Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

8th wonder subscribers, it's time to start Bitching loudly!

Holden Caulfield 7:31 AM - 15 March, 2012
The downloader has been broken for nearly 3 damn years..

they simply say to use the website to download. One file at a time? really?

I believe this is an attempt to stifle the downloading of tons of files at once. They say it's not, but come on, my little sister could code a downloader, and she's computer illiterate.

I find it impossible to keep up with their content without a downloader.

I'm still grandfathered in at the original price, which is the only reason I keep it.

We should all start e-mailing 8th wonder and complaining about the downloader.

They say no one else has complained about the downloader not working. Am I really the only one?

Can I get you to join my wide scale complaint session?

Tell everyone you know who uses 8th wonder.

Send at least one e-mail complaint about the downloader being broken for nearly 3 years.

Maybe losing their customer base would wake them up!

Thanks!

Its a portal to vj pro, just with some more information regarding what we do at Smashvision etc

All good! In regards to 8th wonder, you get what you pay for. Bottom line. The last time I used 8th wonder (over a year and a half ago), I had a crash from a bad file that I downed from them. That was the final straw before I realized that I will never put my trust in a service with such variations of encoding, random qualities and poor customer service.

let's just say 8th was a good site for videos...what would be the purpose in stifling dloads?
and with the dlaoder could it be due to the browser you are using? firefix comes out with updates and a ricockulous pace, maybe they can not keep up.

Not that it really matters (and I see the original poster has stayed true to his usual pattern of never bothering to acknowledge replies), but what is so hard about downloading individual files anyway?

Or is 8th actually limiting users to one download at a time? Can't start another download before the first one finishes?
Holden Caulfield 3:24 AM - 16 March, 2012
DJ Mark,

Did you actually read the fucking replies?

I'm a professional. I work for a living running a production company, I don't sit on the forums all day and make retarded replies to other people's posts.

I don't respond to wise assed replies.

Point out one other response besides Jack Millz that was worth even acknowledging.

Jack most likely knows that I was a smash Vidz subscriber for several years. I just wasn't getting content that I personally needed. Period. So I dropped it.

You don't know shit about me, my business, what I do, or who for. I'm not here to gain your approval. I could give a flying fuck what anyone thinks. Anyone who knows me knows that.

There is nothing hard about downloading individual files. However, If I want to stay up to date with current releases, I don't want to sit there for 8 hours downloading tracks. I like to cue up a pile and roll.

I've got better things to do.

And as for quality of videos, they are not always the best, but I've also downloaded tracks that crashed Serato from Smashvids. They usually fix them, but they're not immune.

I actually am checking out VJ-Pro.

If anyone else posts an intelligent reply, I'd be happy to respond.
phatbob 4:09 AM - 16 March, 2012
Most of the replies you received were actually rather light-hearted attempts to suggest that perhaps 8th Wonder isn't a great choice.

Nobody actually called a you rude dickhead who doesn't care about the quality or legality of his sources, did they?
Holden Caulfield 4:26 AM - 16 March, 2012

It's an email blast that comes out weekly and they are some of the top video editors that give out their video edits for FREE as a promotional source. Alot of good material come from these emails. Including Acapella Out video edits, dirty/clean, transitions, segways, and overall quality.

Hey Millz,

Ive been djin for 11yrs and just started doin video last year... so im tryin to learn as much as i can about the ins and outs of professional vjing. ive been spinning videos the same as i do audio, but ive seen alot of you video veterans' mixes and am very impressed. i want to bump my skills to the next level.
as far as proper encoding, can you shed some light on what proper and improper encoding is in general? and the difference in perfomance when using improperly encoded video files? bcuz i keep seeing this come up in the video discussions. like dj tecniq said, to the average person, improperly encoded files look and play just fine and how can someone who has no in depth knowledge be able to tell what is and isnt properly encoded.

thanx.

I will chime in on this. 8thwonder actually has alot of "rare" edm video edits that smashvids doesn't. They also have alot of acapella in & out video edits unlike SV. Some of there videos from 8th are garbage quality but not all. I've found that M Class, John Cha, DJ 818, Will Styles are all good quality edits..Some may disagree but if your a subscriber of 8thwonder you really have to filter through the garbage files in order to find the good stuff. It is a good "cheap" solution for a VJ just getting started but if you want to take it further then I do suggest either SmashVids or Xtendamix cuz they are always putting out quality edits.
popnwave 7:14 PM - 17 March, 2012
Guys just like you can find white label records from some shops and not others. There are many custom edits that aren't approved by the powers that be (ie record labels) so you won't see them on totally legit sites.

Of course with custom bootleg edits there really isn't much quality control. You don't know what their source is or if they are using some $9.99 mp4 encoder they saw a pop up ad for on the net.

Yeah there are guys who take pride in their stuff, but 90% of the remixes out there are hot garbage or cater to a demographic I will never play to.

I will chime in on this too. 8thwonder actually has nothing i can not make myself or find elsewhere like rarecrates. You'd be crazy to disagree if you're a subscriber of 8thwonder that you really have to filter through the garbage files in order to find any good stuff. while i DO support bitching LOUDLY about 8th wonder, the time has passed for me.
i gave up on them long ago. if people can get them turned around, that's great, but i do not see it from a 10-12$ pool. looks like an uphill battle.
everyone from the owners, to the devs, to the editors have to increase their game.
seems like many of the people are complacent.

i used to defend them, sorta. it had and served it's purpose for me. but i found myself using them less and less. "maybe i will get 2-3 videos this month. for 9.99 it paid for itself" was my thinking. once i dropped the bad habit and extinguished it like a smoke i have never looked back. thrown away like yesterday's jam. don't miss it at all

exactly why i support 8thwonder ;) Frenzy is a "Monster" and I'm a huge fan of breakbeat. And they also have the Black Cards remix of Ass Back Home by Gym Class hero's which happens to be the best electro remix out...searched xtenda and smashvidz...none of em had a video edit. And yes you do have to search thru all the garbage files to get the good shit. 8th blows period but there editors are making video edits of this dude's stuff then they are ok in my book! --> soundcloud.com
tomatoslice 9:26 PM - 17 March, 2012
i have known Frenzy for many years.
i remember when i first met him. he came into my record store, a little raver fiending for breakbeat records. funny thing is, his real name is actually Raven.
gah...every time i see him at his residence he tries to get me to scratch, so i avoid the booth now.

he will be glad to hear he has fans.

Believe me pretty much all my dj friends here in Florida dig all his stuff. He makes some of the sickest rerubs I've heard. Icey plays some of his stuff as well as other top breaks producers. He merges electro house with breaks...I dig house but I grew up on breaks and truthfully everything always sounds better with a breakbeat :)

theres were a few out of the US that were ok...Even Icey's tree was ok (boots)
but TCR, Burrito,BedrockBreaks,Botchit & Scarper, Emotiff, finger lickin, KingSize, Thrust, Lot49, Punkz.... I bought everything that dropped on them...

here some of my shows from IpartyRadio back in the day: www.house-mixes.com

but as far as 8th wonder goes... I gave them a fair shake for a while.
but the juice was never worth the squeeze with them for me.
a few choice editors, and a lot of crap to sift through.
never mind questionable encoding on the video side, questionable AUDIO too!

the reason i asked about 'seek and destroy";
i had to pick up that Scott guy from the airport or hotel and i was watching DJ Flare's Magnifrying Glass dvd and he said that was one of his tracks playing.

i have so many of their records. Dymanix II and The X-Men made some of my favorite records (next to Kraftwerk).
fk fk fuuuck, i feel like such an asshole. i had nooo clue and the guy was sitting right next to me. i had to flipping drive him around and had no idea. farge!!

i have met many famous people and mostly i do not give a damn who they are, cuz they are just people, but that is one of the few that i would have liked to have told "I really like your music, thank you."
