Sorry to hear that A Swift and D2, hopefully you guys come out of this whole thing with no losses...

As for me, out company lost an office in the fire, so I might lose my job, since they may have to place people who have more seniority than me.

But my problems are small compared to you guys....my prayers go out to you....
a-swift 5:15 PM 22 October 2007
the sky here at my work is even worse. it's totally ash and non-breathable air! in inside my office so it's not too bad but i can't even see across the courtyard out the glass doors in front!
D-Two 5:44 PM 22 October 2007
The fire is moving away now. but we cant leave our houses, they have everything blocked off. If we leave we cant come back.
bandoma 5:58 PM 22 October 2007
i live in irvine. the fire is one mile north of my house. got some pics, will post later. we evacuated voluntarily last night. thought i would never have to this this, but grabbed my laptop, ext hds, 56 and sl1. left 4 turntables and all my records there.

got back this morning and it looks like the fire is heading south down the toll road.

im at work right now and our office smells like smoke...so we get to go home. shit is crazy!
a-swift 6:07 PM 22 October 2007
bandoma, if i have to evacuate tonight, i'm taking my dj bag (laptop, headhones, sl-1), my 57, cash and a small suitcase of clothes!

DrStank 6:48 PM 22 October 2007
It's heading away from me this time (Anaheim Hills), but man are my sinuses fucked from all this wind and smoke...

Well, just in case someone sets another fire up the toll road, I have everything I need packed in my truck. If I need to come back home, I'm throwing a few crates of vinyl in the back and I'm out.
CQuence 7:19 PM 22 October 2007

sixxx 7:19 PM 22 October 2007
If you're insured, get only stuff that can't be replaced. If you're not insured, get a storage facility asap.
a-swift 7:39 PM 22 October 2007
the fire is working its way towards me but i dont think it will engulf my house. stuff like that doesnt happen to me. trust me, if i REALLY thought my house was gonna go up in flames, i would not be sitting in the cubicle writing about it here on the forums.
CQuence 7:48 PM 22 October 2007
Glad to hear that
dirtbag filthy 8:09 PM 22 October 2007

DjWoody 8:49 PM 22 October 2007
My sinus are fucked up too and I'm in Santa Ana. :( My friend just texted me a pic from her window at work. It's pretty close to her.

Swift, I thought the woods are still a few miles from your house?

Last night at Knotts Scary Farm, I overheard this teen girl in front of me. Her phone rang and it was her mom. They got evacuated. The poor girl was all worried. She was like "WHAT IF OUR HOUSE BURNS DOWN? WHERE WILL I LIVE?" I was surprised she didn't brake down.
a-swift 9:20 PM 22 October 2007
i got some extra respirators and fire retardant suits. anyone want to come looting with me?
Dj onyx 9:38 PM 22 October 2007
I'm in Santa Clarita and I'm chillin' for now. Earlier is a little bit scary cause the fire was in front and back of my house.
DrStank 10:56 PM 22 October 2007
DjWoody, I'm in Santa Ana too. Sitting in my office at the Auto Mall trying to keep my eyes from watering and nose from running.
DjWoody 11:13 PM 22 October 2007
Oh shit! You just reminded me. I gotta go to the Auto Mall.
Djbran 11:20 PM 22 October 2007

Otter 11:26 PM 22 October 2007
For work my areas that are one fire are Malibu and Arrowhead.

Personal: Helping a friend potentially evac from Lake Forrest (El Torro) then driving down to San Diego to help friend evac there. Fun fun. Well you get used to it, we always have fires this time of year in so cali. Alteast I am not stuck in the Northridge earthquake again.

Damn I wonder how far that smoke will travel. The last big fires that happend I was living in Chino Hills and it was smokey as hell with ash all over the place. That sh** was everywhere.I thought I was gonna suffocate.Im in L.A.now.I went through the same shit back in the days when I lived in Washington State '94 I think and there were big forrest fires,It was like the end of the world with everything in ash.

On the TV it doesnt seem like the fires are anything major but the smoke alone is horrible. This is serious shit.My only close experience was when I drove by a small fire on a hill one time and it looked crazy and I could feel the heat.I cant imagine it being in my back yard.Stay careful and best of luck that nothing happens to your cribs.
tig ol' bitties 2:46 PM 23 October 2007

a-swift 2:02 AM 24 October 2007

Dj_KaGeN 2:06 AM 24 October 2007
I need you at the top of your game to deliver a full blown kick VONKUF asswhooping
a-swift 4:42 PM 24 October 2007
well the fires are still there. right on the 241 toll road. i can see the actual flames from my house, not just the smoke. literally not more than a few miles away.

i went to taco tuesday last night and it was fucking surreal driving down the 241 with the entire hillsides burning just off to the side of the freeway. i'm not talking 10 miles in the distance, i'm talking right of the side of the freeway! i didnt see a single firefighter. just shit burning.

feels kind like the apocolypse around here.
CQuence 5:54 PM 24 October 2007
Hang in there Swizzy, let me know if you need a spot to crash at, hopefully I wont have to evacuate from Lake forest
Dj_KaGeN 6:37 PM 24 October 2007
damnit - my chic just got sent home AGAIN from work due to the fires smoke.
a-swift 8:32 PM 24 October 2007
it's bad here too in aliso viejo. i just walked about a mile to taco bell. other than not being able to breathe, it wasnt too bad. and i can't see the fires up on the hills anymore either. too damn smoky!
DJ-A 9:49 PM 24 October 2007
Any ideas where everyone that has to evac is going to? i know some people are going to stadiums and stuff... but with the freeways like they are and how many people are out of their homes...
a-swift 10:01 PM 24 October 2007
in my area, El Toro highschool is an evac destination
DJ-A 10:05 PM 24 October 2007
so are most people staying close? how far away is that high school from where the people live who are staying there?

that freeway pic sure looked like people were trying to get out of there and go as far as possible
bandoma 10:10 PM 24 October 2007
the air quality is horrible. today seems to be the worst since the winds are not blowing the smoke away.
DJ-A 10:15 PM 24 October 2007
Quote:

hopefully the wind going down will help the firefighters put it out.

what a stressful job. i wonder how much is them putting it out, and how much is the fire just fading out
a-swift 10:58 PM 24 October 2007
i had a drink last night with my friend amy. she works at the ladera ranch fire station (she's not a firefighter, she works in the office). she said her entire firefighting crew is on the 24 hour plan. for real.

i thought i had it rough! at least i get to sleep.
DJ Sniffles 3:51 AM 25 October 2007
So I was reading the news and it looks like they have 2 suspects in custody who possibly intentionally started a fire that turned into this huge problem
DJ-A 4:42 AM 25 October 2007

hope so... i wonder what would happen to them if convicted...

btw, are fires like this ever caused by natural things? (not matches, gas, people, etc...)
DrStank 5:12 AM 25 October 2007
Yes, lightning starts fires all the time. But this was arson since there were several start points.

I say you should lock the people responsible for this in a room with the families of the people who died and were injured because of the fires.

Just a thought.
DJ Sniffles 5:39 AM 25 October 2007
and them have them butt raped by Lexington Steele?
Dj_KaGeN 8:22 AM 25 October 2007
in Cali - we have high winds called Santa Ana's - that are generally very powerful and have strong gusts that reach in the upwards of 70+ miles an hour.. Can and does overturn big rig trucks on the regular.. Well telephone poles and power lines get downed and a single spark to a very arid region makes excellent ways to start these fires.. The hot winds only help and prolong the agony... not to mention the hills and mountains are a bitch to get at the fires... quakes - fires and hot hot bitches...
Nicky Blunt 10:00 AM 25 October 2007
Ayo im not sure if this is true but in the uk papers this morning they are saying that there's a strong possibility that they were started by terrorists!

Any word on that you guys?
a-swift 2:46 PM 25 October 2007
i'll check with my muslim brothers in the so cal cel.
Nicky Blunt 2:50 PM 25 October 2007
You sarky bastid LOL!!!!!

No really its in the paper today & that the ones in greece were the testers for these!
DJ-A 2:52 PM 25 October 2007
i think they should make some cali versions of the great wall of china... basically a fire barrier so that the fires can only go so far... with how often there are fires there...
a-swift 3:11 PM 25 October 2007
the fires happen every year but they usually get em in check pretty quick
DJ-A 3:36 PM 25 October 2007
imagine though if there were retaining walls in certain places so that they could only go so far. maybe i'm just dreaming, but that could save hundreds if not thousands of homes this time around. imagin how many it would save over the years,
a-swift 4:44 PM 25 October 2007
i checked with my brothers in the so cal cell. they claim they don't start fires. actually i'll quote them. "no man, allah would not approve"

so there you have it.
Dj_KaGeN 4:48 PM 25 October 2007
again, my chic gets the day off... too much smoke coming from a burning canyon getting all up in their HVAC system. lucky ducky. another hot cooked meal for me when I get home... yeah!
CQuence 4:59 PM 25 October 2007
I could really use a day off right about now

its crazy how much closer the waves are to the beaches in cali than they are in hawaii
dirtbag filthy 5:39 PM 25 October 2007
depends on the break but yeah usually hawaii's waves break far outside

thats really close to shore for huntington it usually is breaking further outside...

got a lot more but i need to edit and upload
DJ-A 5:41 PM 25 October 2007
i miss surfing... i grew up in San Jose and havent gone regularly sense i graduated from high school... seems like there are more shark attacks now than there use to be.

ever hear about any in So Cal?
dirtbag filthy 5:45 PM 25 October 2007
nah none since the 70s i think....whitey stays north

they are out there though...we need an attack to clear the lineups down here
DJ-A 6:35 PM 25 October 2007
shit... i had a Zoology class my senior year. for part of it we studied sharks.. saw some insane videos of great whites; one i remember was taken from a video camera they had placed on a surf board facing the back. they had attached a wire to it and ran the wire all the way to shore.

so what you see is looking towards the ocean from this video camera. as the camera begins to get pulled all of a sudden this wierd looking wave comes up in back of the surf board. gets bigger and bigger and then BAM! Jaws came out and the board was distroyed

I drove in from the Bay early yesterday to Anaheim and the sky yesterday was looking like I was in Manila. Hella muggy. This morning was foggy as hell and looked like I was back in Frisco. I'm heading to S. Pasadena tomorrow. That's not the way towards the fires is it?
a-swift 8:22 PM 26 October 2007
no fires in pasadena.
bandoma 8:57 PM 26 October 2007

Sometimes it'll be just gray. Smog from all the buses & jeepney's. They try to do this color coding thing so they can limit the amount of cars out driving but doesn't help. Pick your nose at the end of the day and it'll be black ahaha.
J_Static 3:19 PM 28 October 2007
Bandoma those pics are crazy bro, like the second pic though of chic in the short shorts with a nice tan and a decent ass.

Dirtbag that pic of the wave break is CLEAN bro, miss the waves!

To all those out there in SoCal close to the fires and possibly losing their homes, I'm sorry, major condolences if ya'll lose it all to this B.S.

My team from Genentech (EMT, Fire Fighters, Emergency Response Teams) went down there to assist our remote location and to assist SoCal officials........

To participate in this discussion, we need a few basic details from you.
