So yeah I jumped ship and I am loving it... I am a fiend for new technology and Apple was taking too long to release their next iphone - went an coped an Android phone.
Why didn't you mofo's tell me how good this Android is?
I didn't realize how restrictive iOS was until I tried android. Alot of the features you have to pay for or jailbreak your iphone to get are standard features in android.
My biggest concern when switching the gps software, but google maps works great and its free. Plus I found most of my apps I had with the iphone in the market place.
Got me the Samsung Infuse and it huge - the BIGGEST smartphone thus far!

This is a PSA from a former iphone fanboy to all the other iphone fanboys on board - Android is the sh*t..

I have a love hate relationship with mine...i love how unrestrictive it is but i get TONS more crashes on apps than my iphone, the android marketplace is HORRIBLE, and i hate how not all androids can have the same OS versions, i have a samsung galaxy s phone thorugh tmobile and im like 4 OS updates behind everyone else, which is total BS since they updated the 4G version of this phone with the latest one

Android runs on multiple devices wheres as the i0s runs on the 1 device or a 3 devices - and the older iphones don't support newer versions of the OS - so yeah you are likely to get more crashes. I was thinking that this morning also, I lot more crashes - I had a lot more crashes in week than I had in my 2 years with the iphone lol.
But for me, my crashes are a return from idling crash/return from sleep crash - mostly with tunein radio and skyfire browser - but beside that I am loving the experience.
The galaxy s is a good phone, but the upcoming galaxys II is a beast...
The BEST feature of Android is that it is GOOGLE powered, and those guys keep pushing the innovative hotness..

I've been telling you!!!! lol
I love my HTC Evo. The "crashes" you're talking about are usually from dumbass programmers. I noticed some of the apps don't ever "crash" and some do on the regular. So, I think that's just a programmer's boo boo. For Instance, Words With Friends was always giving me problems. They finally updated it to a version that works without problems. They even said themselves that Droids are harder to program to because there are too many phones that they have to test with. Which... I agree.
Since I've owned my HTC Evo, I've only had about 2 complete auto-starts. Meaning, I was doing something and all of a sudden the phone shut off and turned back on. I consider that an actual crash. lol

Not too bad. Maybe because I have it checked with the Advanced Task Killer. I prefer to check when it's my turn than having it check every 5 minutes to see if the opponent has moved. That kills your battery.

True, but the good Android phones only started appearing on AT&T this year, when their exclusive contract with Apple ended. Plus I was a victim of Apple's marketing brainwashing :)

HTC Thunderbolt = The Fukkin BOMB!!!
Words with Friends kills the battery if you constantly stare at the screen waiting for your friend's move.
The New HTCs recomend NOT installing a Task Killer at all. They shut themselves down after a period of time or simply keep hitting the "back" arrow til the ap shuts down. The Icon pops back up when your apponent makes a move in WORDS.

+1 Yes Sir, I haven't looked back since I rooted my phone.
but rooting your phone isn't a custom rom, thats on the same level as adding an intake and bigger muffler on your car. Sure it may sound like it's fast but it doesnt really make you go any faster.
installing a custom rom is like ripping apart your engine block, rebuilding it with certain power goals in mind, reprogramming the ECU and fine tuning the fuel maps/ valve timing/ to work with all your internal modifications , redesigning the suspension system to handle the new power, ETC.
anyway, what custom roms are all of you guys on?

no doubt I first rooted only so I could wifi tether, but once you get into flashing roms it opens up a bunch of options. I've been running redemption rom on my inc but I'm.thinking of moving to a gingerbread based rom.

Its all about rooting your android phone. Custom roms, wireless tethering, and overclocking = beast phone. I'm using an Epic 4G, Ace rom 2.0, and overclocked at 1.1 processing. Once you have full control of your phone like this on top of removing all the bloatware....Iphones can't compete.

Actually the Epic 4G uses Gorilla glass Watchwww.youtube.com
So I'm not worried about dropping it (which I already have and I don't have a screen protector or cover).
Plus, when you're rooted you can remove all the shit running in the background to increase battery life. If that doesn't help there are also battery mods you can always install. I don't have a problem with battery life at all.
Don't get me wrong, I like Apple products like their macbooks and ipods...It's just I want more control to my phone but Apple won't let you do that.

The Android vs Iphone debate is alot like Serato vs Traktor. Android is like Traktor because it's the newer product gaining ground and it's more customizable.
My main complaint about Android is that there's a new one out every damn month. I got the Incredible last year when it came out thinking I have the hot shit then a month later a better Android comes out. Since then about 50 Androids came out and now my phone is old and dated. While the Iphone 4 that came out around the same time as the Incredible is still current.
I love Android for Google Maps and seamless integration with Google Voice. I dont have a text plan but instead use Google Voice for free texts. Google Maps is better than ANY GPS because it displays traffic and no need for map updates. People are always amazed when I put Google Maps on satellite mode.

Ha, its not a story, its reality. You said your wife has an Evo - go try it right now.. Don't take my word for it..
Not sure what version of Android this voice feature was introduced,I am running Froyo build 2.6.32.9..
Also something I discovered today - true multitasking.
Here is another test for you:
Install this programs on your wife Android : tune-in radio, winamp and go to youtube in the evo's web browser. Start the youtube clip, then go try to start winamp and play tune and then try to play a Tunein radio stream.
Now go to you iphone and start playing youtube, then try running another audio stream say in the ipod player.
Get back to me with the results of the test.

Bezzle, I agree..............BUT.............as you can see from the title and the early posts......it was about a person who finally made a purchase and is thrilled with his purchase and the rest of us share our same thoughts and love for the product or basically the operating system (Android is the O/S)...then here comes someone putting us down for liking this particular product.
I'm not here for a pissin contest, but that is my honest opinion on how this post went from Happy customers liking a particular product into "my shit is better than yours"....same shit different topic...PC vs Mac, SSL vs Traktor...etc

it all boils down to choice, you have the best of both, and you admitted that......you have android and iphone.....and you stated that they both have their ups and downs..........which is aceptable.
If someone, people or fanboys don't wanna hear about a certain product other than the one they love or like.........why click the damn link on the topic?????

1st in the grand sceme of life yes it is a random purchase, 2nd no android is not better, neither is better than the other, both have their ups and downs but one is in no way superior to the other. You may enjoy one more or one may fit YOUR needs better but that dThe oes not make it a superior device
The current hardware and software in my phone does make a superior device. And you call yourself a tech guy..
Please go do some research then come back and post!

half this thread was discussing why androids crash more than iphones, and the battery life drsinign quicker, sorry but a device that sant run the suprior software correctly without crashing is not superior and a phone thats dead in half the time is not superior, also lets say i want to preview beatport music on your android, its a miserable experience if you can even get it to work yet theres an app on iphone for it so right there the iphone is doing something that the android cant. This works both ways so neither is superior to the other, depending on what you think is important in a phone or what you plan on using it for neither is superior

plus how can you say the software for android (im assuming your referring to the android os) is superior when not all phones can even run the same software, i have an android phone and it wont allow me to update past gingerbread, which is def not on par with the latrest iteration of the iphones OS

You don't have to insert anything.
Say the word "comma" or "question mark" etc., and the phone knows what to do.
Funny thing when I'm waiting at the Deli or something and I need to INSERT A COLON :-p
Cool, thanks, just tried it, it work. Took a few attempts to get the word "comma "correct. But it always semi-colon and question mark correct. What is the is word for a "period" ?
Have you tried..."Period"?

Like I told you before, go do your research - there are several Gingerbread based roms for your phone. And I don't use beatport, but I just checked it out - I previewed tracks fine on my phone.
And there is no update past gingerbread so far for phones, honeycomb is only for tablets thus far and icecream sandwich is not officialy out yet.

what didnt i research?? ya theres roms out there but thats the equivilent of jailbreaking the iphoen, i shouldnt have to hack my phone for features, i had to go forum digging and get about 3 special programs just to get my phone up to gingerbread. Also im on beatport now and the previewing is MISERABLE when it decides to work. Also the marketpalce on android is a miserable experience it dosent hold a candle to the apple app store.
Ill repeat what i said earlier, the android is a great phone, so is the iphone both have ups and downs but neither is "superior" to the other.

True, but the good Android phones only started appearing on AT&T this year, when their exclusive contract with Apple ended. Plus I was a victim of Apple's marketing brainwashing :)
Did you have the iPhone 4?
I have had a few friends have issues with their Droids and had me 90% talked into getting the iPhone 5 when it comes out...
What are downsides to the Droid and iPhone?

It's called having a business model. Why provide that latest versions of the Android Os to all phones capable of running it? It will be less incentive for customers to upgrade to the newest phone that comes out - if their old phone can do basically the same thing.
An IT guy not liking to hack/tinker is like a car enthusiast who doesn't like driving stick shift... smh.. haha - I am starting to think you are not who you say you are...
Flashing roms is NOT the equivalent of jailbreaking! Rooting is the more like the equivalent of jailbreak - it allows to run certain software on your phone that is not allowed by default.
There is no equivalent to flash roms on the iphone - because no one has recompiled the iOS software and added new features and software packages and allowed you to put it back on the iphone..
Rooting = jailbreaking
Flashing Rom = Does not exist for the iphone platform yet.
:) Do you get the difference?

What the funk type of phone you have? A flip phone :)
No I didn't have a iphone 4 I had a 3gs. But an had co-workers who allowed me to play with their iphone 4 on a regular basis enough to determine - it wasn't worth the upgrade for me - I was waiting for the next model iphone. Actually - I was dead set on getting the new model iphone this summer to the delay made me try an android. Now I am so NOT interested in the next mode iphone.
The downside to Android is it may have less apps than the Android or the iphone version of the app maybe out before the android version. Also a few product maybe less stable on the android.
Downside of Apple : To be honest - The iphone is a great experience and you can be quite contented with it BUT unless you use another you wont know how restrictive it can be.
Maybe the new version of the iphone has less restrictions - who knows..

The iPhone is a great phone. The problem with it is that Apple tries to over simplify everything and by doing so, they limit what they user can do. Think of a Mac vs a PC. The only difference here is that the Android is a better operating system than Windows ever was.
Right out of the box, the Android is definitely better than the iPhone. Both are great phones and both have plus and minuses, but overall, the Android is a little bit better. Now, you can jailbreak the iPhone to make it better. You can also root the Android to make it even better.

I went from iphone 1, to blackberry (the 9000, then the 9800), and now I'm on Android (nexus s). Why in the hell did I wait so long?
Like people have said, the iphone is fine if you like to live within the 'sandbox' they impose. Blackberry was great for BBM/email, but the battery life sucked, and there was nothing else that was great about it.
Android has been mad awesome. Fully customizable just the way I want it. I've been rooting and hacking since day 1 with this thing, and its been a blast.

I disagree Mallon. The Blackberrys had some of the best battery life. One of the few gripes with my Incredible is the battery life but I've solved that problem by having a charger at work and in my car and having 4 spares (2 in my dj bag, 2 in my car) just in case.

What the hell are you talking about? lmao!!!!!
First of all, you can connect your Android to your mac very easily through Mac's bluetooth exchange. Then, you can share any file either way. You can also connect your mac to your Android using a usb cord and using the app PdaNet then you can connect wireleslly to the internet... free of charge.

does your reboot too?
I had 2 (along with friends that have a couple) HTC incredibles, all have random rebooting issues, My buddy at work bought the Thunderbolt, it reboots on him 3 times a day even after the replacement they gave him, His g/f's thunderbolt, same issue, she returned it for the iPhone. I agree that the Droid is awesome software and more customizable BUT the iPhone still till this day in my opinion beats it in stability, even from day one, i never had an issue with my iPhone (jailbroken of course), I tried the droids and liked them but keep going back to my iPhone for stability reasons, There is nothing really anyone can do with their droid that you can't do with an iPhone, Jailbroken of course :)
and dont say you can do it all on a droid without it being rooted because for me, the first thing I did was root it so I can tether for free, LOL

Nah. You don't need an app at all to connect to your mac. Just use the Mac's bluetooth file exchange.

Apps may be bundled with the computer and its system software
Just use the Mac's bluetooth file exchange.
Macs bluetooth file exchange is an APPLICATION that is "bundled with the computer and its system software"

How well does a Droid work with a Mac?
The answer was given. Or what did the question suggest? Like both The Droid and The Mac getting a job together for minimum wage? lmao

Tango is another good alternative. I just tried oovoo and it said my device is not supported. Tango may be more popular on both androids and iPhones - when I downloaded it a bunch of my iPhone pals already had it installed.

The best thing to do (and not that 10 cents isn't a steal) is sign up for Amazon's market place and they offer a free app every day.

I personally do not like android. It is not as solid as ios. I get crashes, lags, the screen movement isn't as fluid, and other random little things that are not a big deal, but in whole, is an annoyance. Certain apps don't respond or appear the same between the two. I'm sure some people love their android devices and stand behind them, but its not for me. I much prefer ios and will be going back to the iPhone next year. Also, I was in the market for a tablet and considered saving a little coin on an android tablet.... I'm just going to get a..iPad. If the android tablets are like the phones, ill surely be disappointed

You're right about the lag and screen movement for some apps and some devices. You have to hack most Android phones to get them to perform the way they were "supposed" to work. Hopefully one day they'll get it together.

Iphones suck because you have to jailbreak them to get the cool stuff. Androids rock because of custom roms and you can root them.

Deez is right. Unless you have a very fast phone, Droid won't probably run smoothly... kinda like an old iPhone vs a new one. It's kinda like Serato and computers, the more advanced they get, the more the processors have to keep up and well, older phones don't do that very well whether it's an iPhone or an "bottom of the barrel" Droid.

What you should take from the thread is Android is less restrictive than ios.. I played with ios on someone's ipod - its getting better, but i still prefer android.
I read today that Google is working on Majel - the Siri alternative, so that should be sweet..

Lol at android being less restrictive if u hack it and make it perform in a way its not supposed to than an iphone because unless u hack an iphone and make it act differently its to restrictive

the difference is that apple doesn't want you jailbreaking their phones - your warranty is technically voided if you take a jailbroken phone and and they actually tried to get it made illegal - fortunately that failed. With Android, you can do whatever you want to your phone and they don't really care. Of course, all that openess hass drawbacks including tons of malware popping up in the android market every so often...
Personally, I'm on an iphone after being a Nokia guy for years (used to work for them and get a brand new high-end, unlocked phone every couple months) and although I was pissed at the lack of freedom, customization, and forcing the user to use itunes, I definitely appreciate the UI.
I kind of want to give Android a try or even WP7 for my next phone so long as i can get a high end one...
Also, I miss having a keyboard...
