Where has the "FORUM" link gone from the serato site?

You used to have a link that said forum in your header bar. Now there is blog??? How do we find forums? I used my tracked posts to find the forums.

Hi LJ_WOOLSEY

Strange, Forum is still there as it's always been. We did make some changes to the navigation to allow for Blog to fit in there, but this shouldn't have changed anything else.

Could you please let us know what browser you're using (version number would be great too) and if you could attach a screenshot to this thread that would be super helpful as well

I've attached a screenshot of what it SHOULD look like (what I see right now)

With regards to your font smoothing looking bad on your laptop, I'm assuming you're using Windows XP - this is a common problem with the font rendering on XP - as you can see, ALL the fonts look bad - to alleviate this, please turn on ClearType - you can find out more here: www.microsoft.com

Unfortunately I don't have any Windows mobile phones here to test with, so I'm unsure whether I can do much in the short term unless I can track one down to do some debugging with, so the best I can do is ask for more screenshots.

Could you please:
- Take a screenshot of the entire page when you first visit serato.com (including the sidebar if it's visible)
- Take a screenshot of the forum page (you can go directly to serato.com/forum in your browser)

This should help, but again, there's a limit on what I can do without having access to a phone like yours to test things myself.

Thanks for your help, let me know if the ClearType solution fixes your laptop font smoothing.

Cheers.

Thanks for letting me know which version of Windows you're using - I would still recommend turning on ClearType, as I think this will fix the font issues you're currently experiencing on your laptop. To pull a quote from the link I posted in my previous post:

Quote:
Windows 7 users should use the built-in ClearType tuner found in the Windows Control Panel under Appearance and Personalization to adjust their ClearType settings

Please try going through this when you have a spare moment and let me know what happens :)

Cheers.

Makes a big difference.

Strange - cause I can't recall having issues with the old headers.

However, I don't see a forum link either. See attached screenshot.

Strange - I am looking at the nav in the exact same browser, on the exact same operating system without any dramas. All I can think of is that the non ClearType text is somehow wider than the ClearTyped text, which makes it wrap instead (making it disappear)

Regardless, I've made a small change that may or may not have fixed the issue - can you check if this fixes the problem Nik ? You'll need to do a hard refresh to test this (Ctrl + R twice in quick succession)

We've changed the way we do the headers - previously, we'd make an image which contained all the nav items, as well as their hover states (known as 'spriting') - this had a couple of drawbacks which meant it wasn't an easy process to change it. Now, the menu is completely text based, and the font is rendered using some pretty awesome future tech, which means it will be easier to update in the future, and hopefully it will be a lot more flexible. Of course, we've evidently run in to a couple of kinks :)

Let me know how things go guys.

Cheers

Eru,

About half the sections now have the forum text missing. This just started happening in the last day or so.

Can you elaborate Justin ? I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.

If you could take some screenshots, that would be most useful.

Cheers.

Here you go. This shows a section where the word forum is not there and you have to use the back button or just go all the way out and come back in the front.

This one shows where the word forum is there and you can just select it to get back.

Ahh yes, I understand now Justin,

This is the side effect of a small change I made the other day while cleaning up some code - an unfortunate "bug", I guess. Support areas will all be effected by this change.

As a workaround, you can actually click the "Back to Forum Index" or "Back To Video-SL General Discussion" links in the Discussion Toolbox to achieve the same result.

And FYI, this thread was initially about the main heading navigation (News, Blog, Products etc.) which is why I was confused by your post :)

Just to elaborate... The text is visible, but it is word wrapped into two lines, that's why I can only see a few pixels from "playlists" and "forum", they are in the second row.

Opps...sorry about stepping on everyone else's topic. My apologies.

Thanks Eru for looking at my issue anyways :)

Are you still having this problem outside of the Off-Topic Discussion Area LJ_Woolsey? Apart from that area - which is obviously under a new design beta, the forum link SHOULD be there. What browser and operating system are you using?
nik39 2:06 AM - 1 April, 2011
Still happening on my Droid browser.

LJ_WOOLSEY, our websites have never officially supported small screen devices like mobile phones.

We plan to make a proper mobile version of the website one day but until then we're concentrating our efforts on the larger base of users that browse from devices with larger screen resolutions.
LJ_WOOLSEY 10:05 AM - 1 April, 2011
Lol that dont make sence when for years your site has worked on mobile phones. When your at a gig and have problems its the phone your going to use. Well its a shame. Not sure what you have gained from this? Look foward to maybe one day it working again.
