Ok I have a "Y" cable and Im trying to hook up my 57sl to my Macbook Pro 13 2011. Unfortunately the 13 inch doesnt have a "Line In" only a headphone jack. Now I tried connecting it to the headphone jack with the RCA's hooked up to the Aux In and Out. Still no correct recording on Audacity. I went to preferences on the mac and audacity and changed it to "Rane TTM57sl Line 1" still no quality recording.
Tried googling it, audacity forums and youtube.
Anyone wanna help a fellow DJ out?
Thanks in advance.

Plug rca's into Aux out ,then plug 1/8" into ur mic input and switch the {mic in} to {line in} in system preferences SOUND. Switch audacity line in and should be good just watch the levels

Why use Audacity? You can record right in Scratch Live with the 57.
But still the new 2011 MBPs have dual headphone out and line in, it's the same port, just you have to change the setting in System Preferences > Sound > Input.

how good is Audacity and does it record and break a file into tracks.

Audacity is alright but you get a better quality result recording straight from the Software. The only way you can have it record and have the tracks break on its own, is if you record using .als (you must have ableton live 8.2.5) and edit your mixtape.
Here's the website for info.

im pretty sure he means CD tracks, not separating the actual audio song by song (like with the bridge). Yes you can track out a mix in audacity. Go to YouTube and find Konix's channel. He has a tutorial. I think his user name is SeratoTutor.

i have friends whose a dj and uses sound forge for mixtapes. He would connect his mixer to his laptop and start his mixtape and also afterwards the software will split the tracks.

Soundforge is "better" as it's a more professional product and has tons more features and options. For simple basic recording though, Audacity does just as well. And it's free. Though I find Soundforge a lot easier (well, faster) for editing and splitting up mixes into tracks. Audacity just feels clunky and cumbersome.
You can split your mixes in Audacity though also, I've made a video on that too... Watchwww.youtube.com

What he said was that you do your recording and after that you just press M key on your keyboard and it will split the tracks for you. i have tried to download version 7 of soundforge for free but i couldn't get hold of it. Pls can somebody send me a link of version 7 and where i can download it for free.

Out of curiosity, because it sounds like your not even attempting this...but do you ever use google? Please don't catch this as being an ass but if you google the name of your sound card and the word "driver" or "download" or "install" 99% of the time it will pop up.
Also with the voice intro, they basically said every way you can make one. Get a mic and record your voice with any DAW (audacity, ableton, logic, fruity loops, etc) or live. If you can't do that then your sort of out of luck unless if you just buy one
