Clip hold and meters

ACME 10:10 PM - 26 May, 2005
Please make the red clip led more noticeable - I have to squeeze my eyes to see if it's clipping.
Let's give it a clip-hold feature as well.
And maybe give the whole meter higher resolution on the leds approaching 0db, place next to it a db scale, and make the gain controls less sensitive.
thanks

I am with you.

agreed.

Peak hold sounds like a good idea, clip hold is fairly useless on a digital system as 0dB isn't a clip but it is the maximum volume, so tracks that peak at 0dB might be clipping but then again they might not.
I definatley agree on making the gain control less sensitive, even on really quiet tracks I've never had to go past 1 or 2 O'Clock

three samples at 0db = clipping
less, as you said, is not a clip

3 samples makes sense, unless you're dealing with a perfect square wave, but seeing as I don't think you can actually get a perfect square wave 3 samples should work.

I think that a perfect square wave is probably non existant. Anyway, who plays perfect square waves in his dj-sets? ;-)

3 contiguos samples and you can be sure you had clipping.
It would be nice to know how much it clipped, but I think that SSL should work at higher bit rate to be able to do that (like level meters in Logic)

Peak hold would be usefull as well.

And choice to use RMS and peak meters.

3 samples is maybe a little too less, for example if you have vinyl clicks in your recording. Maybe an intelligent algo' or user definable would be cool.
ACME 9:19 PM - 27 May, 2005
nik39, wait, it's not the same thing.
If your recording as some clipped samples, they will still clip even if the output of SSL is low enough to not trigger the clip hold led.

The clip-hold feature would be usefull ONLY to set the gain of every tune - because, as they are now, the leds are not accurate enough and the levels end up not being perfectly equal.
With the clip-hold, you can notice if the gain was set too high even after having played the whole file.
it would make sense if the clip-hold would be reset every time you load a new track.

+1 on Peak Hold.

I would also like to see Normalization on the wave form rendering.
