im in accounting....i dont even know wtf my job title is since i do so much different things. I do accounts payable, journal adjustments, insurance claims, teller functions, take customer calls. I worked in credit before so I even know how to process credit applications and buy deals from dealers.

Damn this sucks cause I like the company and want to make it big but I think the boss is a cheap fake ass bitch. EMPHASIS ON CHEAP.

I'm a typesetter/graphics designer and consultant for a locally owned classified paper. Basically, I design their ads, I set up and maintain their computer network and anything else they need. I ONLY work about 20 hours a week and I do get paid salary with benefits, cash bonuses, etc. It's a great job because it gives me the freedom to enjoying DJing in my own time.. where I get extra money. lol


I basically automated a lot of shit when I got hired at this joint. I save them a lot of money in productions costs... so they return the favor. It's a win/win situation.

Damn sixxx,my boy hustled in graphic designing and was without work for a minute but now has a similar schedule to you working 20 hrs at like $30 an hour designing DVD covers.And he still hustles on the side doing flyers,buisness cards and all kinds of shit with his side buisness.I need a career change and this is a job that brings out your creativity which is why Im looking into it.My boy has shown me some shit on PhotoShop but Im more into Photography.

My boy said its all about your portfolio and that nobody that ever interviewed him even cared about his assosiates degree just the work he's done.Our work shcedules are off to show me everything but he reccomended going to get a certificate and learning more.I already got a foot in the door through my boy.He already has more work than he can handle and could pass it my way.I just worry about an overall future in it.Should I go for it?

J_Static. My only long day consists of Tuesdays. I work from 9-7:30pm but I commute an hr away. So you have to add 2.5 hours of driving. Plus from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed. Then, Wednesday, (after working all day) I have to be up at 5am to commute again to work half a day. :P


So basically I work 1.5 days "straight"... not homo like you, straight. lol

Skiggz, if you don't mind the commute. Chevron (El Segundo Refinery) will be hiring in January, they're taking applications now @ chevron.com . Openings: I/E, Machine Shop, & Boiler Shop. They train and pay ranges from 60-80K Year, 4 days on 3 days off.

Wow, if I wasn't in school I'd go.. As long as the refinery doesn't blow up, it seems like a cool job if you don't mind physical labor.

I just got a raise too, from my older job. I quit them to work for a college for less money. I make 14.69 at the school. Now I got a raise from the older one making 17.50 an hour. I left there to work at the school. Now I might want to go back, but I like the school(IT work) I work on electronics at the og job.

I might hit up that Chevron shit. I graduate in Feb and worked with shit like that in the NAVY, but don't feel like getting dirty again after getting my degree.

I've been in a similar situation before. I ended up having it out with my director.

Basically I got turned down for a promotion as they wouldn't have anyone to cover me and a few other bullshit excuses. I was offered the role then last minute she over rid the decision.

We had an hours argument where she tried to offer me some rubbish deals like a year trainee mgt scheme where I basically did the work and got paid the same amount as my current role but had no authority and some other rubbish.

I handed my notice in and got another job (where I am now). Been here a year and already had a promotion.

But yeah basically you need to have a sit down with your manager and his manager. Let them know what you want to talk about before the meeting so they can come with their reasons and proposals. List all your points on why you think you should be given a raise ie; work done outside of your role, time served, etc etc. Also have a plan of what you want to acheive from the meeting. Ie; You want a 4$ increase per hour would settle for 2$ but anything less you walk. That way you can stay firm and not get swayed by all the ''future'' talk some people like to give.

Ok, so I just got pulled in the office today to go over my raise officially. They kinda caught me off guard and I wasn't ready to go over my concern for a higher increase then $1.20 so I didnt really contest it. Anyway, he was going on and on about how he has a lot of responsibilities planned for me over the next year and how they appreciate all the work I do and what a pleasure it is to have me there. He congratulated on my $1.20 increase and went on to blab to me about inflation (BULLSHIT) and how it's hard to give raises at the moment and how the $1.20 was a big raise and how rare it is that he gives that much.

I kind of thought he was just talking out of his ass the whole time but the sunofabitch is good with words so I'm not sure if he was teling the truth or just bullshitting me.

I guess I should go back and talk to him.
