I'm curious what kinda mixer they use for the upstairs set up. I look at their site and it says they use a DENON DN D4000 MIXER but when i googled it it comes up as being CD players. Soo if anyone knows and would like to share...i would appreciate it.

I was the resident there for 2 years. If they have the same stuff (which im positive they do) they have 2 ancient 1200's, some denon cd rack players and a huge Rane Mojo 4 channel mixer with a bleeding fader. Good luck lol.

Isn't it amazing, a famous place like that and they have a crap set up. It just goes to show you.

hahaha Intro-steen. Hey steve i remember talk to you about viper room b4. I'm usually in the lounge using my stuff when im spinning there. But this saturday they are having hip hop groups there and want me to spin in between their sets.

Looks like I got my work cut out for me. Lets hope i could get serato to work that nite. If it doesnt...I always bring vinyl with me.

Yeah I had to learn to spin with one turntable there back when I first got serato, they eventually fixed the rca's though.

well thats good to hear. I'm sure ill deal with the bleeding fader if they still have the same mixer. I've rocked a crowd with worse equipment. hahaha

why not bring your gear and just hook it up to one of the mixer's inputs? (piggy back). Or is there not enough room in the booth for this?

Not enough room in the booth bri. He would have to unhook everything and the booth is/was a MESS. Otherwise I would have done that every week but it's just not a booth I would want to mess with, ahhhh im gonna have nightmares tonight about that booth ha ha!

Haha thanks for the positive feedback Steve. Its just one nite...and since i'm only gonna be spinning off n on the whole nite....shouldnt be a big deal. I dont even know if the groups performing there that nite are HIP HOP or RAP. I went to see their names on the viper room calender online and I've never heard of em.

yeah you don't even really need to mix, hard to get people to dance in 15min increments.

i got ya man. I just dunno if do heavy sets of lil jon...curtis...justin timberlake etc. Or sets of J Dilla...Murs...Little brother etc. I guess I'll find out when i meet up the groups and promoters. I'll be ready either way.

yeah, some crowds I used to get where "hood" crowds where I would drop alot of westcoast classics and the other crowds were "hip-hop" crowds where you can play tribe, dilla, pharcyde...... but I almost NEVER had to drop top40 which was nice.

Yo steve....if youre still around...just wanna let you know they finally changed the mixer. Its now a Denon DN-X500. Still didnt make my job any easier...ahhaha. First, Its been YEARS since i deejayed with turntables in the reg OG positon. and its been a while since i used a 4 channel mixer. The mixer wasnt without its downfalls tho. The cue buttons just wouldnt...CUE!!! hahaha. I had to play with them as if they were a girl's BUTTON....if you know what i mean. My girl was laughin at me the whole nite...ahhaha! Their was no bleeding of the cross fader...but when rack mixers like that...and since i couldnt really skratch....i tend to just use the channel faders to mix.

Overall it was a good nite. They wouldnt keep my volume up that high which kinda pissed me off...cause the people were really feeling me. Also their was a group performing that was with the BLOODS. Gangstas usually dont scare me, but this foo brought at least 30 of em to the club. A group like that, that has been drinkin as well...not a good combo. But everything worked out.

Would I ever spin the upstairs viper room again? If they call...i wouldnt turn it down...but i prob wouldnt call them. hahaha!

I do this every friday and I make it work very well.

As a side note: it's only 15 minutes sometimes 10 for the lead singer of a band to get a drink and rest his voice or whatever they do .. but my homies always challenge me to play a certain amount of songs.. Im up to 31 songs in 15 minutes....

As for the booth, at my old spot I used to have to put 2 cd jewel cases under one of the right turn tables legs, they had them on cynder? blocks... one table was higher than the other by one block and the mixer was lower than both tables.. That was a crappy situation! Good luck homie!

Dang Motion thats a drag. I've been spinning for over 11 years and have my share of stories using bad equipment or gigs from hell. Everything from using a discman that kept skipping for debu's (i know i didnt spell it right...when a filipino female turns 16) and having my deejay set up on a coffee table!

I dont really consider last nites gig a BAD GIG. I was only worried cause I've heard horror stories about the viper room's set up from steve here and others from the promotion group. But they finally changed the mixer....not to a brand new one..but it worked well. Even after hooking up my serato box I was expecting to wrestle with wires and calibrating it for like 30min...nope. I hooked it up and all was well.

The only main problem that nite was the fact that im sick! I got the flu early last week and last night was the 4th nite in a row I deejayed...and the second night i spun in hollywood. I was actually considering canceling last nite. I just couldnt get into the DEEJAY MODE I like to get into b4 a gig. It didnt kick it till the last min.

Now I could finally relax and get better...And i need it too! IVE LOST 4 LBS! Probably from working hard at my 9 to 5 and stress and being sick and all. Thank god I have the next week n a half off from work. and I dont have to spin till wednesday....but they say i dont have to go in if i dont want too....its prob gonna be dead.
