I saw that movie for the first time at an electronics store in when I was like 13. I had no idea what it was, noone had seen a cartoon that had shit like that in it back then. At least not in the u.s. My dad and I just stood there for like 45 mins. watching the shit.

Finally I was able to cop it when I was like 16 and watched it a ton. Surprisingly, it was the only anime i ever got into besides ninja scroll. I never read manga or became an anime/manga nerd. But that movie kinda sparked really small interest in japan for me. Later, I ended up studying japanese, moving there and really learning it.

After I became fluent I watched Akira again randomly. Its a totally different movie in Japanese. Shit in it makes so much more sense.

Anyway, there was a custom bike company in Japan called white house that built a non-functional exact replica for the movie releases or something.

I've heard that there are three rideable functioning prototypes that do exist though they might not be exact replicas. I think they are just based on the original bike.

The bike is known as "big red" in japan.

I remember my pops brought that movie over from Japan, he flies for Northwest Airlines
