willing to claim responsibility throughout the corespondence) as I pointed out in a few thorough emails it was about all of us, not just me (this thread was mentioned). To date I don't know how many of you tried as hard as I did with these guys, But I tried for you and I know they took care of me on it.

Overall, I am going to continue to patronize GC, but NOT until i've scoured the net for every rebate, authorized dealer price (they match), coupon, or promo. Even if it means auditioning equipment in the store, and leaving without it just to come home and do some homework. It's convienent to walk in and walk out with my gear and not wait, and at least in a brick and morter store I can put my hands on the product first. But damned if I'm putting the fate of my wallet in their hands at this point. Do your homework!

Vestax as a company is good in my book, and after a little work I feel satisfied that I got.. Well.. What everyone else seemed to get; Which is what had me angry in the first place. AM&S on the other hand, I will find a way around if I have to order from the UK to get a product they distribute here. I don't know the relationship AM&S has with Vestax, but if it's growing weary they should drop them and pick up a different distributor that doesn't marginalize their consumer base.

Thanks for everyone who chimed in, it was appreciated.

I bought my VCI-300 back in November from my local GC. They didn't even know about the price drop or the rebate, but they looked it up on the net and saw that everybody else was selling them for $499, so they let me have it at that price. I then went home and printed out the rebate and sent it in and had my free VFX-1 in less than 2 weeks. Personally, I rather have a separate VFX-1 than a built in one like on the VCI-380. The VFX-1 works with any Itch controller and even works with SSL. I have a couple of V7's and I plug in my VFX-1 and use that instead of the one built in to the V7's.

I don't fault GC for not knowing about the rebate or the price drop. Most of the people that work there know more about guitar and instruments and PA systems than they do about DJ equipment. They always price match anything I buy, so I just simply do my homework before I buy anything.
