i pretty much use instant doubles when i dj, i dont do anything fancy at the club (its straight forward top 40 house music spot)
this week when i drop the instant double and crossfade from deck a to deck b(channels 1 & 2)... the volume drops significantly! whats going on? do i have to send this in? i will super be upset if i do.. seeing how this is my only mixer.
any mods wanna chime in ?

Hey Henry,
Of the top of my head the first thing I would check is that the Flex FX button is not turned on for the side with low volume and that the Flex FX mix level knob is turned all the way up.
Also, an obvious suggestion but worth mentioning, make sure the eqs, filter knobs, and gains are the same for both pgm 1 and pgm 2.
If your still having issues I would ask if you hear this volume drop in your headphones.
Let me know:)

Does it matter what deck you are instant doubling too or does it always sound quieter regardless of which virtual deck you use?

the few times that its happened its always been when i slid the fader over to channel 2

I'd create a short video showing what your seeing.
I'm having a hard time visualizing not to mention it would be good to see the settings on your mixer and in the software.
Show footage of the DJ FX section as well.
Hopefully that will help shed some light on what is going on.

Hi Henry I have also noticed this problem. I use channel 1 & 4 . I make sure the levels are all the same and I do notice even though its the same song the audio is lower when I switch. I still use this at the venue where I dj at because I know people are too drunk to notice, dont really pay attention to adio levels. Then again the difference is not a big significance but I can tell. Being an AV guy its annoying to be able to tell.
Hope to hear a fallow up on this and see if its a defect or something. I know I got to send my mixer back in again because the loop roll button is broken or stuck ? and ive never used it. I just recently wash told how to use it to do build ups and was like :-o
I would check all the other buttons, post cross fader switches, all the channels to make sure it works with cdj's or turntables.

nope never had this issue with 68
However ther was a bug with autogain in SL a while back that was doing this with instant doubles.
If this happens double check that both tracks in SL have gain at same position and meters report same level in software....id take a bet that its a SL bug and not your mixer.

i know this is low tech, but maybe something (food, plastic, chronic) fell in the slider. try a burst of compressed air in there.

I've had the same problem both with the SL1 and the 68.
Somewhere I've got recordings of my sets where it happened a couple of times. I'm actually very suprised this hasnt been experienced or talked about more because i've had this for a long time and its very hard to pinpoint any reason or trigger.
I've had it at random times and some of th worst times have been right in the middle of a 4 hour set. lol.
What Henry is saying is sometimes when you load a track, the volume dips to pretty much half. Doesnt matter whether the x-fader is open or closed it seems to have nothing to do with gains in the software or hardware.
It's like the overall headroom of the hardware drops, or the only other possibility I can think is some kinda phase cancellation. I hadn't actually clocked that it could be to do with instant double mode, I often switch all kinds of settings on and off while I'm doing a set if I need to fix something on the fly without really noting anything so I'll keep an eye/ear out to see if that could be it.
I don't really know it is very odd and intermittent and non-specific to any particular hardware (which means it could be software related?)
BTW
I use a macbook pro at gigs, always have, and this has happened on a few different computers too
Hope we can capture this little gremlin and chain him to a pair of faulty turntables in a sweaty heaving mega club

Sorry, to clarify: the overall audio drops by half on all channels when the track is loaded onto the other (not playing) deck.
Henry is it only with a double of the same song or has it happened even when any song is loaded? I can't remember because it's not happened for a few months but I will check my recordings

Maybe it's a result of phasing?

Hey Henry that thing just started happening to me too :(
Only on pgm2 (I always use 1 & 2) and 4 for the sampler
the sound be droppin like mad crazy, off course I dont have the flex fx turned down or anything) and I noticed like u that jiggling the fader brings the volume back up. damn! will unscrew the fader platter n see if theres any junk in there tomorrow....
Zach, I didnt mess with any fx internal or onboard at all, kinda hard to video it though as it happens randomly, but quite often actually since tonight

A video would be very helpful here.
If this is, in fact, happening with an SL1 then its not going to be an issue with the Sixty Eight.

well to clarify my case on the 68, it has nothing to do with instant double, it just happen randomly. I'm thinking the upfader being dead

If anything I can switch to playing main decks on 3 and 4 for now until i troubleshoot, so no biggie.

So.. I spoke with Trevor about this and he's not sure what would be causing that.
At this point go ahead and swap faders.
The 1/2 faders are connected to one board and the 3/4 faders are connected to another board.
So.. swap the 1/2 fader board in place with the 3/4 fader board and see if the problem still exists.

Hm.. so it would appear to be an issue with your number 2 fader?
Now that you swapped faders... Do you now experience the issue on channel 3 or 4?
