Hello Serato Team,
I have several products that use Scratch Live and Itch. SL-1, NS7, NS6, and Allen & Heath Xone DX. I've been slightly concerned for a while about some of the quality of the physical hardware on 2 of my 4 units. I think the Allen & Heath unit really needs pitch faders not knobs. Also the main faceplate is not secured enough to the main circuit board. It's held together by a few flimsy plastic clips. I've since sold my A&H as it just couldn't take the standard road use. And things felt jammed too close together. I just couldn't' get use to the unit.
My NS6...It's a bit of a let down. The downers:
* The XLRs are mounted 90 degrees rotated to the left. The release button should be at 12 o"clock. This should be a simple fix.
* The power cable is a cheesy lil' thing. Numark should use the same heavy duty computer style cable like on the NS7.
* It would be great to have the microphone inputs on a separate channel not shared with audio. It could be a simple as 2 small knobs on the front of the unit (same area as the NS7)
* 1/4" mic inputs? Why not use the hybrid XLR-1/4" Neutrik connectors. The NS6 Channel 4 mic input died on me after 4 months of ownership. 4 Months old and it's already in the shop? Not good. But to Numark's credit they are repairing it under warrantee.
* Hard buttons...Yuck! I wish it had the soft buttons like the NS7. On those marathon club gigs soft buttons keep your fingertips happy.
* I miss the integrated laptop stand that the NS7 has, but I understand why. The NS6 is light. The weight of a laptop would make the unit topple over.
Now that I think about it, the NS7 would be perfect if it had a few of the great features of the NS6 like:
* The integrated Beat Grid buttons
* 4 channels of mixing with headphone cue buttons rather than headphone fader
* EFX build into the unit (same AB button assignment as NS6) not as bolt on
* Volume meter for each channel with a separate L&R Master meter
* AND A HANDLE ON THE LONG END OF THE CASE.
I love Serato software, I have no desire to use Traktor, VDJ, etc. I hope you can fwd my input to the correct department at Numark who can take feedback and provide it to the product manager for the NS6 & NS7.
