Who's upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion?

DJJorel 10:51 PM - 5 January, 2012
I know that Scratch Live now supports Lion, but I also know that there are a couple of outstanding issues.

I was just wondering who out there has done the upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion, and how it's working out.

I'm contemplating doing the upgrade myself, but I have that "If it aint broke, don't fix it" mentality...

I wouldn't consider that an "upgrade".

Enough said.

hey its a mac so the upgrade is not required. i tested lion on 1 of my macs an i didnt find any noticeable difference so now both my macs are still Snow Leopard . to be honest i cant find a real reason to upgrade.

I upgraded with no issues

There seems to be an issue with heating. For me and other Lion-upgraded users, we experience a higher internal temperature of the MacBook Pro. As Serato Scratch Live already uses a lot of CPU usage, the addition of Lion operating system made my MacBook Pro a heater for my laptop.

In my opinion,
I would "upgrade" to Snow Leopard but I cannot seem to find my installation discs...

There's nothing great about Lion besides Mission Control and FaceTime. But most of all, the new Gestures crap is hard to get used to...

I already have that application to help with the heating problem. Nonetheless, Lion heats up more than Snow Leopard for my MacBook

How much of a temperature difference are you seeing? Just wondering if this is a few degrees or something more...
blnkdagr 12:38 AM - 7 January, 2012
I've noticed a temperature difference varying on what I am doing. For Serato Scratch Live, I experience about 10-20 degree Celsius difference. When using Video-SL, I experience a temperature spike as high as 30 degree Celsius difference to about the mid-90 degree Celsius.

With Snow Leopard, using SSL would only take me up to about mid-70 degree Celsius.

Those all sound pretty high...I do speed up my fans when DJ-ing, but Scratch Live + Mix Emergency typically has my operating temperatures running 52-56C. Occasionally it will go higher on certain videos that are 1080p, but even then no higher than 70C.

Guess I have one more reason to stay with Snow Leopard.

I am running Lion currently, and it seems to work pretty good with all the ITCH controllers I plug in, as well as Scratch Live and all the SL hardware.

However there is that one "image effect" issue with Video-SL. Although Im not a big Video-SL user so it doesn't bother me too much at the moment.

Outside of Serato stuff I thought it was pretty crazy that it has a "cant print from preview bug", although there is a pretty easy workaround.

All in all, I am quite enjoying the navigation and slowly getting use to the changes since 10.6.8 :)

So for those with the heating issue has it been fixed?

I upgraded to Lion the week it came out and I haven't really noticed any difference at all besides the extra features like Mission Control and stuff.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooo busted looks like Martin has been using Mixemergency secretly instead of vsl.

traitor hahahahahahahaha jokes jokes jokes

any way i upgraded to lion for 3 weeks and sl and vsl / me was acting up so i switched back to snow leopard 10.6.6 also i noticed that any thing higher than 10.6.6 snow leopard on my laptop when running sl plus video just made my 2008 macbookpro run into issues when i choose to upgrade.

Haha, I see what you did there ;)

How did you roll back from Lion? Did you just reboot from a Snow Leopard disc?

yes i rebooted from a snow leopard disc but before i had installed lion i had made a snow leopard back up using time machine and i had stored it on my external. so when it was time to go back to leopard all i did was:

1. I went to utility disc then choose my internal hard drive then clicked erase free space then choose the 7-pass Erase of deleted files

2.then when that was done i inserted the snow leopard disc then erased what remained of lion using the snow leopard disc then connected my external hard drive where i had stored all my time machine backups for my mac and i choose to boot from my external hard drive time machine backup.

I've an early 2009 pro and upgraded a few months a go.
I maxed the ram at 8gb at the same time and it's been running smoother and faster.
This might be the ram upgrade, or it might be lion, but using sl and me has never been better! My mac now boots in 64 bit and running ableton with the bridge has also been fine!
I might have just been lucky though... I also hate the new gestures. Multiple desktops is nice though

Can't say I have come across any heating issues myself. The majority of our Support team is now working on Lion and no majors so far :)
