Now, I'm kind of writing this out as I'm coming up with ideas..
Just thought it would be ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC to have some sort of playlist that automatically changes, depending on what is in the 'Key' field of the current playing track.
Maybe a button within SSL that I can press, whatever playlist I am playing from.. This will then only show tracks within the current playlist that can be successfully 'mixed in key' from what is currently playing. This would be GREAT!
(Obviously this would only work if I had a copy of Mixed In Key, and had previously filled in all the 'Key' fields on the id3 tag)
Each new track that I drop onto the next deck will trigger a re-load of all OTHER tracks in the current playlist that can be mixed in key from the last dropped track.
This would bring fantastic new life to playlists, amazing sounding mixing, and a refreshing take on what songs I play next, each time I play.
Would really LOVE to see this as a feature!

I want this feature SO BADLY!
I understand that this sort of feature would never get built into SSL with only a few people backing it. I'm sure the good people at Serato have an absolute tonne of other issues to get through.
But... Does anyone know of any kind of custom scripting that could possibly be done to kind of 'hack' this feature into SSL.. Is this even possible? I assume Serato wouldn't allow this sort of thing?
I'd be willing to pay good $$ for this feature. It would bring so much more energy and fantastic mixing to everyone's sets!

I have worked out a reasonably good solution to this! It's not as intelligent as an automated playlist generator within SSL, but it works very well!
1. Make sure you run all the tracks you DJ with through mixed in key and set it to update the 'comments' field with the key code.
2. In iTunes create a smart playlist with the following rules:
'comments' 'is' '12A'
'comments' 'is' '2A'
'comments' 'is' '1B'
(All keys that can be mixed successfully into 1A)
Make sure you check the Match 'any' of the following rules
3. Name this smart playlist 1A. The smart playlist will now automatically update with all tunes that can successfully be mixed in key with all tracks playing in the key of 1A.
4. Repeat until you have all 24 smart playlist keys set (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B etc.)
This works pretty well for now. Say your mixing a track in the key of 1A, you can scan through this '1A' smart playlist to choose any track you like. These will all mix successfully into the key of 1A.
Issues with this method:
- You must be using iTunes to sort your audio collection. (Although you can also make smart playlists in scratch live. I have never used them).
- You will end up with 24 extra playlists.
- Time consuming to set up!
- Sometimes Mixed In Key will give your song two key results eg. '6A/8A' This smart playlist method will not show those tracks, so I guess you need to work out properly what key those tracks are in yourself and input the key manually.
I just went through my collection and changed all those keys to the first result key 6A for 6A/8A results, 7A for 7A/10B results etc.
Anyway, hope this is useful to somebody. It's working great for me!

This works with smart crates too and you can keep the key in the key field so it's next to the title and bpm.
