They say the squeaky wheel get's the oil...please help me show Rane that if they build it, we will buy it.

easier to implement than new cue point buttons, but i guess no one wants it.

I put some rotary knobs on my Sixty Eight for the filters and it left the area very cramped but it looked cool. I went with function over looks though and switched them back to the proper knobs.

speaking of knobs...would the 68 accept 56/57 style knobs? I miss my old 56.

Would knobs from a 57 or a 56 fit on the 68?

with the closeness of the faders, it seems like the rotarys would have to be pretty small or it would be too cramped.

i called Rane they said there is no way to make a Rotary Kit for the 68 they would have to make re-design to make a rotary version of the 68 and there are No Plans for this to happen i really wish they would there is nothing like mixing with a knob i have a 2016a my self oh well....

Thx DJLouie Jr
I don't see what the big design problem is. Unscrew that panel, put in a similar size channel control with pots instead of sliders. The knobs don;t have to be oversized, just knobs!
I had the rotary option on my djm-800, and I still have it on my djm-3000.

No way, just do one hi, one low. Not like the knob has to be in the middle of the channel right!
They just need to make an add on controller to clutter up my dj booth more that has nothing but knobs for each channel and the filter on it. Something built for a midi add.

I finally looked at the Rane Empath mixer with rotary knobs.
Now tell me again RANE about how the rotaries will not fit on the 68?

The 68 is a fully digital mixer so the faders are not traditional analog slides but instead just control the digital circuit board and they have midi implemented in also (at least that's what i think, haven't actually opened one to see if that's the case...)
So implementing an analog rotary potentiometer would mean a complete re-design and would pretty much defeat the whole purpose of having a fully digital 32-bit floating point signal path in the first place. Empath and all the old school rotary mixers are analog.
However i don't see why you can't have a digital rotary encoder in place of a fader slide so the argument is valid. As for the size problem how does this differ from a djm-800? And who says the rotaries have to be in a linear line, they could be put so that ch 1 & 3 are a little higher than 2 & 4 so that larger knobs would fit.
I for one would definitely like to see a rotary version of the 68. I've played one gig with the rane mp 2016 rotary and it's still hands down the best mixer i have ever used (including the 68 and the djm-900)

I'm pretty sure a module with 4 rotary knobs could be designed to fit.
As folks have said if you offset channel 1&3 from 2&4 you could fit decent sized knobs on them.

It was also said by rane it wasnt going to happen a few weeks ago along with cue button fix (i cant find where they said it but they did) i suppose it could be done if you find digital potentiometers and machine a lid yourself

Now that would be a good mod for someone to get into.

everyone rags on pioneer but it sure seems like they got it right with the dim 800 (effects, rotary option).
i sold my dim 800 when i got the rage 68, but i kept my dim 3000 with the rotary option.
you're telling me that a $2000 mixer 'designed by/for dj's' that has a square with four removable screws can't accommodate 4 rotary pots??
i just bought a bmw M3 with four holes on the trunk and you're telling me i can't put a spoiler wing on it...
i hate to say it but i have been prepping for the move to tractor. i already got the audio 10 & Maschine, just finalizing a few things. i create music, and want to keep creating with technology that integrates with other technology. If I sample music, and my dj platform is my library, I want the sound card available to use with both. I have the 68 & the sl4, and it is WAY too un-easy to play my dj music & use as a sound card. I'll save the weird hook up description for another time.
vci-300mk2...discontinued. great idea, and i love the idea,/concept/size. Too bad it was only around for 2 years. vfx-1...THAT SHIT SUCKS, and I can't understand for the life of me how that thing can sound so horrible. Sometimes it sounds like the effects are being bounced out of an empty coffee can & then rerouted back to the mixer. I wish I was exaggerating.

i'll put my name on any petition regarding an overhaul of the buttons and knobs on the 68. The cue buttons were a mistake, the Dicer is a shining example of what most cuepoint maestros will want.
My cue #1 on the right hand side pretty much stopped working after a very short while, maybe 3 even months.
Secondly the headphone ports are ropey on my 68 to say the least, again the mini jack started going after a few months like it couldn't hold the weight of the headphone cord.
I do love this mixer for the soundcard properties; having the headphone cues is really handy for recording vocals and instruments with 0 latency for example. It does work really well for recording and I would like to stress that from quite a serious recording perspective you can utilise the 68 in so many ways
The fact that I want to hold on to this mixer after investing what I consider a lot of money, I want to know it can last the same way my beloved mpc3000 and sp1200 have.
With regards to Traktor, I've recently been given the new version which instantly linked up with my 68, assigned to all the audio in/outs and worked very nicely. (I have both the Maschine & Audio 10 as well).
I absolutely love Serato & Rane for allowing me to completely rediscover and fall in love with DJing all over again but I have to honestly admit that I feel slightly hard done by as someone who has bought quite a few bits of hardware and for the support to have been very slow in some aspects (like how long it took to get it working steadily in 64bit on both windows & mac).
Anyway the issue here on this page is the rotary knob upgrade which I agree with, but I also feel that the cue buttons and headphone jacks are equally as important.
Much love

having thought about any improvements i#d want from the knobs, i feel the scroll knob that you use to adjust the loops could be worked on from the software/firmware side.
Scrolling faster actually results in the cursor moving slower, and vice versa it goes faster (but not fast enough) when scrolling slowly.
Great if you're alice in wonderland but i think she's more into cheshire cats and LSD than DJing

My only complaint of my 68 is about how the filter on each channel sound, I like how the filter sound on my 62 !!!

You can change the filter resonance on the 68 within the Control Panel in Sound preferences.

I don't see how four decent size rotary fader knobs (similar to those on Bozak CMA-10, Urei 1620 and Rane 2016) could fit into the space available on a Sixty-Eight, unless maybe they were staggered like
.·.·
That would be a weird and unsatisfactory arrangement though....
