What is the Video Buffer for?

DJ M-Killa 12:17 AM - 7 March, 2012
I read the manual.
But that's why I don't understand it!
I set the Buffer to 1GB. If I do so, my CPU Load goes up to 100% while loading the track and stays there for a few seconds, if I start scratching or something it's the same. Sometimes I get audio glitches then.
But if the Buffer is set to 200Mb (the lowest) the CPU Load is at half maximum even while loading tracks. Only HD videos let the CPU Load increase more. V-Sync is on. Frame blending off. I use the MacBook mentioned in my profile with 4GB RAM.
Can some one give me an advice how to set up the buffer size correctly?
DjBoozie 12:37 AM - 7 March, 2012
Set it low...the buffer tell your computer how much available resource to use. you don't need to set it 1 gig cause it will allocate 1 to the program and you don't need that much
DJ M-Killa 12:45 AM - 7 March, 2012
Ok, thanks.
I'll set it down 200.

Yes. But it's not a pro. It's the last white one with unibody.

Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Graphics Memory 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory (Minimum graphics memory usage is 256 MB)

not sure if it will help but assuming your
Model Identifier is MacBook6,1 according to mactracker you can bump the ram up to 8GBs.
DJ M-Killa 7:34 AM - 14 March, 2012
anyway, it's working with the setting of the lowest video buffer.
I needn't understand why ;-)

So what buffer should I use with my 2.4 Ghz non unibody MBP, 4gb Ram Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT 256 VRam ? Most footage is 720p. (I know, get a new computer?)

If you haven't already, you may wanna bring it into an Apple store. There was a recall on your GPU in some affected MBP models. You may receive a replacement MBP...

i used that same macbook pro for 2 year to do video, i had it set past 1 1/2, never gave me any problems
WarpNote 1:37 PM - 14 March, 2012
Thanks Joee!
Whats your quality setting ie output/pipeline resolution?

Yeah hype, I did have a problem with the GPU, the screen actually went black.
I saw the recall on Gizmodo.com when first announced, so was expecting it.
They replaced the man board and gpu for free and I didnt have Applecare.
Its been solid since. That was a couple of years ago I think.
Joee 1:55 PM - 14 March, 2012
in serato you mean? have it set to medium
WarpNote 2:20 PM - 14 March, 2012
Yeah I'm not doing video as you probably got by now. But I havea background in motion graphics and thinking about finally adding some for my dj sets. Bought ME last year for messing around with, also been messing around with SV the last few days.

WarpNote 9:38 AM - 5 November, 2012
Does it stop on random videos, or specific ones?
djfantasy82 7:21 PM - 5 November, 2012
it does it at random videos , i just noticed that when i use the FlexFx button to activate the echo out effect , it does it even more.
WarpNote 12:58 AM - 12 November, 2012

Hey Guys,

The Video-SL/Serato Video Buffer setting should be set around the available VRAM of your Dedicated Graphics Card.

If you have a 1GB Dedicated Graphics card set the Serato Video buffer around 1GB.

This is a general rule of thumb as you are allocating the Total VRam of the dedicated graphics card to be used in rendering the video stream.

If you have a shared memory GPU then set the buffer accordingly.

Because you are using an Echo Out Effect I think you may have 'Audio Enabled Effects' Turned ON. This means the opacity of the video stream has gone to 0%, until you turn OFF the effect.
Check if you have Audio Enabled Effects checked in the Scratch Live>Setup>Plugins>Serato Video>Effects.
Uncheck it if you don't want the DJFX to affect the video stream also.

A number of the DJFX have pre determined video effects that engage when using Audio Enabled Effects.
XRM5 3:48 AM - 12 November, 2012
When will these video-audio effect hybrids also be in Serato DJ, Anthony?
Niro 9:36 AM - 12 November, 2012
What bug are you guys talking about, I solely use sorenson for encoding my videos and have never had any issues.
