Can someone explain to me the difference between the drive types Fat32 & NTFS
as ive had some serious issues of ate with my lacie d2 quadra NTFS not being recognised by my computer after I transfer data from a fat 32 drive! I get a message after the transfers have finished & I try to close the system of G drive delayed write failed! I never ever had anby of these problems with my fat 32 seagagte!
Whats the deal?

I think formats are based on computers. I think in order for a mac to read a External and be able to make changes to the files it needs to be fat 32, vice versa for PC's...i could be wrong tho, thats just what i thought.

thanks konix but ive been there!
I looked at them twice to make sure i didnt miss anything!
My fat 32 drive works like a champ but its power is a little faulty now & sometimes switches itself off!
So I bought the lacie as a replacement!
It wont let me convert it to fat 32 & every time i try to transfere the data the drive just fucking dies & then my computer wont recognise it!
Ive been through 2 drives so far and the 3rd is on its way tonight! But im getting to the point where (IDK) whats going wrong & how to stop it!
Very very stressfull!

Im just using disk managment!
The way it descibed to do in the manual!
I've had the shop format this one!
Would it be that im transferring Fat32 to NTFS?
what does this delayed write failed mean?
& how can I turn delayed write off!
When I ask my laptop to do something I dont want it to be put on a fucking list I want it done!
Im gettin pissed with lacie too! there tech support is based in the fucking usa! which is great if you live there but not so hot if you live in the uk & their free phone numbers dont work here It will cost me a fortune!

no you seem to be missunderstanding, the thing im asking is that Im transferring files from a drive thats fat32 formatted to a drive that is NTFS formatted!!
Would that be the problem?
& what the fuck is a delayed write failed???? & how do I stop that from happening to kill off another drive?

i see no reason you would have a problem. you seem to understand as well as i do. and i don't know how to get around that error.
there should not be a problem to copy from one format to another... try copying something to your computer and then to the other drive

Will be on that tonight!
Would it be something to do with cache files? The delayed write that is?
How do I stop that from happening!
I need a real techie to help me out here! It way over my head!
Damn this never happens with vinyl! :)

if you're getting "delayed write failed", the cabling to the drive is defective or the drive is on it's way out.

ahhh but would that be the old fat32 drive (not the one sending the messsage) Or the new lacie NTFS One getting the message out!

Its just that two lacie drives in 4 days seems a lil ridiculous to me!

adjust your dma, cache settings, etc to more safe values. the drive will be slower but the message will probably go away.

DMA = direct memory access
i think you just right click on the drive and choose properties and it's a troubleshoot button on one of those tabs. something like that. i don't use windows much.
