Video-SL or Serato Video?

I'm trying to find out if I should stick with VSL or update to Serato Video? What is really the difference between the two? I've read it's pretty much nothing different. I use 2.2.0 with SL1 and have had no issues using VSL for bout 2 yrs now. I'm scared to update cuz I don't want my videos to get corrupted. Should I update? And is SV more stable? I'd like to hear from both users of VSL & Serato Video. Thanks!

I would update to Serato Video. it's a new platform and when more updates come along you don't wont to be left behind. Keep in mind that it would require you to upgrade to SSL 2.4.1.
Also SSL 2.3.3. fixed some major issues for video so even if you stay with video-sl i would suggest you upgrade to that.
And as far as changes between video-sl and serato video there are a few UI and technical changes but no functional ones.
p.s. if you do upgrade to 2.3.3 or higher re-analyze your entire library

DJ Tecniq...here's the best thing about this...you can have both versions on the same system. VSL will work with anything below 2.4, and Serato Video works with 2.4 and above.
I anticipate much more development with Serato Video however, so whenever you are ready to move up to a version 2.4 and above, Serato Video will be there for you.

Awesome! thanks for the replies however how is 2.4.1? I've been so stuck on 2.2.0 and heard all the tragic stories about upgrading. I always analyze my entire library including audio and video..are u saying that It's recommended to still analyze using 2.4.1? I want to make sure I do it right the first time so I can avoid any corruption issues. And I'm curious if Serato Video uses more memory than VSL?

2.3.3 was a major change with mp4 tag writing. so if you upgrade to 2.3.3 and higher, yes you would need to re-analyze your library.
so far serato video doesn't appear to use any more resources than Video-SL. i'm still testing to see if it's about the same or less.

awesome news. I'm not going to upgrade just yet but I def will be testing it at home with 2.4.1 and Serato Video. It's only a beta correct? Do u know how soon when we see an official release?

...
see that totally contradicts what another user is saying in a different thread.
from what i recall they said they play in 2.4 but analyze in 1.9.2.
i asked if i could just go from 192 >2.4 without analyzing and they confirmed it. that does not seem correct at all.
i will believe, nyce.

i wish i could find the post there are so many. the gist of it is: tagging was changed in 2.3.3. to take advantage of the new changes, you would have to re-analyze all mp4, .m4a, .aac and mov files. and the changes wouldn't be seen in earlier versions.
i think if you want to use 2.3.3 and up, it's in your best interest to re-analyze in 2.3.3 and up to utilize this new mpeg4 metadata functionality.

What you do is install 2.3.3 or 2.4.0 or 2.4.1
Then you goto your music folder serato folder then Rename the Metadata folder to something else (Metadata_OLD)
Then open 2.3.3/2.40/2.41
Then highlight all your file and delete the bpm and delete for all videos. OR you can use a tag you dont use like the remixer tag column and just type a 1 then save for all files.
This seems to update the id3tags. strange but works.
Then just reanalyze you hole library. its best to do it crate by crate incase it crashes.
now all files will have the new tagging format saved.
note you will have lost tags cue point loops ect by doing this.
but all files will now be analyzed and not write tags on eject.

If you go to 2.3.3 without re-anaylizing you could run the risk of having drops out if nothing else.. that happened to me.. The files are read differently in 2.3.3 then older version. I didn't it and since then nothing has went wrong

2.3.3. (maybe even a prior version i can't remember) introduced some changes on how tags where written.
when you upgrade to 2.3.3+ you'll want to re-analyze your entire library so that your files are taking advantage of the changes.
of course there are other features/bug fixes that you gain when you upgrade as well.

yep, if you do not reanalyze you run the risk of major dropouts and some people have even crashed.
