The RIAA is now saying that if you buy a cd and rip itto your computer it is illegal. What does this mean to us? Well that the RIAA can take us to court for playing music off our computers even if we PAID for the cd that the music came from. NOW can someone find a way to get the RIAA to take their own heads out their asses and realize that they are singlehandedly ruining their own profits b/c of all their gestapo tactics in dealing with the people who spend money on their crap products they are putting out now.

I think they are saying if you share the ones you have though. It doesn't seem illegal to have them on you computer, the only way you'll be in violation is if you share them? Maybe I'm too stoned to read this right, but thats what it looks like to me

lol. I would love to see them try to fight anyone on that. What if you just ripped a cd to use in your ipod. Do they really expect people to re-buy every album digitally? Beside I wouldnt worry about it. What are they going to do, search everyones music collection and match it to their digital library?

In australia they've just updated the law so you can change the format of any music you've purchased. Once. The second time you do it it's a breach of copywrite and under no circumstances can you share that music. So you can go vinyl to mp3 or cd to mp3, but the loophole is that you can't use anything but the original format in a public performance without purchasing the rights from the owner of the copywrite. So basically using serato is illegal unless you only play your own original compositions that contain no samples whatsoever.
Pretty stupid. I always thought the DJ helped promote music, but it seems like it's becoming a case of the DJ being the easiest target for lawsuits.

ha!
Neither article says anything about ripping vinyl. They can get my mp3's when they pry my external hard drive from my cold dead fingers.

Fuck the RIAA. If they really wanted to catch everybody that had illegal MP3's they'd have to confiscate all ipods. I bet only like 10% of all ipod owners have all legally purchased MP3's or wack as M4P's from itunes. The RIAA is a joke the only way to get caught sharing or downloading Mp3's is if you DL from limewire all the time or leave torrents open for days. They can only tell if an mp3 is illegal if it has some warez group name in the tag. In the Napster days EVERY MP3 was illegal and it was easy to catch people. Now labels email their own Mp3's to radio stations and DJ's. It's impossible to tell if an Mp3 is illegally downloaded or legally given to you.

if this is illegal, shouldn't the RIAA go after the computer companys for enabling us to rip cd's??

Well that would be an obvious answer buy I'm sure the computer company lawyers would tell the RIAA to jog on.
