Love the set. Super clean.
Something rather amusing about you performing a set with the latest computer technology and winning... a DVJ.

Not to bust ur balls Jay, but was nothing special about your DJ performance except prepared video edits.
Dj Crime last year was light years ahead from this. I expect some transitions with scratching and video moves according to scratching and backspinning.
Sorry, but it's just my 2c. I don't know what other DJ/VJ's were like.
Still congrats, wish you much success!!

Be great to see a new category for freestyle video mixing.

HELL YES!!!
i wonder how many people watching know those tracks? i am sure for many it was the first time ever hearing them.
as a dj, that used to play a lot of b-boy events, i LOVED the set.
unlike man of the sets from last year, it was not pre-overproduced at all. it's refreshing.
anybody know who the judges were this year?

I think that was a brave set. Brave because you were taking a risk by not doing overproduced, effects-overloaden preproduced million snippets.
It was also musically pleasing! Sounded like a b-boy battle sound track :)
Good work.

Thanks everyone for the support, and the support of my crew SCREENWERKS. I hate to see people bad mouthing other video djs, This is such a small culture to be bad mouthing each other. I'm just doing my thing and doing my part to help the video dj community be bigger and to help shed more light onto this art form. I give props to ALL video DJs in believing in this art form. Hope to see screens in every venue.

What's up with all that fingerpointing? You don't have to be better to criticize someone.
So if Dave Jam doesn't like [insert DJ name here]'s set, then the topic is [insert DJ name here]'s set - not Dave Jam's set.

I think Dave Jam was very respectful in his comment Jay, and to flame him like that is a bit out of order.
If anything you should link to the DJ Crime set he mentioned, not one of his. Having watched both online I did prefer your set, but that's not the point really.

Exactly. It's just my taste and I stated my opinion respectfully.
I know how much time and effort you've put in and I can see why u got upset.
You came a long way to here, you should be proud of yourself and don't mind the small talk.
Your set was clean and all, but this kind of set is what makes me excited.

that shit was so gangster Jay.
I knew someone from the SW crew would do some wild shit.
I do think in the future, there should be 2 battles.
an editors battle/showcase
a non editors battle
lets face it... some of the best video DJs, who arent great editors dont stand a chance in hell
against some of of the editors we know and love.
Im not sure, but isnt the DMC doing something simular?

That would be good, but there would have to be some guidelines as to what is considered an edit. Would a vid with an intro/outro be considered an edit?
I think DMC did add a new category for people using a DVS.

for the non-editor it would be wild I think if they put a camera on the screen and did a Picture in Picture on the master display so everyone could see what's going down on their interface.

They had 2 different battles, one for Visual Artists and one for Video DJs, but I love the idea Josh, the problem I forsee is that the organization of the battle in full was sloppy and not only that, they had this massive sound system and no one could turn it up. Wouldve sounded louder with 2 k12s (seriously). And WMC peeps were on Promo Only's jock, which shows they are NOT in the know and have no idea.

what really are the rules tho? is it like a redbull challenge?
what makes a great video dj?
his own edits?
the way he puts it together?
the music he selects?
the videos he selects?
creativity?
his scratching abilities?
his mixing abilities?
shouldnt there be a a little of the official music video in the sets?
or is it gonna be a poplularity contest?
or is it gonna be like the MTV music video awards and u just get the "win" cuz ur song rocks but nor ur video? which is it?
i seen some dj contests where good djs didnt even place but the guy dating the manager won cuz he knows how to fuck a bitch. ha
i mean dvdj crush won last year. hes one bad muthafucker. but did he really win? i have yet to see the video form the contest.
shouldnt it be based on ur peers, a peoples vote and so on?

I would have given Costik more points in some categories over Jay-E. Totally different sets, but both very creative. Almost a tie on my score card.

Yup, that's what I was thinking too. I actually liked Costik's better by just a hair just from watching both while at work - but I'd have to re-watch both carefully to REALLY make a serious call. Both were bananas, and light years beyond anything I could do at this point for sure lol. ScreenWerks brought it SUPER hard this year!

Wow, very very nice too, on a different level. Turntable wise - excellent.
Personally I don't like to see a million movie snippets - it's just too much for me, too many different views, changes, setups etc. Towards the end it got better IMHO.
Overall, also very impressive! Good werk! :)

THANK YOU all for your positive comments... We're not concerned with competition placement, we just want to do our part in pushing the envelope of the video dj culture... We both knew that each of our sets were on different ends of the spectrum... That was the point, we wanted to cover everything and show that there is nothing we can't do.. At the end of the day, all of your positive comments mean more to us... So thank you again and we're looking forward to continuing this journey with you all...

I like the idea of separate editors battle and a turntablists battle. Maybe the turntablists could have a standard 50 or so edits to choose from, so everyone is using the same videos. Then the creativity and skills would shine from one dj to the next.

These are great. And Costiks set is prob the best video set I've seen BUT what I don't like about these is the fact that you can't see what parts are pre-edited and what they are actually doing.
We need full camera view on the decks while watching these to tell what's edited and what the DJ is actually doing live.
Either way great sets fellas.

but it would be awesome to see what they are doing the screen, the mixer and the tables all at once!!
