unable to put in letsmix link in my profile?!

in the profile you have SPECIFIC boxes for various sevrice providers, but they are hard coded to only accept urls form those specific providers?

i have a letsmix account and i had to stuff it in the "bio" box,. cos there wasn't a specific one?

tying yourself like this to specific providers means you have to update this regularly (what's "myspace"?!), why not just have a few link boxes that people can put in whatever link they want?

The reason why we try to keep things uniform is it lets us present that information better. Because we're working with a known quantity, it's much easier to build something that can cater to that, because we know that the icons can only ever take up a certain amount of space.

The reasoning behind giving set website fields is pretty straight forward:
* The services we chose were the most popular at the time. We put these profiles live about a year ago now, and considering this is the first request to add a new service, I think we picked a pretty good selection :)
* If they were freeform, we wouldn't be able to present this information as nicely as we currently do. Each service has a custom icon - which we can only do because we know every possibility.

I'm glad you brought that up - that's definitely on our hit list :P If there's enough demand for a Letsmix account link for profiles (or a different link type, for that matter), I'm sure we can sort something out.

in your previous answer, what are your first 3 paragraphs talking about?!

they don't seem to be relevant to my first post?

icons?? uniform?? presenting information nicely??

i'm just talking about a generic field that someone can put a link in and take curious people to their site/service and how i can't put in a link to letsmix..

there's also soundcloud and mixcloud and probably quite a few others that by being specific you are shutting out..needs to be fixed, but would help if these links actually showed up on your profile anyway!! otherwise what's even the point of putting ANY links in??

oh hang on, i've just sussed out what's going on here..these links are represented by iddy-biddy cute little icons! omg that's wrong..

there's PLENTY of room on that page to list your sites as consecutive lines of text, you don't need to show these links as JUST icons..

Agreed. There is a LOT of blank space on profiles. Seems pointless going to the page

Ah - sorry, I assumed we were talking about this from the very start - I'm glad we're on the same wavelength now.

Well, if you look at Daves profile (serato.com) you can see he has 5 icons there - if we were to show all of those as links, it would just take up an unnecessary amount of space IMO.

I think the use of whitespace is quite tasteful, personally. But of course, if the general consensus is that we're being too minimalist, then by all means let us know - we love hearing constructive criticism :)

there's plenty of space there..they could all be stacked vertically..
