Pioneer DJM 900 or 800 or Rane 62? Your Choice?

divib 1:12 AM - 18 April, 2012
I am trying to have a better understanding on why the other is a better buy. Suggestions?
You can bring the DJM 800 or 900 in this convo.

Rane 62 is a 2 channel mixer; Pioneer DJM is a 4 channel
Rane 62 is a 1 mix input; Pioneer DJM has 2 mic inputs
Rane 62 has a "session in" that can be utilized as a 3rd channel through RCA
Pioneer has 2x more effects; known for its effects
Rane 62 is known for its magnetic crossfaders
Rane 62 has Hot Cues
Rane 62 can have 2 laptops being used at the same time
Pioneer has the Traktor
Rane has the Scratch Live

DJM 900 is $2,000
Rane 62 is $2,000

I specifically need a 2nd mic so I would have to buy a Mackie board profx8.
I've done my pricing homework. It comes out to a difference of $100 I have to pay more If i get the Rane 62 compared to the DJM 900. Mackie board is $200. So Total of $300 more for the 62.
I use scratch Live. The SL box built in to Rane 62, if bought separate I would assume its roughly $550.
So in that case I will have to pay $250 more for a Pioneer DJM 900.
Which takes us back to square 1 = DJM 900 has 4 channel, 2 mic input, and 2 times the effect options.

YOUR THOUGHTS - PIONEER OR RANE?
What has better quality? better build? better sound? Better mics? Would the Mackie Board make it better or worse? do I plug the rane 62 into the mackie and then into the power subs (or vice versa)?

AS FOR MY PERSONAL QUESTION:
I was an Internal DJ with a Pioneer DJM400 and Laptop, now wanting to go into a more involved mixer.
I have Denon DN-S5000 that I will be taking out of the garage and use these with the DJM or 62.
Is that cd player going to make it better or worse for anything more?

PLEASE HELP! I Have been looking everywhere for answers for the last 2 weeks!!

It's pretty much up to you...I have a DJM800 and DJM400 and I prefer to use them the only thing I find easier in buying any Serato mixer is less wiring bec you don't need a SL box, for me personally but I got use to using pioneer mixers plus DJM800 and 900 are also midi mappable to SL so you can have controls on SL thru the mixer but it all comes down what is easier and what you prefer

The Rane 68 has 2 mic inputs....
Personally I prefer Rane mixers, although I also have a DJM400 as a backup.

I have a rane 68 and think it's the best mixer out, especially if you use serato. options, options, options!

What was the Most Recent Pioneer Mixer you were using when you decided to get on board with the Rane 62?

If I get a Rane 68 I would be paying roughly $450+ more compared to just buying a Rane 62 and a Mackie profx8 Mic Board. In that case that opens up doors to other options as well.

That's a general answer if you're putting the option in my lap. I am try to understand what makes a pioneer a better choice or what makes a Rane a better option.

If need to save money or go with a more cheaper and compact route, to get the job done I can even jump to a simply yet all in one - Numark NS6.

I played on a DJM 800 which is a solid mixer. From what I see with the 62 you get the sound quality as you would a DJM 800 faders to me feel like butter compared to the DJM 800 and of course it 1 less thing to carry. As far as using it with a Mackie profx8 I never quite understood the use of a double gain when you have everything powered. You can go to DBX and get something more for a mic. Overall I like the simplicity of the mixer as well L+R and mix

You should have the A&H DB2 on that list. Great effects and sound quality. I would take an A&H over a Pioneer any day - for me, it's not worth the premium for the popular brand name.

I went with the Sixty Two. I was on the 57, and it was a logical progression - the Sixty Two was a 57 with all the bugs fixed, plus the functionality of a couple of controllers I was about to get to complement my 57. It was a no brainer in my case.

With the 62, you don't have to hook up any other hardware to get up and running with Scratch Live. Rane sound quality is hard to beat - versus Pioneer, Rane wins.

What exactly are your needs? Depending on whether you're doing mobile stuff or turntablism or a top40 club or whatever, the right mixer for you could be wildly different from what is best for someone in another setting.

I already answered that Question

My man overall its just a preference thing. Just like people who use JBL MACKIE and QSC all produce the same sound but I love QSC and my boy loves Yorkies
The answer what your looking for is up to what you feel comfortable with and the bang for your buck! Rane to me means less gear to buy and carry. Faders feel like butter. Here is a better solution goto www.americanmusical.com and do the 45 days comparison use which ever mixer YOU think you man want first then on the 44th day return it and get another mixer. O yea don't worry you don't have to pay for the mixer in full and you order today you get it the next day or the day after. That's my .02

i am buying 2 cdjs 900 or 2000 today. for mixer do you reccomend rane 68 or djm 850

i like how rane you can play 4 songs with 2 cdjs but heard the buttons were stiff and only 6 effects.

pioneer has many effects an i can get sl4 box for it but cant play 4 songs with 2 decks like rane?

i cant decide

abdul, I own both the 68 and the SL4, there is not real difference in deck control, apart from more cables needed when connecting the SL4 to the mixer. I usually got it set up with 2 x CDJ1000 & 2 x Tech 1210. > www.flickr.com

If you wanna control more than one deck using the same cdj you still will need to split the signal and turn one of the decks to internal mode. Im using these splitters whenever I wanna do this
> www.flickr.com > www.flickr.com - 4 single female rca cables splits into 8 male...

If going the the SL4 route you probably also wanna get some additional midi controller.

Personally I prefer Rane over Pioneer mixers, but thats down to personal preference I guess.
Im not so heavy on the FX, and whenever I really want to go mad, I hook up another laptop running ableton VST fx into the usb insert loop on the 68.

Not sure if youre able to that with the djm, could be wrong though...

Do you have a video on how that works cause it sounds dope but idk if i can do that with my 62

Tricapone, heres the VST thread, a couple of videos in there, also a alternative way to route it through the same computer > serato.com
Honestly I would think I would hear about more people trying this with the 62 by now,
I imagine there is more 62 users than 68 users out there?
abdul7991 5:22 AM - 17 June, 2012
yes i was just looking for 4 channel. decided to go with the djm n sl4 box
