For those with a 12inch powerbook

I just got a 12" 1.5 powerbook and after small tasks , like in 10 min, the fan turns on and its pretty loud. The fan stays on until the comp goes to sleep. Is this normal? Im using a Podium pad and I have left i on a table top. Any help is appreciated. The energy settings are on auto btw. thanx!

Be careful and closely watch your PBook. I noticed some coworkers who just got 12in PBooks and some have had their chassis bend slightly - possibly due to over heating. Call Apple Support or use a Mac forum to get better support.

i have the 12" PB...I haven't really noticed the fan usage when using serato(maybe b/c i have the damn music on too loud) but I will check tonite......i know mine always kicks in when I'm playin a game or rippin CD's or DVD's...

def. check out the Apple discussions on the main Apple site...

my fan never turns on unless my powerbook has been turned on for hours at a time, with the lid shut, while running highly intensive apps.

i got an ibreeze for my 12" book. i would highly suggest picking one up, was around $20 including shipping. my book stays cool no matter how long its on. www.dvforge.com

Ok, i found out that when my powerbook runs on just the battery, it runs fine and cool when surfing the net n ect. But when I plug in the powersupply, after like 10 min, the powerbook heats up and fans turn on very loud. Powersupply problem?

Probably it is not running at full speed when on battery, causing less heat that way.

sounds like an energy saver problem. go to your system preferences and open 'energy saver'. i think by default it is set to high cpu when plugged in and low cpu when on battery. you can tweak these settings here.

What i just did to lower the fan noise and overheating (i have a 12'' pb 1.5 ghz) is on power supply mode in preferences, i put processor speed to reduced, and serato works exactly the same as settings on highest, just without the vaccum sound.

hopefully i wont experience any unexpected shut off's anymore. will update tomorrow.

you may have already done this, but Apple is doing a battery recall on those powerbooks, my girl has one, and hers had batery prblems as well. Go to apple.com-support, and look for it on the page.
