Mixer question

I am currently looking at getting a 57SL but from what I have seen it seems like Rane isn't doing anything more with the 57 model. Would I be a lot better off in the long run with a 62 or 68?
I don't plan on swapping laptops on the fly with another DJ so I don't really see the need for the high dollar 68 mixer I just want something that doesn't cost 2k and will get me up and going. I just switched from an NS7 to technics 1210's and need a mixer asap I am losing my mind not being able to use these turntables.

The 57 is going on 6 years old. Its undecided whether we're going to continue to make it. That is entirely up to the public. My guess is once they get their hands on the 61 or 62 people aren't going to want to purchase the 57 thus we'd stop making them.
If you don't want to pay the 2k I would look at purchasing the 61 and get a midi controller.

I would go the Rane Sixty-One + MIDI controller if I were you. The MIDI controller only if you want to control features in Scratch Live. Depending on what you would want to control will dictate the best controller. If you are just looking for basics like cue points, loops, SP-6 samples etc... the Dicers are great for this (and even better when paired with Dice Tools) as well as small, out of the way and cheap (price wise).

Ok thanks, I will continue to do some research on the 61 mixer.

no problem.
A quick run down on some key differances:
57 = usb 1
61 = usb 2
*****
both have an external effects loop for outboard effects.
57 = 2 built in effects chips IN the mixer. You can choose a few different effects but only have access to 2 at a time and while flexible, are not the most straight forward to stack and configure.
61 = NO built in effects but has USB insert button in the FX section that routs the DJ-FX software fx in Scratch Live to the mixer POST Fader so you have control of pretty much limitless effects with up to 6 effects at a time that are easier to stack and use.
*****
57 = controls on the mixer to control Scratch Live, SP-6, Serato Video, Recording, The Bridge etc...
61 = doesn't have built in controls but the PGM 1 & 2 joysticks are clickable so have a 2nd page and hopefully they will be open to midi mapping in the future which would allow for some control. With the money saved, you can invest in a controller (Dicers or whatever)
*****
57 = no dedicated channel for the SP-6
61 = dedicated channel for the SP-6 with a FLEXFX button to route it to the FX section
*****
57 = no dedicated hi-pass/low-pass filter knob
61 = dedicated hi-pass/low-pass filter knob on PGMs 1 & 2 along with FLEXFX buttons
*****
57 = XLR, Balanced TRS 1/4" and RCA outs
61 = Balanced TRS 1/4" and RCA outs but no XLR outs BUT there is absolutely NO difference in sound quality between XLR and Balanced TRS 1/4 " outs. Drawback, 1 less output but I don't know too many people that use all 3 at once on the 57 anyway.
*****
57 = has an input for a foot pedal on the front panel. (up to 3 buttons)
61 = no foot pedal jack but there are USB foot pedals that can be bought for not much more money than the ones used with the 57 and are a lot more flexible.
*****
57 = 1 mic input that's Balanced 1/4"
61 = 1 mic input that accepts an XLR or a balanced or unbalanced 1/4" plug and also has a switchable line level option to connect a wireless receiver or other line level device (sample player, keyboard etc...
*****
There are other small differences but those are gonna be your main factors to weigh against right there.

I am sold on the 61, it will take me a little more time to get it since you can find used 57's for about a grand but I am sure in the end it will be worth it to spend the extra money and get a 61 with some dicers.
