Is the TTM56 still worth buying?

I have a 2 CDJ-800mk2's and a DJM-400. I spin hip-hop and I really want to get better with my scratching. When I bought the 400, it was cool, but now I feel I can't go on with this crappy fader. I really want the 57, but I don't want to spend that much money and I don't want to get spoiled and be dependent on the 57. I'm thinking about selling my 400 and getting a used 56, or I could sell the 400 and the SL1 for a 57. Tell me what you would do?

57 is where its at but if you want to have better skratch mixer and dont want to spend all that loot a 56 is a good way to go its a step up from the djm 400 but you should think about selling your cdjs for tech 12's if you want to skratch cause you cant really compare cdjs to 12's when it comes down to skratching

Yeah I'm starting to see that, but I just dont want to play out with 1200's. CDJ's are more convenient. The 56 is about $400, the 57 is $1250. But I should make about $900 selling my mixer and SL1.

I think the 56 is still worth it. It's a great mixer! I want to get one as a backup for my 57.

BOTTOM LINE: GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!
Don't sell yourself short. Get a 57. I don't care what mixer is already at the club...i ALWAYS bring my 57 and swap it out for the night-----and you should definitely get off the cdjs and step your game up to 1200's.
seriously tho, i did EXACTLY what you're talking about doing. i've got a set of cdj 1000s AND a set of cdj 800s and was running them on a DJM-400 (that pioneer FX button is sooooo beautifully simple and convenient) but i ended up buying the 57 for obvious reasons. over time, as i started playing at bigger and better gigs i realized that i can't keep hauling my cdj's in and out of every spot i played at (especially when the dj booth is elevated above the crowd and/or super small and confined). finally i got myself a set of 1210 m5gs and some digitracks and learned the beauty of relative mode. it's seriously a whole new adventure. not only is it more fun, but you don't have to spend time convincing promoters/club owners that you're a "real" dj anymore...they just automatically take you seriously.....as long as you don't just suck in general.

So you bring your 57 and your 1210's? I would think the CDJ's would be easier. I would keep my CDJ's just for backup if my laptop crashes(even though I have 2 more). The 1210's are nice and I would like to get some, since I never used vinyl. I jumped straight in with CDJ's. What about the 1200mk2's? Are they trash? Seems like alot of people are selling them on ebay. I'm gonna get the 57 asoon as I sell my 400 & SL1(which I kinda of want to keep for back-up as well:)

the 56 is a good back up to the 57SL...
but if you are using SSL and are contemplating a 56, just get into t.he 57SL.
you won't be sorry you did. As far as TT, 1200s or even Numark TTXs are great for scratching. I love the torque on the TTXs nothing compares to it.

yes and no. one of the main reasons i switched to turntables is because most of the bigger clubs will already have them, so all i need to bring is my computer, needles, records, and mixer (if they've got house tables they'll most likely have a house mixer that you can use, but like i said earlier I always bring my own). I try not to bring my own tables out as much as possible, but I bought the 1210's because I figured "if i'm gonna buy tables, i'm gonna get the best ones available". the 1200mk2s are definitely not trash, they're just old. most serious turntable dj's are upgrading to newer models due to updated features, but I know people that've had their 1200mk2s for over 15 years and they're still going strong. i definitely suggest keeping your cdjs because you never know when you might need them (i've still got both pairs cause I have a hard time selling equipment that I don't need), but you should AT LEAST buy yourself a used pair of technics, some quality slipmats, and a set of digitracks to practice at home with so you can become comfortable using turntables if need be.
djmoneyd425
6:46 PM - 27 December, 2007
and yes, it is MUCH easier to use CDJ's when you've already got to bring all of your own equipment with you to do a gig, but if the club's already got equipment in the booth and you've gotta pull it all out so you can set up your cdj's then you've defeated the whole purpose and created MORE work for yourself. i jumped right in with CDJs too because i already had hundreds of cds (i actually learned to mix/match beats on a numark dual cd player), then over time it just made more sense to switch to vinyl. everything is more fun on turntables. it's a little more work to set 'em up, but well worth it.

1200 MK2's or 1200 M3d's are still the industry standard and are still what you are going to see in 90% of Clubs, Bars, and DJ's personal setups (For Tech users). Not much has really changed with turntables to warrant the upgrade. Yes, your M5G's are nice but they are kind of like "bling" looks nice but isn't necessary. If you have the extra coin I guess it's cool but I'd rather save the cash and buy an EFX500 or something. Either way, stick with tech's and you'll be fine. Even if they cost a little more up front it's worth it. The resale value alone will make up the difference you spend up front by at least 2x.

i definitely agree that you should keep your SL1 box if possible...less stuff to carry to the club. PLUS, it's really nice to be able to daisy chain the box to the 57 so you can just switch your inputs and go from laptop to laptop instead of laptop to standard vinyl to laptop when changing djs.
and yes, the 1200mk2s and m3ds are STILL the standard, and generally the m5gs are MOSTLY just bling factor....but i've found that the pitch adjust on my m5gs is WAY more accurate than the mk2s, m3ds, mk5s or any other tech for that matter. there's also much less pitch drift.

Sad thing is I live in a small city Augusta GA. We don't even have any clubs that are that equipped, or even playing more than one dj in a night. I've been playing at the same bar/club for a while now. I just bring my setup and patch into one of his channels on his mixer. I got my SL1 and 400 on Ebay now. when it sells I'm gonna get the 57. But I would feel really bad to keep the SL1($549) and then spend another 12-1400. Then how could I complain when my wife goes shopping!!

because you're spending money to make money, rather than spending money to spend money. do what you gotta do to get yourself a 57, and IF you can figure out a way to keep your SL1 box then do it. DJ to DJ...trust me. You'll understand.

I hate roomates! Mine pushed me to the military! But I'm glad I got up and did something with my life. When I decided to DJ I didn't know about Serato, I just knew I seen allot of guys using CDJ's and the Denon's looked Sexy! Plus I have hundreds of cd's so no brainer right? Well once I got the cdj's organizing a library and playlist was a beast so I thought Serato would be lovely. Now I'm a junkie man, I need a hit man, give me those 1200's, give me that TTM57, now I want the Denon hp1000's, but I'll settle for the sony700's (Ebay item# 260199221474). Don't sleep on the Numark PHX's they are loud but not in an audiophile way, but in a "damn those subs are loud I can still hear my mix with these can's" way! the sony's are great, along with the denons and the technics...i've had them all (on the denons right now). i don't feel like there's that much difference in them. the bass hits a bit harder in the denons, but for the difference in price id just stick with the techs or sonys.

i'm talking headphones...i won't spend less than $120 on headphones.
i've got a set of cdj800s and a set of cdj1000mk3s. I'ved the numarks, but i wouldn't buy anything other than pioneer for digital tables.

i'm waitign for the 400's to be released in north america before i even think of getting cdj's personally....you can spend as much as you want on headphones i believe i got the twenty dollar statons and they've lasted longer hten everyone i knows phones...and work great... sound good... have enough volume to be heard plus both sides work even(although i find having the right side on my left ear is more comfy i think it's that way with all headphones for me tho)
you do what you want...teh sony's and i think the pioneers that have the swivle muffs on em are pretty damn good you can set them to sit however you want them too and they'll saty out the way...
but it's all personal; taste in my opinoin man...but if your going to spend big moneys get soem hifi ones with noise reduction
it's your cash there big money
ball it how you want man...

lol, yeah i'm in the family game now too...my son just turned 8 months yesterday. i'm trying to make sure i've got everything that i'm going to need in the future right now so that i don't have to worry later on. headphones unfortunately always end up needing to be replaced within a year at most anyways tho.
