srm450 v eon 15" g2

skutch 3:33 PM - 10 September, 2005
ive been renting the eons for smaller venues but i want to invest in a set of powered portables. I'm thinking im going with the mackies. i hear they sound better. is there any reason i should get the eons?. I'll be running a passive sub with either set up. Also, is there some banging speaker that isnt on the radar.

I have a pair of the SRM-450's and love them.

me too, i got a pair of mackie 10" powered with a single jbl powered 18" sub. everything fits in my honda civic hatchback....
love the sound and compact/light characteristics.

however, there were these wireless powered speakers from phonic.

www.phonic.com

has anyone tried these out? how far can you set em up from the transmitter?
DJ Dynamight 2:49 AM - 13 September, 2005
hmm, I've owned a pair of SRM450s for the past 2-3 years or so, therefore I am kinda biased towards mackie.

as for the phonic speakers, I would be weary about the 2.4GHz bandwith since cordless phones and 802.11g ride the same frequency--but that's just me. I've thought about using a Shure wireless instrument transmitter to achieve the same goal with my mackies, but never had a need to actually do it.

I would recommend checking out the Yorkville NX550P if you can. They sound great and people often think they sound better than the competitors.

also, QSC is releasing a new line of active speakers, due out in November I think. I heard them at the DJ Expo in AC, they sound awsome, built like a tank (birch wood). as a result, they are heavier than jbl/mackie products.
DJ EmDeaZiL 12:28 PM - 13 September, 2005
I've been using the Mackies for almost 4 years now. Bottom line, they crank. Sometimes people walk right in front of them and will grab their ears. hahahahha..
Anyways, they are awesome, however I do find myself wishing I had a bass bottom for them when I do some spots.

The Mackies are heavy enough, I'd hate to lug even more stuff around...
I guess Serato has spoiled me, not lugging those heavy crates anymore!

Check out the EV & Dynacord models - will kick the arse off any mackie or jbl small system.
DJ_Mike_Coquilla 8:42 PM - 13 September, 2005
DJ EmDeaZil.... if you need bottom end support, i saw these 8" or 10" (tiny) subs that were super loud and low....they were from Bag End, but they were expensive and also required their 1u rack processor...at the time it did not have a built in pwr amp, but the sales guy said they will offer that option in the future.

any Bag End users?

I've just got myself some Wharfedale EVP active speakers. Will let you know what i think. For the price is they're anything as good as the passive models they will be phenomenal!
