Buy a MAC!!!!!!! there is NO valid excuse if you want to do video.

Yes a PC can work but theres know way to know until you buy it. Plus a mac will run faster. and when you buy a mac you need ti get the 15 or 17 inch ones because the 13 doesn't have a video card either.
And FYI the beats thing is just branding it will have ZERO effect on the quality or ability to run and form of serato. The whld beats thing is just a monstercable brand of speakers that Dr.Dre slapped his brand on to. It really means nothing.
skinnyguy 1:32 AM - 13 March, 2012
it means you get to pay more.

But not as much as that stupid little apple light on a mbp.

speaking of witch i saw a kid (real amateur DJ) with a dell laptop and a apple sticker over the dell symbol that lit up, and you could still see the word dell behind it. Me and another DJ buddy almost fell over laughing so hard when we seen it.
Maver1ck 1:57 PM - 13 March, 2012
Thanks for the info. I was aware that the beats branding would not make it a "better" laptop for running video, but spec and price wise it didn't seem too bad. I guess it will have to be a mac, the only other option that I was considering was a Rain laptop. Rain laptops are supposedly tuned for musicians. Do you guys have experience with Rain? I was also unaware that the 13 inch mac would not be able to handle video either.
phatbob 3:21 PM - 13 March, 2012
Last time I looked at those Rain laptops they had basic integrated graphics too. And are priced at Apple levels, at which point you should ABSOLUTELY buy a Mac.

The Intel integrated graphics are supported on 13" MacBook Pros, but they still aren't ideal for video DJ usage. You need a decent discrete GPU, and if you insist on buying Wintel you should be looking at gaming laptops to get that.

But save yourself all the time and hassle and pissing about.

Buy a 15" MacBook Pro.

alien ware laptop are pretty bitchen for a PC, and maybe the only PC laptop i wold consider ever buying again. But there priced really close to apple so again whats the point. 15 pro!! or if you like me and love screen space 17 inch pro
Rebelguy 7:04 PM - 13 March, 2012
Buy a refurb Mac and Applecare or a used Mac still under Applecare.
DJMisterE 12:57 AM - 14 March, 2012
I thought this thread was a joke... WOW
Maver1ck 12:12 PM - 14 March, 2012
MisterE why did you think this was a joke? Just getting from advice from you guys that already run video. I want to get into video and I want to make sure I have the right gear to do so. I didn't know video was that intensive of a program to run. I see PCs running pretty intensive programs like Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, etc. so I didn't know if a decent spec pc laptop would do the trick for video.
DJMisterE 3:38 PM - 14 March, 2012
Not the fact that you needed help or advice. I was laughing at the name of the thread. We're all here to give help and advice pretty much 24/7. No disrespect meant at all

I have never used a mac before so I hope I would be able to pick up how the OS works pretty fast. Do macs handle installing/uninstalling programs and drivers better than windows?
phatbob 5:45 PM - 14 March, 2012
That's one of the great things about OSX mate. If you are looking for an easy life, Mac will give it to you.
DJ Soup 7:18 PM - 14 March, 2012
You should get a HP Envy if your looking at getting an HP Laptop. It's what I've been running the last couple years to do video. But I heard the new Envy that came out has Intel HD graphics which isn't good for doing video. Mine has an ATI Graphics card with 1 gig of dedicated ram.
skinnyguy 7:44 PM - 14 March, 2012
The aforementioned lappy can do video. It will even run vdj just fine. However, serato video is an altogether different software. It just runs better on the Mac os. If you're intent on mixing video with serato video, just get a Mac. Save yourself time and money.

yeah i dont think Serato Video supports intel graphics cards for PC. serato.com

Besides... youd be missing out on Mixemergency!!! www.inklen.com

u def should get a mac.

Mac OS will take you only about 3 hours to learn it. Just forget everything you already know. everything works just how you would expect it. Installing programs and such are 10x easier.
skinnyguy 8:27 PM - 14 March, 2012
A lot of stuff on mac is very similar on windows. Not much of a learning curve, really.

and uninstalling...
with mac, all you do is drop the app in the garbage and delete the app support file in the library and wah-lah... your done.

good luck trying to completey get a program off of your pc with windows... you'll be finding traces of the program hidden in every nook and cranny.
DJ Soup 11:33 PM - 14 March, 2012
He was talking about using video on Itch in the original post so Mix Emergency wouldn't work even if he did buy a Mac.
Maver1ck 12:50 PM - 15 March, 2012
Wow seems like all of the votes are for mac. DJ Soup is the only one that has had experience with the HP envy. Guess I better save up for a mac 15inch.

yeah, i did a video a couple years ago on youtube when i first bought my V7's and i did the video using a windows pc, i went and bought a mac the next week, and let me tell you... there was a world of improvement in the sound quality that came from the V7's. also the itch software ran alot smoother on the mac.
i started doing video last year so i had to give up the V7's and itch.

it's worth every penny to go with a 15" or 17" macbook pro with a dedicated graphics card.

i dont know if you own any turtables or have any experience with ScratchLive, but if you get serious about doing video check out mix emergency... it'll def take your VJ'ing to the next level and offers alot of extras that make your sets a blast.

one last thing... if your looking for quality videos to start building your video collection, check out SmashVision www.vj-pro.com and Xtendamix www.xtendamix.com.

both are really great pools and offer great customer service.

good luck to ya!

you will get that. there is a higher percentage of macs created that will work for video.
there are thousands of pc laptops and many do not work. due to that it's just easier to find what works in mac.
a working pc, is like winning the lottery. it takes some luck.
the ones that get it are pretty happy. but winning the lottery isn't all that great. it increases many problems, like a pc.
many say "if you know what you are doing pc will work."
a mathematician "if they know what they are doing" has higher chance of winning the lottery too.

you will be happy with a mac.

Agreed 1000 times over with tomatoslice, Code:E, phatbob, et al. I had a Dell Inspiron 17R and realized it couldn't handle video well so I got a Mac. Wish I would have made the jump years ago, and this is coming from a guy who grew up with PC's and supports them on a daily basis.

Like others have mentioned, the amount of money you'd spend on a high quality gaming PC to run VSL/SV/ME flawlessly is just a few hundred shy of a refurbed 15" Macbook Pro. Get the extra cash together and buy the Mac. It'll be one of the best investments you've ever made and you'll never look back.

Good catch, thanks Nak. Being able to run ME alone is a reason to get a Mac.
Maver1ck 12:28 AM - 17 March, 2012
Cool, what about the air or do you have to stick the mac pro?
Code:E 1:09 AM - 17 March, 2012
Pro, airs do not have a video card
