Ok, maybe this is old news. I have not stayed up on the video lately and since I don't have the 57, I may not be there for a while. I did however find this on Ebay and says they are shipping January 17, 2008: cgi.ebay.com
Is this the real release date now? Mods- have you stated the official release yet?

also, you don't need to buy a $1,500 mixer just to video with virtual vinyl. With Serato, you need to have the TTMSL57 Mixer and the Virtual Vinyl you don't. I have been mixing the videos with the Numark DMC2 Midi Controller and it works just great. If you have a Mac, All you need to buy is the DVI TO VIDEO ADAPTER from APPLE and it only cost $20. you plug it in to the video port next to the firewire port, you get the yellow video or s-cable plug it in to the adapter and then plug the cable into the back of the tv, projector, etc. It's That Simple!!!

It's all about quality and feeling. Simply you can't compare Serato & TTM-57 with VirtualDJ and a MAYA44 (or simular) soundcard.
I have VDJ so I know what im saying. And feeling, Serato is in my mind som much more "real" than VDJ is, specialy when spinning vinyl like I do.
VDJ and video, sure it works but many times the video stall when loading a new track on the other player. That never happens in Serato, and the video plugin is stil in beta...!
I love my TTM57 and Serator 1.8, and I'm sure that will be the same for Video-SL. Sure its lots of money, but "you have to spend mony to make money".

I so feel you on all of the above.
I mean, what "professional" program makes you choose between the quality of your scratching and the latency of it?
+1 for the video stall in VDJ...anything bigger than 100mbs seems like it's gonna crash VDJ when I drop it on the deck...and how come every time I drop a video it has to load all over again? Doesn't build the overfills or whatever like SSL does.

Question: I called a few retailers in my home town and no one is getting the SLV. I'm worried I won't have it on the release date. Does anyone know how it works. Do you need physical package with serial # or can you just go online and purchase and they'll email you a code or something. Please help, if thats the case I need to pre order mine.

it's all gonna be online. Why does everyone think it's gonna be released on the 17th? I know that is when NAMM is happening but is it all based off that ebay auction?

But as there is a buy button in the VSL demo plugin I expect that we can also buy online, just a s/n without the goodies.

so there is no actual hardware requires besides the ttm57,
200 seems a bit steep, and since they have alinenated the sl1 users i can see it being 100$ by summer

alienated? as of late you can tell that the focus of Serato/Rane has been pin pointed to getting it working with the 57. With the recent midi addition in 1.8, they are steps away from from allowing video to work with the SL1. But why would they want to support 2 different mediums until they hammer out all the bugs and get one worthy for production. A soon nearing date by the way.

Yeah, so do you invest in the 57.....or hold off and continue waiting to see what happens? I am a Traktor user, eying up the features that video has to offer. I strictly use a midi-controller - no vinyl or CD emulation. Sure, this is still a lot cheaper then going the full hardware route and buying a set of Pioneers, and the new Pioneer mixer....but still a pretty big investment, having to buy the 57 mixer.
Dj_KaGeN
6:52 PM 8 January 2008
having first hand experience in using the SL1 box with software and still needing midi to control video.. the ALL ENCOMPASSING approach with the fader/crossfader video control and having effects IN THE MIXER wins hands down.. do not kid yourself. The TTM57 will be easier to setup, more powerful, less cables/cords and tax a computer less than trying to integrate all sorts of random shit and taking up a lot space and loosing precious time reaching for knobs on a different unit.

excuse my spelling been a long day, but think about it they have to make it compatible with the sl1 if they want to make a profit or even break even from the R&D, and lets be honest here its going to be plagued with bugs when its released so it going to take a while to be 100% club friendly, so by the time the sl1 version is released most of these bugs should be iorned out,
and since its just using a midi crossfader i dont see why they havent gotten it working on other midi mixers, its a buisness move to move more ttm57's,
when sales from the ttm and video plugin slack, thats when you will see the SL1 version

I think TTM57 registered owners should get a significant discount at release time. It only makes sense to those of us that have not "jumped" on the bandwagon, but rather held it's hand during birth.

To me its too cheep. not everyone is gonna start doing video. there is alot more to it than buying VSL and a bunch of vids. It is very time consuming to get a good video show off the ground.
I think djs that are already doing video are going to benifit from this the most

I just setup my pioneer rig last weekend. There are all kinds of freakin' cables that need to be run and setup takes forever. I have yet to overcome the mess that all that interconnected gear makes in the booth. there is always something i forget to connect.
I think it takes like 20 or 30 wires to complete the setup

haha... TTM57 + 2 [cd's or TT's] that'll be 2RCA's, 1 usb cable, Main Output left and right / monitor left and right and a Video out from the laptop.. Power supply's all round including laptop and possibly another for an external HDD, oh and add that connect cable too. Plug in headphones -->DONE.

Hm, probably you can ask them whether they want to open the box and send you the s/n first. You would have to trust the dealer though... you never know what happens with the s/n. ...

yea thnx nik I would try it cause some reps i deal with are nice like that.
But most of the time the product and sales are in different areas.
I was just wondering if you purchased it directly from them (serato) would they give u ( send in email) the license code along with shipping the box.
vs. buying from pssl and waiting for box to come in and get serial.
that was the actual specific version.
and If its not the case im a go ahead and pre order all ready :)

When i ordered soundforge i ordered the goodies pack to come in the post for an extra £10 and they gave me the serial number for the download straight away, so its certainly done by companies, just whether serato chooses to or not is the question.

Bedroom DJ's stay out of video if you're not willing to pay for it. Want cheap video? Play video games instead.

bedroom dj's complain because they can't recoup that money and it's not worth something they'll only use to show off to their friends....esp if it was $500. but then again, most bedroom djs probably would try to find crackz or something for vsl.

You have to spend money to get money.
I have a perfect working rigg (Pioner DVJ-X1, Edirol v4, 800 mixer and so on) but I'm also spinning vinyl on Serato. I like the vinyl so much I got me a new MacBook Pro (even that I have a new working PC laptop) and a Rane TTM57 (I have SLL box)
Why, it cost a lot of $$$. Yes but I'm a pro DJ/VJ and I like to work on good "tools" not some plactic once from toys'r'us.
DJ's (what ever kind) will still buy VirtualDJ, but we are a few pro's that know why we choose Serato.
Thanks!
