Hi,
I'm a student in DKIT in Ireland studying a MSc in Music Technology. For my final project I'm planning on creating a DJ-related Max for Live plugin. I was wondering is it possible to create a plug-in that would work with Ableton/Serato's The Bridge through Max/Max for Live? I'd be really interested in having a private discussion on this issue. Who would be the best person to talk to about this?
Regards,
Keith

Hi thisisdjkaz,
Sounds like a cool project! We do not currently have any officially supported methods for integrating 3rd party software with our products. Whilst some independant developers have integrated various plugins and prototypes with our software none of them are officially supported.
If you are interested in getting data out of our software during performance the best method is to use Serato Video and Quartz Composer on a mac, Quartz Composer is able to translate data from the software into OSC and other protocols.
Serato Video Product Information is here

Further information, documentation and forum discussion about Quartz Composer support is here serato.com

Mathew

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for your reply!
Isn't The Bridge an example of a 3rd party software integrated into one of your products? Ableton Live would be considered a 3rd party software, wouldn't it? I'm not sure you understand what I'm trying to actually do! Max for Live is supported in Ableton Live and I was wondering if I could develop something in Max for Live for The Bridge. I tweeted Ableton/Serato (can't remember which) last year inquiring about implementing Max for Live into The Bridge and got a reply which would have suggested that there is already plans for it?

Keith

I'm not aware of any plans - I'll let the development team know. Has Ableton offered any opinion here?

I haven't talked to Ableton as of yet. Can you put me in touch directly with the Bridge development team please?

Thanks for the reply Matthew. I'm a little curious. Would it be possible to talk to you or someone privately about this issue please?

Hi Kaz,
If you want to use Max for Live whilst using the Bridge this is possible right now. Max for live works as it works when running standalone except that Ableton Lives transport is able to be controlled from Scratch Live.
You don't get any additional info in Max for Live when running The Bridge but it will work. So you can create a Max for Live plugin that is specifically designed for your workflow with the Bridge.
The best way to get additional information into Max for Live would be to use Serato Video and pass OSC messages to your Max for Live plugin using Quartz Composer. This would give you information like track name, artist, BPM, frequency analysis etc.
Hope that helps
Dylan
