What is YOUR favorite transition record??????

Steve Dub. 1:54 AM 21 December 2007
Most of us carry records in our bag in order to switch with another dj in the middle of a set, what is your favorite transition record and why?

Mine is Be Faithful, always works and I don't have to worry about mixing it in.
Caramac 8:53 AM 21 December 2007
So far I've not had to change set ups with someone whilst using Serato, but it'd probably be something like Beenie Man - Dude.
bandoma 10:15 AM 21 December 2007
yeah party break by the holla boyz

we gonna start this shit off right!
a-swift 10:17 AM 21 December 2007
most of you have seen my transition with either N.O.R.E. - Nothin or the Goodies break with Fatman sccop a million times. So I guess those always stay in the bag. Those be the favorites.

Speaking of which, does anyone have an extra VINYL copy of Be Faithful they can give or sell me??? Mine is so messed up I can't even use it anymore.
sixxx 5:20 PM 21 December 2007
I usually don't have a need to use vinyl cause I'm usually playing solo. But I have Sean Paul's Temperature in my case.

I used to carry more in case something went wrong but at the club they have cd's all ready to go, so I put a mix cd in there just in case.
The Infamous OJ 5:34 PM 21 December 2007
Steve, I got 6 brand new copies of Be Faithful. Let me know when you wanna come by and grab one. It's a must-have transition record.

Nah... I found a stack at turntable lab and bought thm cause I know I've already gone through 2 copies. I have had that record in my bag since it came out.

That's my alltime favorite transition record... second in line is "hands up in da club" that I have 3 copies of along with the one in my bag that has some cue burn.

Nothing like "Beewwwwwwwww... GET YO DAMN HANDS UP!!!" to get a crowd hyped.

agreed, I forgot about the buko record, that's one I prefer to keep at home since I only have once copy, I wasn't thinking like OJ back when I bought it, actually I bought it waay before I even had serato.

I also carry Fatman Scoop and DJ Kool - It Takes Two, and some other AV8 that I never use, I think it's a Ludacris - Southern Hospitality break.
DVDjHardy 8:43 PM 21 December 2007
I agree with these -

Hollaboyz - Show Me Love
Crooklyn Clan - Be Faithful
DJ Kool/Fatman Scoop - It Takes 2 Remix
Usher - Yeah (My remix)
Kanye - Gold Digger (2nd Nature Remix)
2pac - California Love

I personally use this one more than anything -

MIMS - This Is Why I'm Hot (DJ Godfather Remix)

I've only had Serato for a little over a year. I've had that Buko Breaks record forever too. I saw that I was using it a lot so I picked up a few re-releases a while back. I think I got lucky on that one.

what are you fuckin stupid, jk dude

its just when you have 2 djs and you have to switch out lap tops, you just throw a record on, or it could be a song that starts out at one bpm and then smoothly goes to another bpm.

then what makes it a "transition record"? so is it just any song cuz alot of songs change bpms?

In the context of this thread, transition record means what you play while switching laptops. In a broader sense, it means what you play to move between genres and/or bpm ranges...

Yeah, I used the word transition because 2 DJ's are transitioning, but a transition song can also be used the other way, anyway, stop making it more difficult than it is lol.

L.L. Cool J - Headsprung

Snoop Dogg - Gin & Juice
Dr. Dre - Nothin But A G Thang

Billy think about DJ Felli Fel's "Get Buck In Here" and how it slows down in BPM's towards the end (around 3:25).

That would be a Transition Record in the simple sense.

Caramac 9:36 AM 27 December 2007
I never use records like that, that slow or speed up in BPM. If anything I'll just use a big tune from a certain range and go from there.
DJBlisk 6:16 PM 27 December 2007
My favorite Transition Record is DJ Kuya's "yeah" break.

I haven't seen anybody with it. Even most of the bigger dudes I've spun haven't seen it either.
The Real DJ Maestro 6:34 PM 6 January 2008
Favorite Transition if i am switching with another dj is dead air.... i talk and say I'm done for the night here's the loser the promoters brought to kill the night. Nah, i usually play solo, and if i had to switch depending on what bpm range i am in. But most DJ's that wanna play with me aint even on Serato yet which is amazing to me. Why would u wanna carry books and books of cd's

the phil Collins thing is hillarious. Also why would u have 6 be faithful records?
The Infamous OJ 5:14 AM 7 January 2008
Isn't the fact that I have an extra one for S-Dub reason enough? How long have you been DJing? How many records did you wish you bought more of when you had the chance?
stevie o 5:18 AM 7 January 2008
been djin for 14 years sir. I never wished i bought six of anything except beer.
The Real DJ Maestro 6:08 PM 7 January 2008
6 copies thats pure stupidity of one record, especially that record... I know U like it but dude 6 copies, 4 the most 2 doubles and thats about it. But whatever ya vice is more power to u. Yeah i dunno why would u still be on cd's..... Thats like so 2004, pre serato. I gave up all my cd's despite me sometimes using CDJ's to spin with, I don't even carry back up cd's cuz i never have problems ( Knock on wood ).
But Cd's are dated, if u wanna use them go right ahead. But u will be left in the dust
Steve Dub. 7:27 PM 7 January 2008
I had one slot left in my UDG record sleeve and added Crooklyn Clans "chooze one" last night, that's another good record to start your set with.
DJ GaFFle 10:06 PM 7 January 2008
Mentirosa (Ying Yang feat. Pitbull). This track faithfully takes me from midtempo anything to the uptempo stuff without fail. Also provides a good transition to uptempo dancehall.
stevie o 10:20 PM 7 January 2008
Gaffle call me a doosh if I'm wrong but isnt the ying yang song called shake?...also
the real dj maestro.. I was gonna write the same exact paragraph about the 6 records and the cd players. I have a confession.( this should have been in the dj confession thread). For approximately a year I used denon 3500 cause I just needed a switch from vinyl. I have to admit I felt like a hack and a wavie. Even all my friends were calling me push and play. Thanks god rane serato came out. I threw those evil machines away and jumped right back into vinyl.

Yeah, you're right...I've got it tagged as Shake (Mentirosa). Regardless, that joint always works for me.
The Infamous OJ 12:54 AM 8 January 2008
Well... The Real DJ Maestro and steve o. You guys must be awesome DJ's. You've never scratched a record by mistake? You've never gone looking for a record and found that it was out of print? You've never had a record warp on you? You've never seen anything on sale and thought you may need a backup copy or two? Maybe it's because at the time steve o "needed a switch from vinyl," he stopped buying records and started downloading his music to CD's.

I think it's kind of rude for you both to call me stupid for having a backup of something that I use as a professional. And I don't use CD's. I carry extra control records, extra headshells with cartridges and stylus mounted. I keep my mixer in my truck just in case the club I'm playing at doesn't have Serato or has a shit mixer. I carry regular vinyl so that I can switch with another DJ. One record that I play everytime I switch is "Be Faithful." Call me stupid. I'd prefer to call it being prepared.

Let me ask you something... do you spin with vinyl control records or with CD's? Do you have a backup? If you found control records for $5 each, would you buy them? Don't ASSume shit. You don't know me.
DJ_Motion 1:03 AM 8 January 2008
^^^ Im with you on this... I have a few copies of records of my favorite dj's...

7 to be exact.. There were only 32 made and I got lucky to have copped 7 of those 32...

There's nothing wrong with being prepared.
nik39 1:03 AM 8 January 2008
I also got a few records which I have 5 or 6 times. Some Gang Starr 12"'s. 2 for backspinning, two to keep them sealed ... and another two to have backups for the two backspinning ones.
stevie o 1:33 AM 8 January 2008
hey infamous im not an awesome dj. matter of fact i suck. i just dont know why u would need six records thats all. two ok 3 fine but 6 of the same means your playin the same song way too much. but whatever i could care less what u do know that i think of it. buy 100 records of the same track if u want, more money for the dying record stores. thats a charity im down to support.

Yes I have had major melt downs with my vinyl....... I switch it up from vinyl to cd, on the road its strictly vinyl looks more impressive, and people respect vinyl, but yes i still cut it up on my CDJ's. And yes i am a great dj, but 6 thats alot of back up, but everybody has they own vice on how they dj and how many back up they have. Its all opinions family don't get all bent out of shape.
stevie o 10:58 PM 10 January 2008
^and yes I am a great dj^^^^
Thats some confident talk. I believe you
tommy tea 1:12 AM 11 January 2008
Eric B and Rakim - Paid In Full (Coldcut 7 Minutes Of Madness Remix)! It's VERY long, the samples at the begining are cool, the bassline is awesome and Rakim rhymes are top...when they eventually come in. Can't go wrong!
djquinn 8:28 AM 11 January 2008
I always request at least one CDJ, run that through the aux input (if the mixer is a 56 or 57, which it usually is) then drop a mix cd. That way, If whoever is going on after, or if I'm going on after, then there's more than enough time to make the switch and set up accordingly, blah blah blah. A CD case with 2 or 3 cds hardly takes up any space and has many tracks to choose from... As far as what tracks, it depends on what music came b4... maybe the crowd isn't trying to hear fat man scoop at that very moment.... but if they are, i got some party breaks, etc.
DJ Autograph 1:44 PM 11 January 2008
I use let Me Clear My Throat or Be Faithful.

And as said before different strokes for different folks. I would see why 6 copies of that record make sense. It's his main transition record, He does not use CD's and he DJ's a lot. Chances of him fucking up a copy are that much greater. No need to call him stupid though. I have a few joints I wish I bought more copies of. Oh well.
