i know there are some of you using serto video & lion with no problem.
but for me it's not working well, i have a mid 2011 october model macbook pro with lion, in the words of steve dub "crash city crash crash city" big time crashes
now i go to my old 15 inch macbook pro pre unibody with leopard & it works perfect, i even go to my 13 inch macbook pro with snow leopard & again it works perfect
than i go back to my new 15 inch macbook pro with lion & crash after crash, for this reason i'm saying serato video & lion do not play well together
i will be downgrading this mac as soon as i get my hands on a snow leopard disc with 10.6.6 or later, that the only way to downgrade this machine

i've done some reading online, theres a lot of conflicting info if a 2011 lion mbp can be downgraded to snow leopard. seems that mbp's shipped with lion may not be able to downgrade. let me know the progress....i wouldnt mind downgrading my mbp to snow leopard

I *think* one should be able to clone an existing Snow Leopard installation (10.6.8) from an earlier-model MacBook Pro onto a current-model MacBook Pro. You would then want to re-apply the **COMBO UPDATE** of 10.6.8 to be sure all needed software resources for the newer hardware are added.
If one were to attempt this, it would be very wise to do the Snow Leopard cloning onto a different hard drive than what came with the newer MBP, so correct operation can be tested/verified before. Fortunately, the recent MPB's are all easy to open and change out drives.

I my max had lion on it.
I then formatted the drive and used carbon copy to copy my older mac with snow 10.6.8 and made it bootable. Took it out the case and put back in my newer macbook pro and bam I was good to go.
Updated and been on it since last year. I was thinking of going to lion but I guess not.

Do you have one of the "Late 2011" model MacBook Pros?
The question here is whether or not Snow Leopard will run on those particular machines (the current models at this time).
Since the current hardware is only a minor "speed bump" of the previous "Early 2011" MacBook Pros that came out before Lion was released (no major hardware/mainboard revisions), my guess is they would run the 10.6.8 version of Snow Leopard...but I've yet to see that verified.

from what i've gathered by googling, 2011 mbp's that came with Lion cant downgrade to Snow Leopard. Some 2011 mpb's came with Snow Leopard, some folks upgraded to Lion and was able to downgrade back to Snow Leopard.

That's the only way I suspect Snow Leopard would work with the still-current "Late 2011" MacBook Pros. I don't think any Snow Leopard installer disc in existence will boot these machines, but as I said before they're really just a minor speed-bump of the "Early 2011" MBP's so I would expect that a transplanted or cloned 10.6.8 install would work fine...as you seem to be confirming here.
I'd definitely advise running the 10.6.8 Combo Update after doing that, just to be certain all relevant drivers are correctly installed. Otherwise certain hardware functions may be "not quite right".

I was having issues like this with just regular serato and lion. Playing video files but not having video SL open. This was before I updated to the newest serato and serato video.

Sorry guys, this is just wrong. I'm not going to downgrade to an older operating system because a BRAND NEW plugin released in April 2012 won't work with my OS, that has been available since July 2011. That's absolutely insane. It should just work.

well guess what it's not working with lion for me, it's crashing left & right.....i'm playing videos right now & it's smooth, the same vidz were crashing in lion, perfect in snow leopard
i don't care if the osx is older i need it to work, i want to have piece of mind when i go to a gig, not a newer osx
so far so good with snow leopard, will keep you guys posted ;)

I can now confirm:
An OS X 10.6.8 install cloned from a "Mid-2010" 17" MacBook Pro will boot a "Late 2011" 17" MacBook Pro and seems to work fine.
Just to be clear, the newer MBP came with 10.7.2 installed. Tested by booting from a Firewire-connected drive.

Just did a prom last night. 2 hour set up with truss lights and tvs. Decided to look for updates to serato the night before and noticed I was eligible for a serato video update. Output window worked while I was putting together a playlist without my ttm57 hooked up, But guess what didn't work when I was at my gig! Embarrassing wish I never updated. running os x 10.6.8 cant find com.seratovideo.plist.locke file that needs to be deleted.

I thought this was fairly self-evident from what I wrote.
If you're asking what cloning software I use, it's SuperDuper. CarbonCopyCloner would work just as well for that purpose.

i'm looking to do the same thing, i just need to order a new harddrive. luckily, swapping the hd's on the new mbps are simple, so i can experiment with this new snow leopard setup and if its sketchy, i can just drop my lion harddrive back in and go to my gig.

My Macbook pro 2.2 quadcore i7 with 8 gigs of ram, 1 gig Radeon 6750 & 256 gig Solid state Hd came with Lion Osx. I had to remove the HD and install it into another macbook pro unibody previous model so i can install Snow Leopard. Once you install the OS, You have to install the updates from online. It will update the drivers for the Macbook pro that was running on Lion. Try updating twice back to back to make sure you get everything.

Cool. Just in case anyone missed this other thread: serato.com
I would have been shocked to hear that the 15-inch "Late 2011" model behaved any differently than the 17-inch "Late 2011" with 10.6.8, but good and useful to see that confirmed.
The one "bugaboo" I've found with this hardware (nothing to do with the OS version) is that if you use an adapter bracket for a second hard drive to go instead of the optical, it CANNOT be a SATA-3 drive (6gb/sec). SATA-2 (3gb/sec) drives work fine there. So my SATA-3 OCZ Vertex 3 had to go in the normal hard drive bay and the WD 1tb into the optical bay bracket.
Supposedly OS X 10.7.4 update should be out soon...maybe that will help with the Lion issues. www.appleinsider.com

Well DJ Nyce thanks for the confirmation. I was told initially that it would come with Snow Leopord and when I started it up it was OS LION . I am not computer savy as some of you here, so with that $1500 dollars for a machine that may have issues with Serato, was be a concern for me.
But with your post guess I will be keeping it. Thanks again.
PS, is Snow LION a mis quote or a hybrid OS?

Hi Vio0633,
Hold the ALT button during startup of your Mac. Insert OSX Snow Leopard disc and wait till its icon appears. Then choose this disk in boot options. You will get the startup screen for MAC OSX Snow Leopard installation.
Load Disk Utility from the menu bar (in top of screen) and format your disk first. Then fresh install Snow Leopard.
Do this AFTER you backed up your disk and files completely! Use "Time Machine" AND a backup tool like "Super Duper" so you are absolutely safe.
Good luck.
