Over $40 WTF! Shipping is not too bad to the US @ $6.00. I can't justify spending that, so I think I'll just shit-can my V700's and open my HDJ-1000's that been sitting on a shelf for alomst a year in the box.
uno seis 1:13 AM - 20 November, 2007

is the plastic on the "knuckle" thing on the side starting to crack yet? When that happens its bye bye time....

Do a ebay search for Sony MDR-Z700's (Note the Z not V), they are said to be the grey market knock offs of the V700's and are usually pretty cheap or at least cheaper. Pads are probably the same quality but the electronics are said to be "different".

are you talking about leather kneepads??
dj shadow from detroit 4:58 AM - 20 November, 2007
the ear pads ( the leather worn out )
LoKey 5:55 AM - 20 November, 2007
Damn I had no idea the pads could be replaced. I had My Sony's for 3 years and they never broke on me, despite reading horror stories about how they supposedly break on everybody after a year. Only issues I had with them was the the coil on the cord got stretched out and my beard wore down the ear pads to the point where they looked too nasty and I was getting tiny pieces of black material all on my neck and face.
I needed an excuse to buy a new pair (I now use Pioneer HDJ-1000), but If I knew I could replace the earpads on my Sony's, I would've saved my dough. My Sony's are still good, so I'll probably get the replacement pads anyway.
Niro 6:03 AM - 20 November, 2007
You can find new 700 on ebay for about $50 and that's including shipping. That would probably be your best bet.

No, you'll still need yours.
frost-9 11:32 AM - 20 November, 2007
yeah, and if you want them new they're about $85 on Amazon. I don't mind paying that for new headphones every year and a half or so. I'm on my third pair of 700s. Yes they break. Once you notice the infamous crack, you can ghetto-rig them back together with dental floss, or some other similar string. Dental floss was what was close at hand at the time I did it for the first time. Coat the little ghetto-stitches (several loops of floss weaved around the cracked joint) with Krazy Glue, and bam.. you've given them at least another 6 more months of life before one of the speakers blows out. They're comfortable so I keep buying them. I have the pioneers at home.. they broke much quicker, now I just use them for recording mixes there.
