buying ssl in the neterlands/germany

Martin 4:50 PM - 25 August, 2004
Hi guys, i've been browsing these forums for a couple of days now and find it very interesting. Reading up on SFS too, have led me to think SSL is the better one to choose.

I've been looking for a place in the netherlands to buy SSL I found that it seems not to be available anywhere. I contacted my favorite supplier (www.new-line.nl) with regard to when it will be available but haven't had a reply yet.
Does anybody here know of a place to buy SSL in the netherlands or Germany? I've seen USA sites offering SSL for less than $600, so finding a reseller that offers it for that or less seems fair.

in germany i buy it at www.record-express-ulm.de

I ordered SSL last week from www.thomann.de
After I placed the order I noticed they didn't have it in stock, but I think I'll get it this week - they're usually pretty quick. If you have a VAT (BTW) number they deduct the tax in advance. I think I'm paying 650 euros or something.

I also spoke to Dijkman Muziek here in Amsterdam and they said they could order it from the Dutch distributor - I guess most shops could do that.

BassChamber 10:05 PM - 25 August, 2004

tashafa, 650euros is a pretty decent deal in europe!! Suggested retail price is 850Euros in Germany.
namron 11:09 PM - 25 August, 2004
i paid 730 at record express in germany.. perhaps it became in the last months more expensively ..
nik39 11:34 PM - 25 August, 2004
No, I am not talking about the street price only the suggested retail price, that something different. Still the street price in Europe is substantially higher than in the states.
namron 12:32 AM - 26 August, 2004
jo i know but u didn't say that u talk about the retail price :P
tashafa 3:10 AM - 26 August, 2004
why dont u guys send me 600euros and i'll send u an SSL unit

Send the unit first :)

Where are you located? I'm pretty sure that here in Europe 650 is what you can expect to pay for SSL. Of course it hasn't been available here very long and prices usually drop after a product's been on the market for a while.
nik39 12:56 PM - 26 August, 2004
tashafa, will you declare it as a gift worth less than 25 EUR? Else the receipent will have to pay customs duty and VAT... ;-)

I had allready found it, but the dutch distributer (www.electricsound.com) for Rane does not have it yet. Expected date is summer 2004 and they do not give a price yet. Because I have to wait till the end of september i still have a little patience, but i was just asking around.

Another thing...what causes the considerable difference in retail price in America and Europe? Just taxes and customs or are there other reasons?

Hi,

Recently i received a reply to my question by email about when to expect SSL in the netherlands. This is that reply:

quote:

Beste Martin Boeren,

Door omstandigheden buiten onze wil om is het voor ons helaas onmogelijk nu
een antwoord op uw vraag te geven. Wij kunnen op dit moment niets anders
doen dan afwachten.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Jan Geerts
Electric Sound BV

In English this means the importer can not do any anouncements about SSL due to reasons beyond their control. does any one of the ssl crew have anymore info about this?
AJ 2:16 AM - 22 September, 2004
Hi Martin, I will look into it and get back to you soon.

I got the same reply, so got SSL from the Music Store in Koln. Also Elevator (in Germany) has it in stock but they have a higher price.

Yes, I agree Music Store is a good shop. But I bought the last one they had in stock last week :-) I don't know when they get new supply.

I'll send an email to your hotmail account, I don't use msn. If you live nearby Nijmegen you can have a look at SSL over here. I'm sure you will like it :)

I mailed Dutch importer "TheFutureStore" and got this reply:

We wachten al vanaf begin zomer tot het eerste exemplaar ter test bij ons komt, maar tot nu toe wordt de levering steeds uitgesteld.

In English:

We've been waiting since the beginning of summer for the first demo package, but so far the delivery keeps getting postponed.

I'll probably order at www.thomann.de or musicstoreKoeln.de
pixblume 2:19 PM - 23 September, 2004
In germany i buy it at

djservice.com

It's a good shop with a great support.
nik39 4:34 PM - 23 September, 2004
...with high prices.

that probably isn't the official importer, cause it's not listed on the rane site...
lo-fi 5:16 PM - 23 September, 2004
Ah, thanks. I'm pretty sure I found the link to that store on either the Serato or the Rane dealers list, but now I can't find it... Spooky..

I emailed the Duch importer that's on the Rane site ("electric sound bv") and got this reply:

"Helaas, door omstandigheden buiten ons om is het op dit moment nog niet
mogelijk om dit interessante product in Nederland te distribueren."

In English:
"Due to circumstances beyond our control it is currently not possible for us to distribute this interesting product in the Netherlands."

What's the deal, Serato/Rane?
Are you having difficulty producing enough units to keep up with demand, or are there politics involved? From what I understand, SSL is available in Germany, but even there supplies are limited.
Martin 1:27 PM - 28 September, 2004
any news yet??
bartaug 1:36 PM - 28 September, 2004
I should just order it in Germany, you should have it in a fews days.
Martin 1:44 PM - 28 September, 2004
in a week or 2 i will, and when i do, i will be all over your emailbox!! no serious.. i'm waiting for my laptop to be repaired, it's been away for a couple of days now. hope to have it back by friday next week.
