Itch: the red headed step sister

nvisibleman 3:23 AM - 23 April, 2011
I feel like the red headed step sister of Serato Scratch. I want to blend video's with Itch, but there's no plug in. I want to use ableton live to mix with itch, but the bridge isn't out yet. I thought I was getting ahead of the curve with the NS7, but it turns out that Itch is the red headed step sister of Serato, and only comes around as an after thought. Serato, can we get some dope new features of Itch so I can compete with these Scratch DJ's in the clubs and make some money? I mean, honestly....
damehype 3:25 AM - 23 April, 2011
^ Not to be rude, but honestly... do you even know how to use those features yet are or you just wanting features? Be honest with yourself.
Schuyler 3:53 AM - 23 April, 2011
I know you're only naming two features but I honestly don't see a DJ utilizing *both* of these at once for a performance.

I agree with damehype here, don't throw a laundry list at ITCH. Pick the feature that you need and can actually utilize and ask for that.

Do we need another thread devoted to bashing itch? There are plenty of them, go post in that one. This is getting tiring!!!
Schuyler 4:00 AM - 23 April, 2011
nvisibleman: Why don't you just join in the Facebook "tagline" post that Serato started? I'm sure they'd love to see it: www.facebook.com

:D

its "red headed step child"
djcerla 9:11 AM - 23 April, 2011
Cool story bro.
kraal 3:38 PM - 23 April, 2011
seeing that itch came after ssl you might as well figure features will be in ssl first. at the time of purchasing the ns7 it was BEHIND SSL so your though of being ahead was ill concieved from the get go. once you get past that notion you will have a much cleared view of what it is you need. IF you need video tomorrow then itch may not be the best choice. but if you need a portable controller solution for djing itch may very well be what you need.

by the way i compete with scratch dj's in clubs and make money with itch -- so it is possible

I am not sure about the history of this but I actually switched to ITCH for the name Serato, thinking I am moving up the game and using the "industry standard" software, and now I realise Scratch Live is actually the older sibling. Having said that, Scratch Live has had longer to mature I'm assuming? So it obviously makes sense for it to have more features and ITCH will only get better from here on. In my view, the aim is to master what you do currently and then move onto new things, and thats what ITCH is doing. I think its pretty robust compared to my former software Virtual Dj, and that matters more than any feature out there. The last thing I want is my software to crash in the middle of the gig, I wouldn't give monkey about Video and Ableton at that point would I?
nvisibleman 7:30 PM - 24 April, 2011
Not a laundry list, two features. Video sl, and the bridge. I've actually turned down some vj gigs because the software I use, arkaos, makes it impossible to beat match music videos. Also the bridge is actually, for me anyways, a tool to integrate turntables into the ableton live studio environment. Not saying I need them at the same time, but they would be nice to have. Itch and scratch as softwares are not really that materially different. My point is that serato could very easily integrate this into itch, but chooses not to. Just like most old school dj's resisted going from vinyl to cd, from cd to mp3, the dj community is resisting the transition away from cdj controllers to a strictly midi based control system. Serato is pandering to this inevitable change but afraid to leap in because djs aren't ready to make the switch yet. They are treating their itch customers like a second class consumer base.

are you even paying attention to developments before making such statements? Itch is getting the bridge sometime in 2011 announced by serato so to say that they choose not to makes no since what so ever.... itch 2.0 looks an awful lot like SSL and is getting ONE SSL plug in off the bat ....

There sure are a lot of whiney itch users. If you want the features that scratch live has right now, then buy scratch live. Otherwise be patient and let the developers do their job.

Quote:
"Itch can't do video", "Itch can't do the bridge", "Itch can't fondle my balls"...

Go buy a mixer, ssl, and some turntables or be patient and shut the fuck up.
haze324 6:20 PM - 25 April, 2011
actually "shutting the fuck up" does very little in providing feedback to Serato on where their customer base would like from their product. Patience is a very relative term.

There's been a poll for this. Whining is futile.
kraal 7:10 PM - 25 April, 2011
And threads like this do very little constructivly also
haze324 7:17 PM - 25 April, 2011
I agree with you guys --- but saying "shut the fuck up" and allowing it does even less for the Itch community.

I just wanted to revisit this thread and check in with the ITCH community about The Bridge. Anyone warming up to the red headed step sister metaphor yet? LET'S GET IT ITCH DJS 2012!!
haze324 5:07 PM - 8 February, 2012
lol....i love the metaphor ---- but I don't think The Bridge is coming anytime soon. Perhaps some other upgrades/updates.
